    What a team of men to have in charge, Shankly, Paisley,Fagan and Melia, and what wonderful teams they produced.
    Bill Shankly had that aura, a no messing individual who knew his game and what he wanted.

    Singleton and Johnston played for Liverpool in the FA Youth Final. Joyce played a few games for Motherwell none sustained a professional career in football.

    As a teenager I was coached by an ex Spurs apprentice. Sacked by Spurs because he liked the booze too much he told me but he also said he realised he wasn't going to be good enough before that.
    You could see what he learnt though. He could head a ball farther than any of us could kick it.
    He was a bit of a lost soul. No qualifications, drank way too much and had a mean side to him that drew complaints from parents. Eventually he got sacked by the junior club because he upset too many people.
    I wonder what happened to him. Sad.

    @ 10-00...the apprentices start a match at Anfield at home to Blackburn Rovers
    but immediately cuts to a lovely pass with the outside of the right foot from the
    visiting midfield player which splits the defence. Bbut what a cracking strike to beat
    the keeper, very unusually at that time by a black player. What was his name?
    He looked the real deal. //////////////////////se.

    Loved those days, youth team, reserves then the 1st team. It's academy now from 8 years old, it's gone backwards for me, kids should play at a local level until they're at least 14.

    10:14 _When a goal is scored the Kop doesn't exactly erupt_
    Ummmm, that was a goal for the away side that look to be Blackburn Rovers. The only time that the crowd might have cheered a Blackburn goal would be 14th May 1995 when Alan Shearer put them 1-0 ahead.

    2:23 who can tell me the makes and models of the cars that the professionals drive? How flashy were those for the time? I've got no concept of British cars of that time except the MGB GT(spotted), the Mini and the XKE. How rich did you have to be to drive a Jag or a Rolls Royce?

      Steve Heighway and John Toshack were driving Ford Capri Mk1's. Great cars especially the V6 engined ones. I have a 1979 MK3 Capri. European answer to the American Ford Mustang

    The famous Bob Johnston "Fodder" ???

    • @mrrjohnston9395
      @mrrjohnston9395 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You do not know me, so don't make assumptions! I have had a successful teaching career and also played at a high non league level. I am still playing 5 a side (can you work out the maths to estimate my age?) and still enjoying it.

    • @lennylaa1686
      @lennylaa1686 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you meant by ''fodder'', maybe something to do with most
      of these lads not making the grade.
      I assume Bob, that you probably played a couple of seasons in the Central League but never got a first team game? Maybe not getting another chance in the lower
      leagues before switching to non-league.
      I'd be interested to know Bob if you played in that apprentices match at Anfield shown here. If so, do you know the names of their goal scorer, the black lad and
      also the one who fed him that brilliant pass. Long time ago, I know! //a

      Signing that contract he seemed dumbstruck and star struck both at the same
      time, maybe he felt kt awkward with the TV cameras there.
