I just found your site and have really enjoyed your travels in the local area. I have been in central Florida just over a yr. And bought a house in a 55+ community, in the Leesburg area in March. I just turned 59 and finding it a little different living with people much older. I think that is the difference of buying in a established neighborhood vs a new neighborhood. But definitely love the lifestyle of the 55+ community. Keep up the videos, you’re doing a great job of sharing the local area.
Thanks so much Deide, yeah I agree with you we’re right at an odd age to live in an older community but it is a lot of fun at the same time. Thank you for the kind words and watching!
You are so considerate with your Harley. That's being respectful. I would love to come down some time & check out the Village. People are talking about it all the time.
Hi neighbor! If I hear a loud motorcycle, then I'll know it might be you. Lol. I was 42 when I moved in our villa two years ago. Majority of folks in my neighborhood are much older but our neighbors on both sides are younger couples who also had just moved in when we did in 2021. Some people ask me, 'Aren't you a little young to live in TV?' Maybe I am, maybe I am not, but this is where the opportunity opened for us and I am thankful for that. Hubby and I both still work full time. We appreciate what The Villages has to offer :) Keep up the good work!
Thanks GracejoyTV! This place feels younger and more fun than a lot of places I’ve lived before. It’s a great place to live no matter the age. I think you moving in so young was smart.
I am looking forward to moving to The Villages for those reasons you are talking about. All kind of entertainment to choose from and no screaming children running around all day long. 9 PM quiet time sounds about right for me. Thank you for all the videos you are posting. Every informative ; )
I just came across your channel and am seriously binge watching now... This is all great information. I'm 54 and looking into moving there from Colorado.
Hey Chief! I discovered you channel a few days ago and have now subscribed. I appreciate this video as I am currently 57 and my wife is 52. I also found your 6 month and one year updates very informative. You also do a great job with your videos. Interesting angles and such. We are taking a trip to the Villages at the beginning of May to check it out. All the Lifestyle stays were booked up for the time we are traveling so we are renting a place for a few nights in the Village of Lynnhaven. When I saw your name, I knew you must be a Navy Vet. I was a CTT from 1985-1990. I was fortunate to have great duty stations. Pensacola Corry Station for "A" School, then 2 years in Naples Italy. I extended a year so that I could then go to Edzell Scotland. What a great time I had. Apparently my old stories rubbed off on my kids. My daughter did 5 years as an MA, also in Naples for 3 and GITMO for 18 months. My son is an FCA currently on the USS Carney out of Mayport, currently in the Red Sea taking down Houthi Missiles and Drones. Very proud of him and what they are doing, but I am ready for him to head back home soon. What was your rate out of curiosity? Thanks for the videos! Tracey
Hi Tracey! I’m a retired PRC, my son was also a CTT, small world. I was in from 82-02, NAS Miramar, NAS Glenview, NAS JRB Willow Grove, USS Coral Sea, USS Constellation, Security Forces, and three squadrons: VF-21, VR-51, VR-52. Gotta love the Navy was the best time of my life!
Can’t remember the last time I ran into a PR rate. Pretty important job! We were definitely in the Navy during the “Good Old Times”. Seems a way different experience for my kids. Progress I guess 😂. Thanks for the videos!
I'm 48 and I'm pondering what my next move would be 7-10 years from now. I'm not sure I can handle being around old people all day. But its appealing to live in a community without kids. Also seems like it would be easy to make friends there.
I’m the same age and starting to think about the same thing. I’m excited for the next 7 years and all we’re going to do but I’m also really excited about retiring.
Thanks for the video. I really enjoy the info. I’m 56 and my wife is 48. Considering doing a lifestyle visit. This topic definitely hits one of the subjects we’ve talked about.
Just watched 2 of your videos for the first time. Really cool , I'm going to be 55 soon and I love the thought of moving to 55+ community. I most likely will never be able to afford the villages but I have my eye on a 55+ trailer park community in Murrells Inlet, SC. Lol . Enjoy life🎉
Hi Chief thanks for bringing this up, Everyone is different of course but we are 69 and 74 and wonder are we going to be too old to move to TV, We live in another gated golfing 55 + community here in Florida and the place is so quiet after 8pm, Everyone pretty much settles down and I myself in bed by 9pm, I remember the days I was single used to go out at those times lol however for us we have neighbors middle 80's to early 90's and we just love them. We have seen younger ones moving in recently, I think it all balances out and You are being thoughtful and considerate about the harley noise, That's great. Your suggestion of people in their 50's perhaps renting for a month would be a real eye opener of what the villages is all about, We are not "party people" I'm very active outdoors and we both love nature and enjoy the wildlife. If people want more it's there if not and your a quiet person looking for peace I believe it's there for you., One doesn't have to do things they are not comfortable with.
