Met Lillian Gish when she gave a lecture at Bloomingdale’s in CT to promote her book/life story - I recall she talked about her ‘silent’ years mostly & had said, “Back then in the silent era of movies, a woman’s lips were to be as large as an eye only-- so we wore makeup to create Cupid-bow lips.” I was too young to afford her book, so asked for her autograph on a piece of paper-she looked up at me rather surprised & discerningly…but did give her autograph- which I have to this very day.

Did she mention Bette Davis? I often think both played the same type of character, strong woman with deep convictions.

@@SamCookeFan11 As much as I loved Bette Davis, even back then, I don't recall Ms. Gish mentioning her....she did talk about D.W.Griffith, her sister, of course, her new book, etc. Funny, the only thing I can recall clearly is what she said about lips in conjunction with eye size. But also recall she looked so great & healthy for her age, with light reddish hair. Oddly enough, was just gifted her photo book (used, but in great condition) that I couldn't afford as a young teen when I met her in '73. And in the book's first few pages, she mentions the very thing from her lecture---about silent film actresses' preferred lip size! Her autograph will be inserted behind the front page. It only took 50 years to procure that book! Hope she's smiling down....

This is one several Silent Film national treasures, as is Lillian. She was 35 yrs old in 1928 but still could play the part of a youngster of 16. Thank you RB&A

The music by JS Bach is not original in the movie, it would be better to have the movie with its original music.

In the documentary series Hollywood, Ep 1 they have a brief cut of this movie with an orchestral soundtrack that really heightens the tension with her confrontation with Wirt Roddy in the cabin.
