As a dog enthusiast I'm interested in breeds, their temperaments and needs. I cannot express how wonderful this groomer is. She's kind to the animal she's working on, good at what she's doing, but most of all she's ethical as to that pets specific fur/hair type. We need more like her and I wish her business was near me! VERY IMPRESSIVE!💕

@@karenscritters-8191I came here to say the exact same thing. It only take about 30 seconds to know who both actually knows what they are talking about and also genuinely care about the animals. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Aww I wanted to see you comb8ng the body and how to shave her underneath. What kind of clippers do you have? I have a sheltie. I brush her everywhere. I'd like to shave her underneath so that she can lay on something cool. Mine is 12. I've had her 5 years. Her original mom died so she was up for a new home. I was the lucky one who got her. She has been going to a groomer originally in RI. I took her to a couple in the area bur I didn't like what they did. You must put her on her side to shave underneath? I'm glad the family stepped in to have her see you. Thank you

Awwww, she's beautiful. When I was in high school, I had a golden sheltie. I loved that dog and I remember what you said. Heard it a lot in high school. Now who's dating herself 🤣

Try to never shave a Sheltie. It is a shame this dog's care was neglected. Annie is an extreme case - nice job.

Do you have any videos where you show your whole process? I recently saw my grandfather's sheltie is in exactly this situation and I'd love a step by step on how I could help the pup out!

No I don’t show any how to groom on Utube really. Take the dog to a certified Master Groomer.. Unless u want to invest around 500.00 in the proper tools and learn how to use them to not cut your dog.. And if that’s the case please find someone to show u in person… If you cut this hair it may not grow back and if u don’t get the undercoat out you can cause skin issues amd if u don’t use the blades amd scissors right you can cut the dog.. This is a huge career and there’s a lot of time invested to learn it properly! Stay away from the corporations please!! Good luck

Looking for tips on grooming my rough collie with the behind ear matt's and a sheltie is as close as I can find. Beautiful dog and thanks!

Thanks any mats behind ears need to be shaved. Be careful the skin there is soft like cat skin. You need the right tools I’d go take your dog to a groomer and have them do it once and then you keep
      It up!

Our older male Sheltie came back shaved from the groomer one July day and everyone was shocked! The dog was somewhat sensitive to being messed with and would let you know that with his mouth, by nipping. He regrew fine but looked like a freak until winter. He seemed sad for awhile because he knew it was all wrong. I will admit he had a heavy coat and was nearly 60 pounds, a sweet farm dog, smart and dominate. He passed away at 13 years old.

They should never shave unless you are told.. A lot of the time it doesn’t grow back.. And also some of this feelings about being shaved could of stemmed from the shock and reactions of you.. I always tell people to praise and tell them how beautiful they are cause it helps.. It can be a shock to them also.. Not because of looks but just because it feels so different.. If he was elderly and running a farm and not brushed all the time getting dirty etc. Perhaps shorter was better but you should of been the ones to make that decision.. I shaved my elderly sheltie when he couldn’t take heavy brushing anymore but I would never of done that as a youngster.. I’m glad it turned out ok for you in the end and your pup got to live a fine old age and even get to be on a farm. Thank you!

My sheltie got in cockleburrs & is severely matted from them. I cannot seem to get them all out. Bad. I cannot afford a groomer in this economy. ANY AUGGESTIONS

    • @karenscritters-8191

Hi there.. call around for prices from a Groomer. They all can range hugely different. Make sure they are certified from NDGA or IPG. I don’t know how bad without seeing your dog, so it’s hard for me to tell you what needs done.. shaving isn’t recommended because the dogs coat is not intended to be shaved and might not grow back.. Sometimes it’s necessary… get a good slicker brush and try to get it out, and save some and go to a professional.. I use show sheen on almost all my brush out dogs.. Look at your feed store for it.. the stuff is wonderful! Good luck

You do not need to go to a groomer. I hate it when you tell a professional that you can’t afford it then they tell you to go to a professional. I have cheap tools and a cheap shaver and I do an amazing job all on my own. I don’t hurt the dog either because I go slow. Get some conditioner and water, mix together, apply, and comb it out while wet. Snip big mats of fur in half and quarters then brush what you can. Cut out mats that are too tight to brush out. Shave if necessary, but get as much of that undercoat out as possible for skin health (removing debris from follicles) Their hair will grow back, I know this from experience.

@@rationalskeptic1 I’ll let u in on a little secret I do.. I have 4 horses.. it costs a butt load to have them trimmed by my farrier. So I bought the tools and I went and took a few lessons and I learned a few things…. I do them myself every 3 or 4 times then I hire a professional to do them and look over it and look for things I do not know about… You absolutely can do your own but you don’t know what you don’t know. A good groomer is worth thier weight in gold.. I just sent a Shih home because I felt A deadly thyroid and the dog was not ok and the owner didn’t even realize it.. This kind of experience a professional has with handling thousands of dogs is the gold bar. Same for my horses feet!!