@Pauline, my husband is 73 and I am 71 and we moved here a year ago and live in the South section, where there is a great mixture of ages!! We have loads of driveway parties and get together at each others homes & Lake Okahumpka Recreation Center. We feel we are living our best lives ever and feel this place is a Fountain of Youth with loads of things to do! In fact our daughters & their families love visiting here (they are just in their early 40’s want to live here now and our grands are so sad when the leave because they love it too-ages 12-18). Age is a relative number and we feel great living here! The only thing is we wished we moved sooner😄😉
@@pennyweldon8587 I'm so happy to hear this Penny and appreciate you taking the time to answer, It is very encouraging, You sound very content there and I'm glad you found a great neighborhood with wonderful people. We shall be there soon for another look around and are planning for next year, I thank you once again for being so kind writing and wish you a happy Easter 😊
I’ll be 59 in October and thinking about moving back to FL, but this confirms for me why I’d prefer Sarasota or Orlando. My parents moved to a similar community in Florida in their 60s and my mother went from being incredibly active to feeling trapped and missed being in an area that wasn’t retirement focused.
@@TheVillagesChief yes, that seems like a beautiful way of life where you can live according to who you are instead of society’s view of your age. The beauty of beach life and that kind of freedom seems perfect.
When I moved here 6 yrs ago I constantly got asked my age. I started to feel uncomfortable and didn't want to use the rec centers until I met a lovely lady in a pool once that encouraged me to join different things. Im still working so I don't do as much as I like but I know I will have PLENTY to do when I retire.
Chief, thanks for the video! I too am 59 and close on my house on Monday. It is located in Newell and like you said, the South end appears to have a younger neighborhood. Regardless, I travel well, so visiting different Villages allows variety!
I'm still too young for the Villages since I'm 36. So I'm sticking to my Sanford/Lake Mary area house for the time being. But I wouldn't mind your handsome self, your super adorable puppy (I'm such a dog person you have no idea) and your two Harley hogs as a neighbor. You strike me as a very nice and decent human being. Plus no girl would complain to have a super hot, eye candy, plus, plus, plus neighbor. I know I wouldn't. Cheers, Jeff. Wish you a great new year. 🥰
Turning 56 in a couple months (wife will be 50 tomorrow) Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer since 2009. Doing the whole contractor thing since then. I am so ready to drop anchor and be done with all of the everyday BS. Kids grown, a few Grandkids, yes. I am just so ready to just live and enjoy life now.
That all makes sense to me. It's far more about lifestyle than age. I remember visiting an aunt in her retirement community when my sister and I were in our 20s and both of us felt like we would have been happy to move in then because there was so much to do there and it was all so close. And that was just a teeny tiny fraction of all the things you can find at The Villages. And we knew the neighbors would be quiet at night. :)
Excellent points Chief. My advice is if you're happy where you are, stay where you are for now. It seems like a good neighborhood, mature trees, close to the hospital and good neighbors. That says a lot. You have fixed up your home so nice. It looks beautiful. Newer homes are not without problems and bonds and taxes are much higher for the same things offered throughout the Villages. And I'm sure many of the 59-60's group are still working so they probably enjoy getting in by 9pm or so as well as up North. Maybe join one group of something that interests you down south and that's a good start to see if there's a different vibe there more in tune to younger seniors. Enjoy!
Excellent post. I have visited The Villages several times since my friend bought her home there in 2012. When my friend first purchased her home, she was the youngest person on her street, now after 11 years she is no longer the youngest on her street. I am 62, and I would move to TV tomorrow, but I am holding out until the end of next year as I will be less than 12 months from being eligible for Medicare then. Unless my employer kicks me to the curb before then LOL. I like the areas north of Lake Sumter Landing because of the shopping & restaurants. It will be interesting to see how Eastport is developed. I will be back in May for a visit...looking forward to seeing all of the changes since my last visit in July, 2021.
Chief- Being new to your channel, I have been catching up and binge watching! I had to laugh when I saw the video title because it hit home since I am also 59(..ish) and I have wondered this very thing each time I come down to visit family in The Villages. The area is beautiful, for sure, with endless things to do outdoors. Music and dancing on the square is always fun too. The place just has great energy and good vibes. A short drive to the coast to spend the day at the beach too. Food for thought for a northerner. Thank you for your insight.
