Also do not forget to slow down yourself as a parent. Mimic the behavior you want to create and do that with your child. Do a puzzle together, look at books, play a board game, draw together. We use to do a "family thank you or note", in which we all sat together and drew one one sheet of paper to send along to someone. I had a busy boy and he loved the time that we were calm together. I tried to schedule that time, but that did not always work out but he would sometimes ask for quiet time with me and eventually could do more on his own. Great topic.
Thanks for this. I have a boisterous almost four year old son. It’s full on, but he does really enjoy watercolour painting, storytelling, music, and being outdoors in all weathers. Waldorf education for boys is a topic I would love to hear more about. I would like to find more activities we can both enjoy together.
Thank you, Sarah! I would love to see more videos about parenting young boys. I have a four year old boy, too. We are firmly in the "willing" stage of development!! Rhythm to our day is so helpful. We can usually have some quieter time after meals to help us balance out the activity. Also, I've put away many of our smaller toys to allow space for "big play" while he is in this stage of development.
How about dietary considerations? What are you fueling your children with? Some fuels make the engine run smoothly, others make the engine erratic and wild.
As a mother to four fairly feral kids (they tame with age - that’s what I tell newer moms) I loved this topic. Keeping kids in at recess makes me want to pull out my hair!
Hi, Sarah. As I've said before I really like your videos. I'm sorry for going off-topic but I have a Waldorf-related question for you. I don't have any kids as I'm only 19. There are no kids in the house (just my mom, my dog, and I) but still this past year I've started incorporating Waldorf traditions in our home anyway. I think they're beautiful traditions even for adults. For example, we have a nature table, celebrate the festivals, etc. So today is Martinmas. I know the traditional way of celebrating is by having a lantern walk, but it would be really weird if 2 grown women walked around their neighborhood singing and carrying lanterns. Do you have any other ideas on how we could celebrate Martinmas? I already did make a couple of lanterns. Any suggestions you have would be much appreciated. :-)
My children, 5 and 3, also enjoy washing windows and walls with washcloths. They think it is fun, and they do eventually feel like having a quieter time.
Runing around the house and count how many times is how we dealt with an orphan child from Russia who had not ever been held for her firs 5 years. She calmed down more and more.
We have had very little TV time the last 2 days. Just snuggling to a movie while settling down for a nap one day. My two year old hasn't missed it at all. I was really overusing it during winter.
Last Halloween my daughter wanted to be a monarch butterfly. We made a great costume and when she put it on she was sooo excited and was flitting around the room, "flying", and wanting to go out to Trick or Treat with her friends...But first she ran up to the full length mirror to see herself...and burst into SOBS! What she pictured in her head was not at all what she saw in the mirror . She has a great imagination, but was so distraught with the "real" image that she did not want to join her friends. How much imagination is too much??
This is one reason that Waldorf early childhood classrooms have no mirrors, Virginia. We want children under seven to be living freely in their imaginations and not be made prematurely self-conscious. I do not believe that a child can ever have "too much imagination!" The important thing is that until she saw herself in the mirror, the costume made her FEEL like a butterfly and to become one. I'm so sorry to hear that she had that reaction. I hope she was able to overcome these feelings and enjoy Halloween.
Could you do a video talking about your experience with getting your Waldorf certification? Where did you get it and what was it like? I’m looking to get my certification sometime in the next couple of years and I would love to hear a little bit about your experience.
I have a busy girl-and toddler girl. One of my other girls would be happy to lounge & paint all day😆chores is super hard to get them to do even if we put on music or sing etc-it’s usually a battle-OKAY you need a KITCHEN episode Please Please Please!! Let’s make butter & bread 💖💖I would love to turn off TV, but I do love watching movies w/my kids on occasion. I also love TH-cam so many informational videos & communities of moms

if you have a garden you could make a little bonfire. It s true, lantern walk is rather for the kids.
