  • The Weather Channel gives forecasts and covers recent weather news around 9am on April 27, 1991. Notice the mention of live reports from the aftermath of a tornado as what would have been a new feature on their network. Also notice the local weather breaks.

    Living through the early 90s as a twenty-something, I never thought those times would inspire such melancholy, especially while watching an old Weather Channel clip.
    Wow, was I wrong.

    Don't mind me... just sipping some tea, enjoying some early 90s Weather Channel, and reminiscing about much, much better days.

    7:28 I still remember those temperature color codes.
    100's = dark red
    90's = red
    80's = red-orange
    70's = orange
    60's = yellow
    50's = grey
    40's = dark blue
    30's = blue
    Those temps color codes made a lot of sense. I dont know why they stopped using them.

      And 20s = light blue, 10's = white, 0's = light pink.

    When The Weather Channel actually did weather.

      Yes, all weather, regardless of the time of day or night, or whether it was on weekdays or on weekends, weather just the same.

    19:54 - yep, those were fluorescent bulbs in 1991. They are not quite as expensive, of course, but it took a ban of incandescent bulbs to do it. I still have the old bulbs for the sake of antique LOL

      Of course, those bulbs later got smaller, and now we have LED lights. :D

    At 20:43, they didn't use that bumber very long.

    The jet stream pattern shown at 6:36, is the kind of pattern I would really like to see. A long wave trough out to the west of Alabama, with a blocking ridge of high pressure on the east coast, keeping the surface cold front from making much eastward progress, and in turn, the nasty much cooler air behind it can't move in, and we don't see pressure gradient winds, and much cooler temperatures, and instead continue to see that kind of weather I want - thunderstorms and severe weather.

    the graphics change part way through, is it spliced together with a different date? The temperatures also change to summertime temps

    Did Mike Bono say "the day after Memorial Day"? I thought that was at the end of MAY, not APRIL. Shoot, I think I also heard him mention June. I think he's a month ahead.
    Another thing I've noticed is that this video has more commercials than actual weather. Was there something with The Weather Channel that kept going to commercial breaks?

      Pretty sure the WS4000 is just wrong and the OP based the title on that. There's also an ad toward the end about "remembering our armed forces" so I'm sure it's May 27.
      I trust Mike Bono more than someone at the cable company who probably programmed the WS4000 wrong :D

    Love the music from the locals on the 8s. Too bad they discontinued it due to copyrights, now they have this annoying generic music they play, it's even worse when they have severe weather imminent...

      I know, I HATE those songs. And it's only the same three songs, so if they weren't annoying enough the first time (which they are), they get old real quick. I miss them playing actual music like The Rippingtons or Brian Hughes.