Thanks very much for your opinion on this subject. Especially the difference in ‘vibe’ from the north to the south. I’m pretty much dragging my wife down for the initial lifestyle visit in early June. We’re both 60 and active. In the back of my mind I also think we may be too young for this at the moment. I’m justifying the trip to her by saying ‘it will help us plan for the future’. Hopefully we’ll both be pleasantly surprised or better yet, blown away by how nice I’ve heard it is We’ll soon see. I just liked and subscribed. Thanks again.
Good questions and very responsive and insightful answers! We moved here here a year ago and are in our early 70’s and feel young and are very active in TV! You can be as busy as you want or you can sit at home, it is all up to you. As for us, we are living our best lives ever and are thrilled to live south of Brownwood. We have lots of different ages and some are Frogs (live here until we croak), snowflakes (they go & come) or snowbirds (live here for 6 months & return home). We are sad we didn’t move here sooner. Our families love it here too and want to live here now & our grands are sad to go back home because they love it here too. They tell us, We get it!, why y’all moved here😄😉
We bought down here 1.5 years ago and I’m only 52 and my wife is a little older. We are also in the north end, near Savannah center. Got back into softball and loving it.
It seems like more folks in their 50’s who are still working are moving to TV ! I just turned 60 and can’t wait to get down there 🙏the active lifestyle , the weather , the cleanliness, friendly neighbors , element of safety and the beaches are what I’m looking for !
i think it’s great if you can live in a community like this . i just know at 54 i have no desire to live in a retirement community . i think for everyone it’s just a personal choice . i think it’s a neat idea it’s just not for me . we are getting ready to buy our forever home on a lake in the south . i’m excited . even thou these communities shut down early some of them continue their parties to their homes and gather their .
51 here came down for my first visit Saturday-Monday. The constant refain i hear is "I wish I did it sooner" As for nightlife. I stayed in the North. I found the party place in the woods near the power station. Absolutely hilarious that a place like that exists.
Im I’m 48. My husband and I love Holland America cruise because there are older people. They are interesting and funny. And they aren’t trying to get Instagram shots every 12 seconds!
Thanks for this content! ...I am coming to check out the Villages later this month on a lifestyle visit and I am just 54. Can't wait to check it out...Looks beautiful.
Very respectful re: the Harley. I have a neighbor who cranked his up every morning when I first moved here & woke me up. Not fun. Also you're right about having so much to do along with finding your peer group age-wise. Have fun
Had no idea that you were 59. Wow. You are so fit and clearly take care of yourself. Those all nighters are not for me. Happy to hear that those pushing 60 are still having fun, especially for those singles amongst us. I am not quite 60, but almost. Childless, but have an 80 year old mother that I am still keeping an eye on. 😂😂 Many thanks, Chief, for these videos as I am still over in London but am making my way back to the sun soon.
Don’t forget the circle of life. Soon your neighbors will likely be in their mid 50s to early 60s. If you like where you live, stay there. I personally wouldn’t be interested in the southern part of The Villages because of the lots. I’m guessing you get more bang for your buck up north. I’d choose Dunedin and north from there. I have my choice subdivisions, but they are all nice. It’s just about lot size for me.
We visited some friends a few weeks ago (they moved in about 1 1/2 years ago) who live in the northern end of the Villages and they are in their early 60s. A couple in their 50s moved nearby not long ago and then another couple in their 50s as well moved close to them. It looks like some of the elderly are moving into assisted living or with family or some are sadly passing away so there seems to be a shift in the age bracket.
Good morning Chief ! We left The Villages two days ago , after wintering there for the past three years. We were in the northern most village, loved the house, neighborhood and most of our neighbors. We left because we’ve discovered our sit. is unlike most … two guys in their late 60s. Our leaving wasn’t to do with the folks around us as we live quietly and discreetly. However, we won’t be returning. Our primary reason for leaving is that the area is too crowded, and it’s becoming so jammed the infrastructures can’t keep pace with the growth. Eventually we will find the place that works for us . Anyway , hope you keep up the good work on your yard projects and Grindly continues to thrive. Good luck
Hi George thanks for sharing. The growth here is unbelievable for sure, I think we’ll be able to ride our golf carts all the way to Disney soon haha!! I often said I’ll probably move back out west someday or who knows with me, I love experiencing different places so ya never know, for now it works for me as it did for you guys but it’s a great life when we can pick where we live in this great country for those of us who are blessed with that ability to do so. Thanks for watching!
@@noreenn6976 Florida is a popular destination for sure, Lots of neighborhoods going up all over, Hope you find what you are looking for Noreen, Check the area out well.
