I’ve had an anxiety attack before, and this movie did a perfect job of displaying the lead-up and affects of such attack. Pixar didn’t play off Anxiety for laughs; they respected that sometimes people really, really struggle with this emotion, and they highlighted that beautifully.

I feel the same way about Deadpool and Wolverine. Even if it's good, I hope it doesn't make a billion because Marvel Studios is gonna look at that and think, "Oh so we can just keep using the multiverse to bring back everyone and people will show up."

@@miguelmunuera2601 That's what scares me. The marketing shows Hugh Jackman returning and all the X-Men villains and that's what people are talking about, not the story. I know it's not realistic, but I hope it makes 100 million or 200 million max. To me, Deadpool and Wolverine looks like it's going to be nothing but fan service. If it makes a billion, it shows that the audience doesn't care about story or artistic integrity and that will make me sad.

There‘s actually one part I don‘t like about Inside Out (the Franchise as a whole). They are definitely fun movies and they are well-made, based on a highly original premise, and they do a good job implementing that premise.
But, that premise, which is also the basis for the film‘s success also has a (in my view) glaring problem: namely, reducing the very real problems faced by adolescents to a question of emotional self-regulation. Like, all the anxiety Riley faces in both films are caused by very real, potentially serious or traumatic events in her life, and those events cause her to experience emotional distress.
But the solution to that distress is always ultimately internal: Riley‘s emotions just have to learn to get along again and take a chill pill. But none of that solves Riley‘s real problems, and these problems are never covered as an issue separate from the emotional response to them. At best Riley is learning to passively cope with outside stress, but not how to tackle it rationally* as something that can be either solved or at least understood with reason.
Given that serious emotional distress in children and adolescents is pretty much always the result of outside trauma, and that this is probably the main thing that can damage emotional self-regulation, this seems like a not-totally-insignificant omission
*in fact rationality or any kind of real „ego“ doesn‘t really exist in-universe.

    • @miguelmunuera2601
      @miguelmunuera2601  หลายเดือนก่อน

This is actually a great point. I do think that it would've been very challenging to confront this in the movie but the way they do it is obviously not realistic. Because you're right, trauma comes from something external and we need to learn to logically and rationally deal with it and our emotions. Which doesn't get mentioned in the movie

I find it confusing that Pixar is going to focus on sequels and spin-offs when one of their biggest flops in recent memory was a spin-off. Sure, Soul, Luca, and Turning Red didn't do so great, thats because they were direct to streaming and weren't available in theaters until YEARS after their original release. Lightyear was the only movie released in that time period that had no excuse, and only flopped because it was mediocre at best.

I think the people who complain about sequels are not the same crowd that keeps turning out for them. The vast majority of audiences don't care about animation and think that it is kids media .parents are taking their kids to films without caring about quality. Hence why the more mature of the Pixar films tend to flop like soul and elemental. And why illumination films do so well. The money is in parents taking their kids to the movies not the film bros online.
I'm not saying Pixar should only make fun movies but that a huge part of the problem is the lack of respect for animation amongst the general public.

    • @miguelmunuera2601

That's actually an amazing point. I hadn't really thought of that but it's so true. Most of animation's audience (at least for the studios like Disney, Pixar, Illumination) is families with kids. They don't care what movie it is they just want to watch something fun.. That's sad though ngl

I love this point because that basically sums up why IO2 worked.
Inside Out 2 has the fantasy, crazy, fun side through the mind world, which has been so richly developed over the two films. The emotions are entertaining and adorable characters that kids can easily grow attached to. It has great humor and a general plot that’s not overly complicated that would’ve made things harder to understand for kids.
However, just like the first film, you get some really juicy things when you start digging deeper. For the older audience, they may better see the relatability of the film, the character development, the meaning of scenes like the anxiety attack or the projections scene in Imagination Land.
The key is to make a story that’s for everyone, which is simple to say but surprisingly hard to do. It just so happens IO2 managed to strike that balance, to not overwhelm the kids and not make adults cringe.

Random sequels aren't necessarily bad, but they will always be overshadowed by a movie that SET UP the potential for a sequel. Inside out, when they get the new council, they had the "Puberty" button, and whether or not they actually had a sequel planned, they set up the idea, so its not just random

None of these talks factor adjusting for inflation. Toy Story 3 was a bigger box office success than Toy Story 4 despite both making 1.07 billion at the box office. Given the gaps of time between Pixar sequels, inflation plays a huge role in these numbers seeming huge.

You wanna predict (the worst of regardless of the quality of their animation being too high for those) AI-generated scripts for these anti-original Pixar films (I blame both Disney let alone CEO Bob Iger for all of its corporate greed where not only do they have to avoid original movies, they also always have to force “the message” with gender stereotypes like the “weak white men” and Pixar is even more of a shell of its former self because Pete Docter just had to announce that Pixar would hate to do original movies and should stick with sequels and sometimes reboots considering the success of all their pre-2020s movies save for The Good Dinosaur which even that performed better than the ones from the first quarter of the 2020s. And as much as I hate for it to happen, there’s always gonna be people who think we’re wrong by acting like they’re still going to make original films, we just love to hate on Disney/Pixar even though either they should get better or close down so that perhaps the torch can be passed rather than animators and writers lose their jobs like what happened with genuinely defunct animation studios including but not limited to Sullivan Bluth Studios/Fox Animation Studios/Blue Sky Studios)

Pixar really needs to make new original stories with 2.5d style(3d that has a 2d look.) to be back on track. I don't think pixar is bad at making sequels. However, Pixar need to make sequels when we have more stories to tell like bug's life. Pixar needs to stop to make sequels for the money(with their iconic movies like toy story.)

