- Jason Dornstar got his start shining shoes serendipitously one morning at the Denver International Airport while acting like he was an employee at one of the Executive Shine Stands. After this exhilarating experience and earning a quick 40 dollars, Jason went on to be an Art curator for a local brewery in Denver in his free time. A few years later, Jason was offered a full time position Shining Shoes at Nordstrom in South Denver Colorado. He was searching for references to learn from in the shoe shine community and found Mike Wilson on TH-cam. Mike Wilson was shining shoes with such a classic and authentic approach to the art of the shine. While watching Mike Wilson pop his rags while Mike listened to jazzy funky beats in his office, Jason was inspired to make a shoe shine video of his own. After Jason created a few videos he soon ended up catching the attention of The O.G. Mike Wilson himself. The small but often cheeky rivalry was then born. Jason still considers Mike Wilson as the originator of shoe shine videos on TH-cam and contributes most of his success to the inspiration he recieved from Mike Wilson.
After honing in on his skills as a professional shoe shiner, he was encouraged by his loyal following of subscribers on TH-cam to continue creating these videos. A couple of years later, after traveling to Hong Kong to teach the Art of Shoe Shine to future business owners, he made a name for himself in the Global Shoe Shine Community by trailblazing his way top the top on social media. Jason continues to teach and inspire many new faces in the Shoe Shine Community while serenading the ASMR Community with the subtle sounds of the Shine.

Hi Jason. I've been watching most and if not all of your videos and just recently subscribed to your channel. This is finally a peak interest and a passion for a hobbie. Matter of fact, my wife just bought me a small starter kit for Christmas. Until I get better I need to start small then I'll upgrade. What is the product your using right at the begening? If my shoes were there, they would benefit from it oh so much.
Once a year I would strip my boots down to the leather and re-dye them black and scrape all the old heel and sole dressing off. And start a new base coat of wax. It would take a few days, but dang my boots where so shiny you could see yourself, NO exaggeration. I love my boots to shine.

Jason, you only charge $2.50 a shine? You have to increase that price to atleast $5. Im this vid, you shined a $395 pair of shoes. The customer will pay $5. I think you're worth it.

Unfurtunely in Mexico the shine cost is about .80 Cents of dollar.

I like a nice micro fiber chamois cloth [don't know where you can get em]... I also like the chamois cloths from Angelus. I hope that helps.

May I ask why some show you take the lace out and some don't? Does it have something to do with the type of shoe?
If the tips of the laces are frayed or broken, it makes it darn near impossible to relace them without replacing the laces with new ones. Other times, I'm just either lazy or pressed for time and don't want to spend another 5 minutes on the shoes.

I noticed with some of my shoes that the inside can get dirty as well ( not as bad as outside obviously) but I do give it some attention- also for the smell of some leathers... Just curious do you do that as well

It's a silicone liquid from Angelus Brand. I like to use it on rubber and polyurethane soles. But it call also be used on some leathers as a waterproofing agent. You can find it here... angelusdirect.refr.cc/WJGZ67Q

Legend what type of polishing cloth do you use ?
I use the microfiber cloth (edgeless 365 from *THE RAG COMPANY* ) for buffing, and I get my buffing cloths from shoecaresupplies.com, then I use a nylon stalking sometimes as well.

oxblood or merlot?
Actually, it's an older and slightly lighter colored Merlot AE park Ave. I used the Merlot cream polish by AE, then topped it off with "red/oxblood" wax by Angelus. I think that it gives it a nice ruby finish. Check out the before and after pic on my instagram @dornstarshines