I moved there at 49. I had to move away for my parents but I am planning on moving back in the next month and I’m only 51. I loved living in The Villages. I work remotely also so living there worked for me. 😊
Good video Chief! My wife and I close on our house Tuesday in Lake Denham. I hope to meet you (and Gridley) sometime. I am a retired Navy Ops LDO. I am still working too (GS-15 with The U.S. Coast Guard). I owe you lunch for all of the great information you have provided to us in preparation for moving here. 😊🇺🇸 10:57
Welcome aboard and congrats on the house! Thanks for the kind words we’ll get together sometime, I do some work for the USCG my self on the contractor side.
Thanks for all this info. Seriously considering the villages so I'm looking at as much info as possible. Next birthday is 55 so about to qualify. 🎉. The Villages seem to tick all my boxes. PS saw another video that said you lived in Williamsburg. That's where I am! Howdy from The 'Burg 😎
Oh how cool, I loved living in Williamsburg :) thanks so much for watching, and by the way you don’t have to be 55 to move here, if you’re ready I would check it out, I thought it was 55+ too but I don’t think that’s the rule.
I live between Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter they are my favorite town squares, it takes me 45 minutes to Brownwood Square by golf cart witch I love to do. I moved here in June 2021 since I’ve been here I have only put 125 miles on my car mostly go to the DMV, tax collector and a few times to the VA but now take my golf cart only. I’ve only burnt about 11 gallons of gas in 10 months.
We are 59 and will move there as soon as our youngest graduates. I'm wondering if the Spanish Springs area may start to see younger residents moving in within the next few years. It's a beautiful area.
I'm in the 59 to 60 age group, early retiring Union man but I'd rather do the snowbird lifestyle by myself. Summer Seasonal Maine beaches and Winters in Florida. I'm done w/the New England Winters. Hate it. Did my time. I'm looking though around the outskirts of Sarasota. 20 minutes from The Gulf and Siesta Key. Not driving or pulling an RV. Get a couple of nice Park Models. Great Channel, just found. Subscribed !!
Excellent suggestion if someone can rent a home for 2 to 4 weeks or longer, especially in the summer if one is considering being a full-time resident. Central Florida is consistently hot and humid from the end of May through mid-September.
I rented a courtyard villa for 2 weeks in July, 2021. It backed up to a golf course. The golfers would be out on the course until 8:30 pm. I saw more than one golfer going into the small pond in back of the courtyard villa looking for a golf ball. Don't know if that was wise or not...
Great gouge Chief! Wife and I nearing the 60 yr old mark in a few years. Will need to make a life style visit within next 18 months. Would enjoy sharing sea stories with you. Keep up the hard charge with your informative videos!
Living among like minded people can be a blessing or a curse. Either way, with your personality and discipline vibes you will excel at being a good neighbor..💯💯👍👍
I think people worry too much about living near people in their age range. I know people in their 70's that can out party 50 year old people. A mix of age groups is not a bad thing. I understand older people don't want to be around a lot of kids. I feel that way, I'm 67. Just my thoughts, I'd like to retire to a place that's fun and community oriented. Not too worried about exact age compatibility. Good videos thanks
My end time has been 9pm for years for being out. I've been an early riser since I started having kids. Now kids are grown but still gotta get up for the pets. I don't think 57, 58, 59 is too young. You sound like you are having 2nd thoughts but I think maybe look around at other neighborhoods. You will make$$$$$ on your house bc it looks beautiful. I drive around about 1x a month at open houses and see how far everything is ....love Brownwood but hope eastport will be nice since newer homes will be nearer to that. Sawgrass is blah.
Hello Jeff! This video comes at a good time because I am also wondering the same thing. My circumstances are very similar to yours. Prior military...go Air Force! I'm planning a lifestyle visit in May. I'm currently in North Florida but planning a move soon. I need to sell my house. Might be a good idea to rent as you suggested. Paying a bond down south rubs me the wrong way also. Keep posting the cool videos. Don't know how you filmed the one on the Harley.
Thanks so much Elaine. I filmed the Harley video mostly using my Insta360 camera, that thing is cool, and also some regular GoPro in there too. Thanks for your service too! Come on down!
Hi Chief. Being the same age, single and researching the Villages, I appreciate your honest, insightful videos. I was given an opportunity to house sit in Fenney for the entire summer so I'll be down for the first time in a month. I will also be working from my temp home. Keep up the fine work. Have you thought about a video on being single and dating in the Villages. You are the new source for people in our situation. Take care.
If I am the new source for single people in the villages, then we’re in very bad shape! I’m currently not dating, and not really interested in dating, and I’m not familiar with the dating scene here in the villages at all other than what I’ve heard on other channels and stuff like that. I haven’t even joined a club or taken advantage of the activities here other than watching the bands on the squares and exercising. I’m working full time from home and been focused on that other personal stuff at the moment. Maybe in the future I’ll talk about my views on it once I know the area better and meet people but right now I don’t think I’m knowledgeable enough to cover that subject here in the villages. I really appreciate your comments tho, your very kind!
