I like coming back to these takayama line trips every so often and watching them, they are so relaxing. Plus I notice something new every time ! When I first watched I thought the tunnel numbering was commonplace but after having watched many different lines it seems this practice is either not nearly as easy to see or is not done. I really like it though.
I really enjoyed watching this video from the front cab what beautiful winter scenery could you do the return trip from the front cab again this time from Toyama to Nagoya again during the winter.
When I see a new AUNZ RAILFAN video I know it's going to be a good day. Your videos transport me to another place in the world and it's such a great feeling! Keep it up!
Just saw the summer trip, now watched the winter trip and couldn't say which is better; they are both magical journeys through stunning landscapes. Thanks so much for bringing me with you on these trips!
That house between the rails at 7:26... that would be a dream Long time viewer, first time commenter. I'm an Australian fan of Japanese railways, where you are a Japanese fan of Australian railways. We're opposites!
I thought it was a rabbit too at first, but I think it might've been a monkey! Take a closer look in fullscreen at 4K resolution: it doesn't have ears like a rabbit.
Either I'm wrong, or in the country side, the tracks have heaps of fish plates! OR the rails are very short! Or is due to extreme different weather conditions?
Lots of snow along the way from Nagoya to Toyama. I assume it's quite rare, correct me if I'm wrong, although there are a lot of mountains along the line and they usually get a lot of snow fall. Either way, the trip was very beautiful with all that snow. Lots of palm trees covered in snow along the line, it looked kinda funny. Thank you for this nice and entertaining video.
46:50 (on the right) so many videos like this along the route there are many place where a switch on the end of a passing track or something just leads for a few years and then into a long bed of gravel. Is that an emergency feature in case a train is out of control and can just be run off the rails safely or something? They don't seem to be more tracks that were removed really since beyond the gravel patch there doesn't seem to be abandoned railbed or anything. Just curious! I see them frequently along the side of the route in videos like this.
It's an overrun protection. Essentialy protecting the main rail from trains that can't stop in time for whatever reason. Nowadays they get slowly but steadily replaced by smarter signaling and train control systems but it will be a long time before they will all disappear.

this railway is an engineering feat,, beyond Imagination
Great video, wonderful journey and such beautiful scenery. Would love to do that journey myself. Many thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks
Thanks again!
Wow! Watching the signs go back and forth at the end was really exciting!! Nice trip, though.
nice video, info and the trip. i hope someday gonna be my train to trip to the japan' cities
When I see a new AUNZ RAILFAN video I know it's going to be a good day. Your videos transport me to another place in the world and it's such a great feeling! Keep it up!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I am glad you enjoyed it for a long time‼
It's been a long time since i have visited Gifu ken and Toyama . Snowy ride is always perfect. Thank you for sharing .
Very beautiful tour 😍💙

Long time viewer, first time commenter. I'm an Australian fan of Japanese railways, where you are a Japanese fan of Australian railways. We're opposites!
Hi from Australia. We've rode on that line and it was an unexpected pleasure!
It is really great to see so much of the real, not plastic Japan. Thank you.
59:30 Crazy rabbit tracks are for trains.
That looked like a small macaque.
I keep hoping to see Totoro make an appearance in these videos.
I thought it was a rabbit too at first, but I think it might've been a monkey! Take a closer look in fullscreen at 4K resolution: it doesn't have ears like a rabbit.

Wonderful ride Aunz, thanks for your work.
Cool Video. Thanks for sharing. 😀
The train and rail sounds are magic
I wonder when will JR Central put the HC85 into service to replace the now-aging KiHa 85's.
Always a fan of The Hida, any video is appreciated.
Very enjoyable! It’s beautiful country. I love the sound of those Cummins diesels. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Excellent video 👍👍👍
greetings from Indonesia !!
Really enjoyed this video excellent train journey the scenery was amazing really enjoyed the winter scenes more like this please 👍👍
Always love the snow trains.
Love the video, I noticed on the station Platforms, the names are in English (岐阜) and Japanese (Gifu) wow! Is that for tourists?
The ending maybe loud, but it is concise. Great video! Thankyou for doing this trip for me.

when was this taken? so beautiful the snow scenery. meanwhile, spring season has begun in yokosuka and miura here , even during the winter, its hardly to see any piece of snow here....
Great place and great video!
Not able to find a lot on the drive train of these units. Some may be powered by Cummins diesels, an interesting side note. How is the engine energy transported to the wheels? It almost sounds as if there is a shift transmission in some instances but it is not pronounced enough or frequent enough to to confirm that. More of a bus style automatic, hydraulic, transmission? Think that may be more likely. Very interesting route. If it were not for videos like this, most of us would never get a chance to see the area. Grateful, thanks.

Hello, this train runs on Cummins NTA855-R1 Diesel engine with hydraulic automatic transmission.
