    Classic Game Room Pro 4K Hyper Elite plays Pac-Man on Atari 2600! Is Pac-Man on Atari 2600 as bad as you remember it, or is it better now that we're living in the awful dystopian future garbage year of 20XX? Mark digs Pac-Man and Omega Ronin makes a song out of the music. Enjoy! @OmegaRoninMusic #atari #atari2600 #pacman #ataripacman #classicgameroom #cgr2085 #videogames #retrogaming

    This game was hard to get when it came out - I distinctly remember we got to the store just as they were unboxing the case of Pacman games. It was fresh from the box! Although it's a terrible port looking at it now, back then it was the only port for the 2600 and I poured some hours into it.

    The first TV I ever owned was black and white. I think was 10, so 1985ish. It had a "remote" that was actually wired to the TV, it had channel up and down and when you pushed it the channel knob still turned with a loud click. I remember watching Giligans Island and the Jack Benny show on it as well as playing my Atari 2600 on it. Good times.

      @@penismightier9278 Yup, later games were really showing that there was still a lot to push from that console.
      Atari made very future proof consoles, until Jack Tramiel. One can only guess what the 7200 could have been if it had included that new sound chip they were making, and if it wasn't "marketed far under it's market price as Jack wanted to get rid of it".

    I still have a black-and-white television. It's one of those Radio Shack Genexxa (the fancier store brand they came up with in the 1990s to replace "Realistic") TV/Radio combos with a 7" screen. I don't actually use it for anything anymore since most NTSC transmissions in Canada (except for some rural repeater stations and very local indie stations) were shut down a decade ago, it doesn't even have composite inputs, so I can't use it for retro gaming (well, unless I wanted to play via RF), and I have better ways of listening to the radio including my CD Walkman that's also a radio, but I still keep it on my nightstand because I find it to be a comforting presence. For bedroom TVs, I actually found I prefer the ambience of black-and-white over colour.

    I actually always thought ET got a bad rap, compared to this port. At least Pac-Man had a template to work with-and people had specific expectations for it-but with ET, it was all hype and no good idea about how bad movie tie-inn games could be, even though Spielberg saidE.T. were a film that “would never be on cable or VHS,” because it was a movie so incredible it couldn’t be rightly experienced outside a theater. That lasted one round of theater re-release.

    It's 2023 and I'm still angry about 2600 Pac-Man. What a ripoff. I know Todd Frye only had a 4K ROM to work with, but this game was a complete rip. It's like he never even knew what Pac-Man was. Maybe he only looked at the arcade cabinet art and then created from there.
    Oh, and for the record, I thought this video would review the homebrew Pac-Man 4K cartridge for Atari 2600, which is a far closer recreation of the arcade. The 8K version is just about as perfect as you could get from this console. But the actual retail cart we got in 1982? Ugh. What a rip.

  • @schtive81
    @schtive81 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a stupid amount of nostalgia for this game. yeah, it was an arguably awful port, Ms. Pac-Man 2600 was a legitimate improvement. But the sound effects of this version are engraved into my brain.
    I remember a point in the late 1980's and 1990''s when you would hear the Pac-Man 2600 sound effects in random cartoons, and even a few TV shows. Like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series, the Technodrome computers would have the sound of Pac-Man dying coming out of them. They were just easy stock sound effects to get a hold of.
    The 2600 could not render Pac-Man and all four ghosts at once, so it has to swap between two ghosts at a time. But it kinda works, because it gives them a translucent appearance.