We are not retired yet but work remotely. Very interested in The Villages but wondered the same thing. We think we would love it, but seems hard to leave kids & grandkids up north.
Chief, I bought a designer in Glenbrook, five years ago and had the same feelings you are going though ..Time goes by so fast in T.V... Buy a nice convertible, and just drive to Bridgeport in a few minutes.. Seems the single ladies, don't care if you live in the northern area(a little distance might be a good thing), as long as you are a put together villager... Subbed, and always a thumbs up....
I am 62 living in Minnesota and my husband is 52 living in The Villages (he works from home as well). I will retire next year. I can’t get him home; he is so happy in The Villages. He is active in softball and airplanes. We live in Alhambra on Botello.
I love Spanish Springs area and are looking to buy there some day. Remember, older folks moving out for different reasons will bring in younger people eventually
Hello : I''m in my 50's too...single, living up north and still working full time. Did you know anyone before moving to the Villages ? It appeared that you moved from VA...how do you still stay in contact with your family, old military buddies, old co workers etc ? Can you also talk about younger retirees in good health getting a side job (part time job) to stay busy and help with expenses.
Great comment Jimmy. I have some old military friends in the surrounding area and scattered around the country, some down here in FL, as I’m getting settled I’ll be meeting up with them more for motorcycle rides things like that. I have a friend of a family that lives down here but don’t know anyone else personally in the villages. I’ll do a video on working from home in the villages that’s a great idea! As far as family goes I’ll be doing a video in the future about my personal life but not ready for that, maybe once the channel is a little bigger and I’m more comfortable in front of the camera. Thanks for watching and the great suggestion. I like the work from idea for a video!
Great videos u make. What does your family think of u living in the villages? Do u have any kids and do they ever visit u and are able to have access to the amenities?
Most of my family is deceased, anyone else is used to me moving around since I was in the military for 20 years and are happy that I live in such a nice area, my son and and granddaughter can use the amenities when they visit with a guest pass that is easy to get, kids tho can’t use adult pools of course but can use the family pools.
This is a great topic Chief. It probably feels like you’re the neighborhood kid with neighbors in their 80’s and 90’s. I’ve thought about that too. However, life being life everything will eventually change in the older sections because as folks pass on over the next five to ten years, very likely younger folks will move in and things will gradually change. Now I don’t live in the Villages (yet) but, it just seems like that would be the obvious outcome over time. Personally, I kinda like having folks around me that are my parents age, but that’s just me 😊
I’ve stayed at The Villages on three separate occasions and love it. However, I’m 58 and the vast majority of folks there are 70 plus. I just passed up a transfer to that area, I’m going to wait a tad longer.
Depending on your mindset, someone 55-65 could enjoy living in tv. It is definitely geared toward the geriatric crowd. One thing you'll find is many business do not survive here. There are a LOT of empty office, medical and retail space for rent. And be assured, the place shuts down after dark.
So you and Robyn are the same age as me! I love the northern area of The Villages. I'm super interested in buying up there. Its starting to turn over. I have a neighbor here on my little street that's in her 80s. My cousin bought between the 6's. He's under 55, working full time in south Florida. He's got a good group called the South of 60s just for younger Villagers. I guess by the time I get there, I'll be too old for his club. 😂
I'm Canadian and no, I'm not interested in the Village. When I went to Florida last, coming from the mountains and ocean side of the west coast of Canada the first freak out was how flat Florida was. Ya, not my cup of tea. I don't want to live in party central. I'm a sailor, so this doesn't appeal to me long term. But hell, I could totally party there for a week or two.
When I moved to Florida it was throwing a dart with a blind fold on. Port Charlotte near Boca Grand turned into this blog. The first 3 months I saw how old and decrepid my neighbors were. All of the places closed down at 8 or 9pm. I had to stay for 2 years before selling. So how did I do living where everyone was old? A lot of dating apps.!
Another 2 questions : What is a lifestyle visit ? and does the Villages have condos for rent or sale , or is everything single family homes and villas ?
Hi Jimmy a lifestyle visit is when you come to the villages and stay in one of their properties and you get a golf cart to use while you’re here and you get to experience what it’s like to live in the villages for a couple days. You can learn about that at thevillages.com and click on visit in the menu. As far as the different types of properties, they are mostly houses or smaller villas, which are still single-family homes, and I think there are just a few older townhouses, condos, but I would recommend talking to a realtor like Robyn Cavallaro, who is really knowledgeable about that kind of stuff, on TH-cam @Robyncavallaro . But in general it’s mostly all single family homes as far as I’ve seen.
