Hey. Great channel, I have really enjoyed watching all your videos. Especially like the fact that you are shining shoes that are quite awkward to shine. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more videos:)
Not a big fan of pebble-finished leather shoes, very tough to get any shine out of them...( although you did!) I like my shoe finish smooth-n-shiny! How good is that Angelus wax? Is that your favorite go to wax? I just bought a few colors of Lincoln wax, they are really hard waxes, but man-o-man do they shine! Especially the Black, it looked like a Patent Leather parade shoe! Thanks for the vid.
Hello Craig, yes getting a textured finish to shine can get a bit tricky. Super thin coats and the soft brushes are key with these types of tops. The wax is very good, like you said, not as shiny as a Lincoln wax but it goes on like butter and can be worked almost immediately. Thanks again for watching.
+Lone Cactus Leather - Shoe Shine & Care Ok, thank you sir, yes the Lincoln wax is rock-hard and a tad difficult to work with, but boy does it shine! The Black Lincoln wax is super-bright. Although for other colors I am going to take your advice and order a few colors of the Angelus where you say it's creamy and easy to work with. Thanks for responding!
Question for you sir! Is there anyway I can clean and maintain my shoeshine brushes? I recent purchased a set of really big heavy duty professional grade brushes and would like to keep them nice. Any advice on care of these brushes you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Hello Craig, Im glad to know that you're interested in this trade and that you're investing in good quality shoe shine supplies. As with any profession, having quality tools will always show in your work. As to your question on how to clean the brushes, I normally fill a Tupperware container with about 1/2" to 3/4" of hot water and I stir a drop of dawn dish soap. I place my brushes in the container (bristles down) so that only half of length of the bristles are submerged in the water. I usually let them sit for about a minute or two in the soapy water solution before I take them out one by one and then scrub each brush against a dry cloth towel. After you dry them with the towel leave the brushes (bristles down) to air dry. I normally clean all my brushes this way on a daily basis after my last shine. Hope this helps.
+Lone Cactus Leather - Shoe Shine & Care Thank you very much for the reply! That works out well, as I DO have Dawn Dish wash liquid! That makes sense where that stuff is so great at breaking up grease and oil it is only natural that it would work on the brushes. I didn't want to experiment on my own and possibly ruin my new brushes, so I thought I would ask a pro! I am not in business, but just like to take care of my leather goods, and I find it strangely relaxing to polish shoes ( weird huh? ) And just for a hobby since I recently had to retire at 55 due to medical reasons, and I live very close to a Salvation Army Thrift store I go over once a month and buy a couple of pairs of gently-worn shoes and clean, polish and recondition them and donate them to people who are in need of a pair of shoes. You would be surprised at what brands of shoes some people donate! I just figure it is an affordable hobby that just happens to help out people in need, and it gives me something to do! Thank you for the cleaning advice!
Craig Murley warm to hot water but not totally hot water it will damage the brush. also he forgot to say BLUE dawn soap. no other color dawn soap but blue.
