    An excellent review of the Vitomatic II - Mine is a Vitomatic IIa. I wear eyeglasses, so my favorite feature is the 1:1 viewfinder magnification. Unlike many other compact 35mm fixed-lens rangefinder cameras, there is no need to squint while using the viewfinder. In fact, the photographer can compose the subject with both eyes open, if he or she chooses to.

      Hi again Andrew. I'm a big fan of the Vitomatic range.
      I recently put a B&W film through mine and was very pleased with the results. Lovely and sharp with really nice tonal range and the metering was excellent. 📷

    Thank you so much for this video! I inherited a Voigtlander, and am trying to get it in working order; I am new to photography, so thank you so much for breaking down the features and how to use them- very informative and accessible!

    I just got the Vitomatic II a with the f 2.8 lens. Thank you for teaching me how to use it. I thought I was broken but you said that it needs film for the shutter to work

    I have the Vito B and the Vito CL, they are two of my favorite cameras, well made and being that they are over 60 yrs old, the images are still great!! Thanks as always for sharing your knowledge of cameras.

    I own one the slower shutter speeds were sluggish so I had an old German master repairman service it about 10 years ago. It takes great photos

    Thanks for the video. Not seen a Vitomatic but have a few Vito B's and CLR's. They are very well made as you say, quite heavy for their size.

      Thanks for the comment Andrew. Yes, Voigtlander made a lot of very nice cameras in the 50's and early 60's.

    I've just had a number 1 version of this camera delivered to me today, which I bought. I love how good these things look and I think I'm going to collect all of the different models. At least the ones that except the use of a cable release on the shutter button, as in my eyes the quality isn't the same on some, due to the f-stop hole being square and not round for some reason. Going to do some photos to judge the lens quality soon. Does anyone have any experience on using the cameras with square aperture and what if any, any benefits they bring to the final photograph.
    Regards, James

      Hi James. I think that you will be impressed with the lens quality.
      As for the models with the square aperture, I'm not aware of those. Cheers, Howard

      @@howpow Hi Howard, I've just dug into my cameras and found the little square apertured Voigtlander, It's a Voigtlander Vitoret F. It's definitely square at f8, 3x2 at f11, and 3x1 at f22. Lower f stops like f5.6,f4 and f2.8 it turns into a 4 sided diamond shape. I don't think it a faulty camera, maybe a faulty design. I got it 2 weeks ago but I've been waiting on some cartridge film loaders before I ordered some bulk film as I haven't used film in 30 years. I think it will be interesting to see how it performs. One good thing I've noticed, as it has a black plastic shutter release next to the lens, I was under the impression that you couldn't use a cable release on it, but just looking at it again there's a hole for one underneath the lower part of the button. I got the camera with 18 camera for £20, it was one of the good ones of the bunch. I like it more with the cable release threaded hole discovery.
      Regards, James

      @@PeckhamHall Hi James, sounds like you're having fun.
      I'm sure the shutter is fine.
      I just remembered, the famous Olympus Trip camera has a diamond aperture and it took great photos.
      Good luck with your renewed film adventures.

    Thank You for this information. I just found my deceased dad's Voigtlander Vitomatic II stowed away in a closet for 40 year. I'm currently digitizing several hundreds slides and negative film frames taken with this camera from late 50s to mid 80s. Some of the color photos from the 60s are stunningly beautiful in color depth and atmosphere. Almost a cinematic feel. Don't know if it's the film or the camera or combination of both making the pictures special. My plan is to get this camera loaded with film and see if this camera it still can make magic. Sadly all I can about cameras are the digital ones. I might need some help with this one.

    • @howpow
      @howpow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi stenbjorklund. The Vito II is a very capable little camera. If it's in good condition it should still produce excellent pictures. They were very well made and chances are it's still working.
      If so, download a light meter app, load a film and take some photos.
      Enjoy, Howard 📷

    Thank you very much for this video! I have this camera at home and was hoping to take some pictures with it. I have no idea if it works or how to even insert the film, but I will try to figure it out - This video was very helpful! English is not my native language and I know nothing about cameras so there was one thing I didn't really understand - The first circle where the numbers go from 1,1 to infinity is that how far away the object is? So if it is at 2,5 the person (or thing) I want to be in focus has to be 2,5 meters away? Or did I misunderstand it? Thank you so much again! Really enjoyed the video 😃😃

    • @howpow
      @howpow  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Amelie, you have understood that correctly, however I suggest you take it to a good camera store to make sure it works correctly before putting film through it.
      Good luck, Howard

    The focusing ring on my Voitlander Vitomatic II will not turn. any idea why?

    • @howpow
      @howpow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Katharine. It should turn quite easily. All I can suggest is to take it to a camera technician. Don't force it.
      Good luck.

    should the meter be in the middle?

    • @howpow
      @howpow  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The meter reads the light from a wide view, so there no significant difference.
      A lot of people use handheld meters which are not close to the camera.

    is it easy for expirienced repair shop to fix?

    • @howpow

      Yes a camera repairer should be able to correct this problem relatively simply.