Does the population ebb and flow throughout the year, or does it stay pretty steady? It seems like many people living up north may commute to The Villages during the winter months. Just curious...
Huge difference. Jan-Apr the population feels like it doubles when the “snowbirds” are in town, now it feels like a ghost town, we’ll maybe not a ghost town but much less people. Thanks for watching Zane.
The North neighborhoods are having significant turnover as folks move on. On our culdesac, there are 4 younger families who have moved in. We've been here nearly a year.
A lifestyle visit is coordinated through the villages through thevillages.com, they put you up in a nice house for a reasonable fee in the villages and provide a golf cart and a bicycle and it’s just a nice way to experience what it’s like living in the villages. During your stay, the villages realtors will show you new homes. Thanks for watching!
Yea I’m debating that right now, I’ll give it a year or two before I know for sure, but I could live here happily into retirement for sure if it ends up that way. But I’m not 100% committed to staying here just yet.
I've lived in communities for older people. Both on the younger side and as one of the older ones. I do not like it at all. Those communities carry a sadness behind all the made up activities. I lost neighbors and friends right and left. I thrive much better in a neighborhood with all ages of friends, including a lot of kids. It's uplifting and gives me a greater sense of hope and well being. I really think it's far healthier.
Hi Chief, have you said your name, I don't recall from other videos. But I do recall you said you're living alone, so for me that's the question - is it odd being single in the villages at a relatively young age when it seems that the vast majority are couples. I've been looking at the villages for a couple of years and I like what I see, despite the crowd, although it's much less crowded in summer. So for me it's about being single in the villages vs. whether I'm too young.
Hi Timothy, my name is Jeff, and I plan on doing a video in the future about my personal life I’m just not comfortable talking about it on camera yet, and maybe one on the single life I’m just not that knowledgeable on the subject but it is an interesting topic down here. I think if you live down here single I would recommend venturing out beyond just the villages, but ya never know, I just don’t know enough about that lifestyle here yet.
@@TheVillagesChief Jeff, thanks for your reply. Personal stuff can be a bit daunting to talk about on an open forum like this, but I do believe we are living in a much more open, and inclusive society - so whatever info you're going to discuss, just know that most people are kind, understanding, and accepting - and for those who aren't, they're easy to ignore! Maybe you'll say you and I play for the same team, but if not, I'll still watch and enjoy :)
@@tpward thanks Tim but it’s nothing like that, it’s more about sharing some of the trauma and loss in my life that is difficult to talk about. Appreciate your kinds words.
I thought you looked a little young for the Villages. We’re also 58 and looking at retirement next year. The thing that really freaked me out was seeing all the old people in the clubhouse playing bunko. I thought “yikes”…thats definitely not where we’re at yet. We’re still traveling, riding road bikes and living a more active lifestyle than a lot of sedentary 40-year olds. We just don’t want to be surrounded by young families and little kids anymore.
Yeah it’s a little different but I am seeing a lot of active types in our age group, just depends were you hangout and what activities you like. For example I’m thing of taking up pickleball because it seems like a fun sport with a lot of folks our age into it, looks like a good workout too. You typically see the much older traditional activities inside the rec centers, and I do see a lot of older folks on the squares dancing but I like seeing that, it’s inspiring to see that there are many fun years ahead. And honestly my neighbors are much older, but their the best neighbors I ever had.
@@TheVillagesChief The restaurant is called Harry and the Natives. Its a Tiki Hut Margartiaville style place with a massive bar and great food. Live country music every night
No I haven’t I just came down on a whim and this is the first and only place I looked at. But now that I’m here I can take my time and get to know Florida. Thanks for watching!
I'm not moving to the villages because my 5 children are grown and I need a gated community without a lot of younger people. I'm 50 and wife 55 and we KNOW what happens with children. I'm ex navy but retired Army SF medic. I have done many, many rambo stuff but my wars are over, and I do not plan going to a open community with high crime rates. I heard from many people there's a crime rate going up in the villages because it's not gated because of public roads.
According to the FBI, Florida state crime reports, USA.com, and Best Places, The Villages is the safest place to live in Florida. I'm new here so I could be wrong but it sure seems pretty safe and quiet to me.
We. Live in sun city when someone farts and it does not smell we send them to the villages also the people who THINK they are smarter than they really are we send them to the village

Thanks for the perspective on areas by age.
You bet!