I'll write my impressions of the film first.
On the visual side and the representation of the new journey into the protagonist's mind, I have nothing to say; Pixar confirms itself as extremely creative, and even the design of the new emotions conveys their role in the girl's maturation very well.
Even on the gag side, I found myself satisfied, especially the one involving the "Dora the Explorer" style cartoon character, as it plays well on the metanarrative.
However, in terms of the plot I'm not sure where I stand: on the one hand, it's smooth and there are never dead points.
But it is, essentially, the same plot seen in the first film: the emotions are thrown out of the command center and have to return, simply in this case it is no longer just Joy and Sadness, but all the previous ones that are ousted by Anxiety and other new emotions. Furthermore, I noticed that Joy's development path from the first film was set aside, given that we see her, in the incipit, intent on getting rid of the memories that can cause pain in Reily....and it is curious, given that in the course in this sequel he learns the same lesson that he had already learned in the first.
Furthermore, I find it perplexing that Anxiety, Embarrassment, but above all Boredom and Envy never appeared in the 13 years of the protagonist's life: I'm not saying that at the age of 1-5/6 they had manifested themselves in a concrete way, but at least the Boredom and Envy are very present even in young children, even at the level of a family film, it is also very strange that even in adults these emotions do not appear at all.
Furthermore, although I appreciated the representation of Reily's panic attack, I thought that this was a missed opportunity to show a very important characteristic, which is not a single emotion, but if anything it is the ability to feel pain of the other, namely empathy: when Reily is sitting on the bench and trying to calm down, I would have very much liked her friends to have approached her before she calmed down and told her how they too had suffered similar panic attacks, showing how Reily's emotions saw those of the other two girls, intent on observing them intensely from their respective command centers. Or maybe leave everything more vague, but Reily's emotions distinctly felt the voice of those of others.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Secondly, speaking of the possibility that Pixar may focus too much on sequels... the problem, in my opinion, is that many of those stories had their ideal ending.
I take Monsters Inc, as an example: the beauty of the film was that it subverted audience expectations, with the classic "monster in the closet" theme.
What could we talk about, in a second film that always had Sully and Mike at the center? Of their formative years, and in this sense it made sense to set everything in the university context... also thanks to the fact that, those who had seen the first film as children, were now of the right age to identify with the university years of the two monsters.
A real Monsters Inc 2, what can you talk about?
And I could take the next Toy Story 5 as an example, especially considering how the third film was a perfect conclusion, with the passing of the baton from Andy to Bonnie.
In reality, in my opinion, the concepts, the basic ideas of these Pixar films are still valid... it's the characters who have exhausted what they had to say. Why not make a Toy Story 5 where we see the stories of new toys, new ways of understanding the world of childhood?
It is also true, however, that a similar concept is very difficult to remodel to apply it to new themes... in fact 4 is a sort of mix between toy story 2 and the third.
Even if we wanted to talk about new themes applied to the world of toys, the characters' characteristics can be modeled, but what about the world around them? I mean, the second Toy story spoke, in secret, about the contrast between two eras of entertainment and, even though electronic games were not yet so widespread, the fact that toys equipped with modern interactive elements (and prefigurations of video games widespread on large scale), be it spacemen (Buzz and Zurg), perhaps it meant something significant...now that we are in the internet age, what toys could we use? What could be the new themes to explore? How important would the human component be?
Beyond this, if Disney is smart, it will also aim to have Pixar develop new ideas to have a sort of counterweight to the sequels, which cannot necessarily all be of good quality (for example, in an Incredible 3, I would expect the passing of the baton from Bob and Ellen's generation to their children, who have become mature [or, at least, Violet and Flash as mature and Jack Jack as an adolescent or pre-adolescent, perhaps making the characters jump 10 years] and introducing a villain who can actually pose a threat not so much to the supers, but to what they represent (in this sense, Syndrome was perfect as Bob's foil).

