  • Our "Brazen" 1969 Dodge Charger R/T project car has always had a bit of an alignment problem but we were always too cheap to pay for a quality alignment. Well, no more! We went the max in getting our classic B-body to drive true whether cruising on the highway or making a 10-second pass.

    I like the adjustable strut rod, mainly for centering lower arm, and maybe bias it for some caster. I probably would have procured some offset upper control arms if needed. Usually I try for 2-4 degrees of positive caster. Allowing up to -1.00 degree max camber. Borgeson steering gearbox, big sway bars, always drive excellent. Total alignment

    What a beautiful Charger! Great color combo! I'm not a fan of the hood, though, but your 69 Charger is gorgeous!! Congrats, and thanks for the video. Greetings from El Paso Tx

      Right on! I really wrestled with painting the hood the same T7 Bronze or Organisol like the A12 cars. I needed to run a big scoop because of the tall intake, and the Six-Pack scoops just look weird on Chargers to me. The '68 S/S Dart scoop just felt "right" - especially since I'm building a BIG Hemi for it.

      They have fully adjustable upper A-arms and billet end links. We just didn’t need to go bananas.

    Strut rods are not designed to change caster, though they could. They are designed to ensure smooth LCA motion to prevent binding. If you want more caster, get adjustable UCA's from sources such as Peter @ Bergman Auto Craft.

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do know that BAC (Bergman Auto Craft) sells these EXACT SAME adjustable strut rods, which per Peter, are EXPLICITLY for adjusting caster, right? Here's the link: bergmanautocraft.com/product/strut-rod-kit-b-e-body-mopar/

    • @rboynton8671
      @rboynton8671 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, Nothing said there about adjusting caster. I've corresponded with Peter about this and he said you "can" do that, but not recommended. Same response from the folks at PST. The strut rods are to eliminate binding of the LCA, not to adjust caster.

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right. It's not written out in black and white on the listing. Thankfully, we had Peter in our booth at MoParty between autocross heats and we talked about these as we had just installed them. He literally said to my face, "Yup. All it takes is a couple of twists." Not much else I can say.

    • @rboynton8671
      @rboynton8671 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Guess it depends on the point of view. In a pinch the strut rods can nudge things back to original specs. Realistically though, our old girls need a lot more caster than the camber bolts & strut rods can provide... hence the need for an adjustable UCA. Keep up the good work guys!

    Question. What stall converter are you running? Running around with rpm under the stall speed with destroy that 727

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a Super Street Fighter 3000-3600 from TCI. And heat is what kills converters and we’re running 7.25qts through the aluminum radiator and a separate cooler. I’ll killed 3 automatics behind this 535 stroker; I’m not doing it again.

    A little off??!!! Dude, he says he you + camber on side, and - on one side??!!! obviously, you drag race you car but, 1. on the camber settings, you should be at least a slight bit - on both sides, not - on one, and + on the other! On the caster, since you are racing in a straight line, yo want as much + caster as you can get! If the strut rods don't give that much, invest in a set of adj upper control arms. The more + caster you have, the more stable you will be on the top end. I'm sure you don't want you steering to be way to sensitive to inputs on the top end. You should take a look at germen car alignment specs, to see how they can hold a over 150 + mph on the autobahn!!

      It wasn't that bad. Tennessee roads have a HEAVY crown to them (rain/snow) and I'm running pizza cutters with a manual box. It comes with the territory.

    Who the hell uses the strut rod to adjust the alignment?
    Nothing like tweaking/bending the lower control arm forward to get the alignment set and binding up the lower control arm motion at the same time.

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Literally everyone who builds a classic Mopar who wants it to drive straight and corner responsively. The angle not as drastic as you make it out to be. Adjustable strut rods are incredibly common and used in SCCA/Trans-Am racing.

    • @Mopar_Taxi_Guy
      @Mopar_Taxi_Guy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moparconnection so just because everyone does it, does that make it the proper way of do things?
      The strut rod is a lower control arm support so that the arm doesn't move forward or rearward during suspension movement and under braking.
      The purpose of the adjustable strut rods are not for setting the alignment specs. When installed correctly they offer more rigidity to keep the outer portion of lower control arm located where it is supposed to be and they offer less binding of the suspension for smoother operation.
      The adjustment is there so that they can be installed and tightened up without moving the lower control arm from it's at rest position.

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. QA1, Hotchkis, PST and even Penske Racing all offer adjustable strut rods with the primary intent of providing caster adjustment. While yes, it is a support it is also another axis of control.
      Modern Heim joints remove the slop of rubber (or poly) bushings, provide superior support, and (again) adjustability. Just because Ma Mopar didn't offer it in 1969 doesn't mean it's wrong. Sometimes progress is good.
      If you don't want to do this, certainly don't. That's OK. But you cannot tell me it doesn't work.

    • @Mopar_Taxi_Guy
      @Mopar_Taxi_Guy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moparconnection I never said the adjustable rod wasn't a good idea. I'm just trying to bring to light that you are misinformed and misinforming people that watch this video on their intended purpose and how they are to be setup and used.

    • @moparconnection
      @moparconnection  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mopar_Taxi_Guy but that's the problem. I'm not wrong. These adjustable struts are precisely designed to provide this level of adjustment. It's literally what these companies sell these to do.