I really like the mature landscaping & the larger lots of the North section. I also like the way Gridley lets you know "it's time Dad!"
Yeah Gridley is an excellent communicator 😂😂😂
You are so considerate with your Harley. That's being respectful. I would love to come down some time & check out the Village. People are talking about it all the time.
Come on down Alice!
@@TheVillagesChief Thanks. And yeah, I'm too busy enjoying the lifestyle (and work, lol) to think about if I'm too young to live here.
Smart! I love your positive attitude!
I am looking forward to moving to The Villages for those reasons you are talking about. All kind of entertainment to choose from and no screaming children running around all day long. 9 PM quiet time sounds about right for me. Thank you for all the videos you are posting. Every informative ; )
Thanks Aneta!
4 to 9?!!! That is right in my wheel well for a time slot! I am up at 5AM doing my thing so I go to bed early.
Yup, bands kick in early around here :)
I just came across your channel and am seriously binge watching now... This is all great information. I'm 54 and looking into moving there from Colorado.
Thanks for the kind words! Maybe you could live your best life here? I love Colorado, but this weather is addicting. Thanks so much for watching!
Old is a mindset. Come do a lifestyle visit Dave!
I'll be there and we are the same age!
I’m the same age and starting to think about the same thing. I’m excited for the next 7 years and all we’re going to do but I’m also really excited about retiring.
@@TheVillagesChief what’s a lifestyle visit
Can totally relate to this.
Thanks for the video. I really enjoy the info. I’m 56 and my wife is 48. Considering doing a lifestyle visit. This topic definitely hits one of the subjects we’ve talked about.
Awesome thanks Thomas!
Just watched 2 of your videos for the first time. Really cool , I'm going to be 55 soon and I love the thought of moving to 55+ community. I most likely will never be able to afford the villages but I have my eye on a 55+ trailer park community in Murrells Inlet, SC. Lol . Enjoy life🎉
Thanks for sharing Jean!
Well said Pauline! Thanks so much!
I can understand that I would totally love to live in Sarasota near the beach, especially
Exactly it’s kind of how I feel, you don’t have to do any of it but when you want it’s there for the taking. Thanks for watching!
Chief, thanks for the video! I too am 59 and close on my house on Monday. It is located in Newell and like you said, the South end appears to have a younger neighborhood. Regardless, I travel well, so visiting different Villages allows variety!
Very cool! Congrats on the new house, newel looks great how exciting!! Thanks for watching :)
I would love to live in a place like The Villages and living in Florida would be amazing. I'm tired of the South Dakota winters
Thanks for watching Stacy!
Wow, I would never in a million years guessed you’re almost 60. I don’t know what you’re doing to take of yourself but it’s working! Good for you. 🖤

I’m with ya brother Chief!
Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy!
Thanks Pietrina!
@tonymoceri9002 sorry I missed your live chat brother! Thanks for watching!
I might the youngest home owner in the Villages. I own a house in the De Luna. Moving full time soon. I’m in my mid 40s
Always insightful Laura thanks!
Thanks so much Diane!
I think you guys will love it, thanks for watching!
They tell us, We get it!, why y’all moved here😄😉
That’s awesome thanks for sharing!!

Yes, he’s very considerate to think about his neighbors. Many people don’t and it’s miserable.
Wow thank you so much Kelly!
I do have a big yard for sure and a deep driveway, good points Cynthia!
This was super helpful. Thank you!
Awesome, glad I could help :)
The Harley shouldn’t bother them at 8-9am they’ve been up since 7. Just be home before 4 lol
Haha Mark!
Yeah I see that trend happening for sure, thanks for sharing 😊
Excellent suggestion if someone can rent a home for 2 to 4 weeks or longer, especially in the summer if one is considering being a full-time resident. Central Florida is consistently hot and humid from the end of May through mid-September.
Thanks Laura!
I rented a courtyard villa for 2 weeks in July, 2021. It backed up to a golf course. The golfers would be out on the course until 8:30 pm. I saw more than one golfer going into the small pond in back of the courtyard villa looking for a golf ball. Don't know if that was wise or not...

Thanks Timmer!

I love Spanish Springs area and are looking to buy there some day. Remember, older folks moving out for different reasons will bring in younger people eventually
For sure Lucky One, over time this will be the new young part of the villages!
Your making great sense and very informative!!keep it up!!! Why would you have wanted to scope it out longer?
Thanks Noah! Only because it’s so big and each area is a little different.
Personally, I kinda like having folks around me that are my parents age, but that’s just me 😊
Thanks Becky! Yeah my neighbors are great and I get the best stories!