Damn what a comment. I can't possible answer everything but I appreciate it so much, truly amazingly said. I definitely understand some of your concerns about Inside Out 2, I also believed the plot was nothing special and repetitive, but the new emotions do at least add a new dynamic that prevents it from being stale. I do think the smart strategy is to obviously release safe box office hits in the sequels while mixing in some great original stories, but honestly I think the split will be 80% sequels, rather than 50% which I think it should be. I don't think Disney cares about anything other than short term cash grabs, which is what these sequels will be.

i was just hit with the dread that that’s the conclusion pixar (or disney) are going to take from inside out 2’s success and suddenly ran intro your video.
i mean if the will give it another decade and will actually put time and thought for the third movie, im up to it, but only if they commit to a trilogy and no more. like what toy story should’ve been. and as you said, even for a 3rd movie there needs to be a really good reasons cause the conclusion of the first movie is that situation can be a combination of more than one emotion and that every emotion is important, and the conclusion of the 2nd movie is that our emotions don’t have to control who we are. and that’s a pretty mature conclusion so unless there is a really good reason, and not just to add more emotions to make jokes and sell figurines, they should let it go

There's actually original films that will come out in Pixar. First one is Elio that will come out in June next year and an unnamed Pixar film that will come out in March 2026 and then we have Toy Story 5 in June the same year. Here’s the problem with the second movie actually there’s many problems with it. The first problem is when they made the first movie they originally had no plans to make a sequel so because of that the second movie made no sense because now that there’s so new emotions yet in the first movie when we see other peoples minds, they have the same core motions, knowing actual research and how brains develop you definitely have different emotions along with more emotions that you gain later on that we didn’t see in anyone else’s mind the fact of evolved into something worse or even diminished anyway because we know that sadness can turn into depression or even worse anger can become less or worse itself, same thing with joy and all the others, and the fact that adults do gain anxiety And have anxiety and other emotions. This is the problem. The movie makes absolutely no sense and is not good. Fails in so many different ways and I’ve heard a lot of excuses from people of why it happened this way and happened that way, but the thing is people are just trying to justify bad movies and to be honest there hasn’t been very many good movies that have come out in the last 10 to 15 years are garbage because it has been looked at from movies made before 2000 and movies made after 2000 before 2000. The vast majority of movies being made were original content original movies and the majority movies being made or sequels, but the problem is people nowadays they’ve gotten so used to so much trash that they don’t understand what quality is anymore, and the fact that I’ve had people tell me that the movie inside out was made for kids so why should adults care and that’s the thing I don’t like when people spout out it’s a typical garbage that people say to justify bad writing because I think it’s interesting that when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s we actually got real heartfelt movies that had a lot of emotions made you actually feel these emotions like full on and had great stories and they were actually good people justifying by saying oh well it’s a kids movie is just a way for people to give the studios away of saying oh yeah we don’t need to give kids good real stories. We don’t need to have any traumatic things to happen in the movie because they just gotta be happy go lucky most of time maybe a little bit of emotion here and there but nothing really that deep because we don’t wanna traumatize people life is traumatizing and if you don’t put that stuff out early, it’s gonna be harder for them to adjust when it actually happens. Be honest I have no faith at this point in people that watch entertainment because people don’t know what’s good anymore, and when something does come along, that is actually really good and really hits you hard people push it aside. They don’t pay enough attention to it because they’re too occupied by garbage. It’s just like the fact that when the Jim Henson company made the dark crystal age of resistance, which was a fantastic series. The best series I have seen in a long time, barely watched why cause they’re too busy watching stupid crap like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead or other trash like that but when company comes along and bring something back and tells an amazing story people ignore it because people need flashy colors. They need action scenes all the time they need all this crap people can’t enjoy story anymore. It’s the same thing with Star Trek. Star Trek to me died after enterprise, because after that, it became nothing more than an action movie an action series there’s no more sitting down and hashing things out trying to figure out the situation having deep emotions and that’s when the Orville came into being and brought what Star Trek had lost back, but none of people give it. The Prop deserves because it actually did what Star Trek cannot doto the entertainment industry has been dead for sometime and most people don’t know what good stuff is when it’s put right in front of them to be honest at entry same thing with the gaming, industry and many others because people don’t know what’s good anymore

True, the success of this sequel is possible to drive those people at Pixar in the wrong direction and cause them to think that sequels are the ony type of movies that they should make instead of making both sequel movies and original ones. Not only sequels. Same thing with Disney and those 100% crappy woke live-action remakes that have poorly made hyper-realistic CGI in them. To continue to try to teach modern Dis-woke-ney that they shouldn't make more of those type of movies that the public has serious reasons to dislike soo much, is one of the main reasons why I soo strongly want that photo-realistic Mufasa/Lion King prequel movie to loose at the box office in ticket sales and public popularity to the Sonic 3 videogame adaption movie from Paramount this year. The fact that both of those movies will have December 20, 2024 as their opening theatrical release day still hasn't been changed at all, neither of them have been delayed.

We know, this is the first Pixar sequel after Toy Story 4 to ever become a success, although the movies this year, including how Soul won an Oscar, Luca, Turning Red, and Elemental were all beautiful and successful in their own ways, so are Toy Story 2 and 3, Incredibles 2, and Finding Dory, the only sequels that were awful are Cars 2 and 3, and Lightyear, I don't know about Monster's University though (either it's unnecessary for a sequel, or should've been released first). Plus, when Pixar made Inside Out 2, they finally come to the realization that this is what was missing this whole time, a good tearjerker. Sometimes like Elemental or Soul, if some failed Pixar movies never existed (still not seeing the problem with The Good Dinosaur and Onward being considered bombs), Inside Out 2 should've been released years ago.💙😢❤️😡💛😃🩷😳🧡😰🩵🥹💜🥱💚🤢💜😱