@@TheVillagesChief I’ve always believed that we can all learn a lot from those that are older. 😊
I have the same age concern. I'm renting for a while to figure it out.
Smart decision Noreen, it’s the best way, scope it out for awhile.
@@TheVillagesChief thanks Chief! If I see you around town I'll stop and say hello.
I’ve stayed at The Villages on three separate occasions and love it. However, I’m 58 and the vast majority of folks there are 70 plus. I just passed up a transfer to that area, I’m going to wait a tad longer.
Thanks for sharing Jorgie
@@TheVillagesChief my pleasure 😊👍
Depending on your mindset, someone 55-65 could enjoy living in tv. It is definitely geared toward the geriatric crowd. One thing you'll find is many business do not survive here. There are a LOT of empty office, medical and retail space for rent. And be assured, the place shuts down after dark.
Thanks for watching!
Ahhhh so close, I’ll start a club “under 61” and we’ll just bump it up every year 😂 thanks for sharing!
There must be some singles clubs of younger villagers, right?
I'm Canadian and no, I'm not interested in the Village. When I went to Florida last, coming from the mountains and ocean side of the west coast of Canada the first freak out was how flat Florida was. Ya, not my cup of tea. I don't want to live in party central. I'm a sailor, so this doesn't appeal to me long term. But hell, I could totally party there for a week or two.
I totally understand, I haven’t decided if I’m gonna stay here long-term yet or not
@@TheVillagesChief A break is as good as a rest. Pretty sure you'll move on :-) just my 2 cents.
Wanna go sailing? jk
Thanks for watching
That’s awesome, it’s a great place to live, good to see younger folks moving in!
They probably want to hear that Harley go out or come in at night . Reminds them of being young and full of life.
Yeah I get a lot of positive comments from the neighbors
Great video.. what is a lifestyle visit?
A lifestyle visit is coordinated through the villages through thevillages.com, they put you up in a nice house for a reasonable fee in the villages and provide a golf cart and a bicycle and it’s just a nice way to experience what it’s like living in the villages. During your stay, the villages realtors will show you new homes. Thanks for watching!
@@TheVillagesChief Oh wow, that’s so great!
Bring your Harley to City Fire Sumter for the Vets gathering at 2-4 tomorrow!
I’m still working brother, I don’t get off til 430
@@TheVillagesChief then I’ll see you at 5.
Wow! You got this video up fast!...Do you think you'd stay in the villages long-term, even if it means moving neighborhoods?
Yea I’m debating that right now, I’ll give it a year or two before I know for sure, but I could live here happily into retirement for sure if it ends up that way. But I’m not 100% committed to staying here just yet.
I've lived in communities for older people. Both on the younger side and as one of the older ones. I do not like it at all. Those communities carry a sadness behind all the made up activities. I lost neighbors and friends right and left. I thrive much better in a neighborhood with all ages of friends, including a lot of kids. It's uplifting and gives me a greater sense of hope and well being. I really think it's far healthier.
I can appreciate what your saying, thanks for sharing Cynthia!
@@TheVillagesChieflove your positive energy. You’re such a sweet soul.
Im building a new restaurant in the Villages. Ive heard much about the Villages. Should be interesting
Nice Tom, what’s your new place called and where? Can ya share any details? Thanks for watching!
@@TheVillagesChief The restaurant is called Harry and the Natives. Its a Tiki Hut Margartiaville style place with a massive bar and great food. Live country music every night
I need to plan a lifestyle visit.
I forgot to ask .. . Are there restrictions on certain breeds of dogs?
Come on down!
No restrictions on dog breeds that I know of
@@TheVillagesChief I’m interested in Spring 2024 sometime. Possibly a rental.
Did you consider other communities in FL? If so, which ones?
No I haven’t I just came down on a whim and this is the first and only place I looked at. But now that I’m here I can take my time and get to know Florida. Thanks for watching!
@@TheVillagesChief I love FL, lots to explore.
Whose idea is it to stop the music at 9pm?
What about 5pm to 10 pm?
Good question, I have no idea
I'd rather live by the older group w/my Harley then the minivan group snobs.. lol
haha thanks for watching J Biz
Looking good for 60.😉
What are the property taxes and home insurance rates like there?
Hi Agim, I’ll be doing a video on that soon, what it costs to live here, I don’t know off the top of my head
Is it true that golf course are free ?? If you live there permanently
The executive golf courses are free for residents if they walk it, I think it’s a few bucks if you use a golf cart.
By the time your peers get to the Villages, you will be the mayor.
😂😂😂
We. Live in sun city when someone farts and it does not smell we send them to the villages also the people who THINK they are smarter than they really are we send them to the village
