  • No, it doesn't need to take 15 hours to replace your Valvematic actuator. Actually, it is a pretty simple replacement!

Thanks for this video friend. Do you know where I can get the slim pin? the one near the actuator ?

I have the same issue. Did you ever figure out where to get the pin?

Great video and top tip with the magnet! Much easier than the other method of removing the bolts to turn the controller until the pin faces sidewards.
I swapped my Valvematic controller in under 2 hours from opening the lid to deleting the engine warning light in my Lotus Elise.
One thing I may add: you may have to pull the shaft out ouf the engine towards the controller to re-connect the pin. Do that with to very big screwdrivers - one on either side of the connector and be prepared that this takes a real effort if the shaft on the new controller has been fully retracted. Do both sides together - otherwise it will tilt to one side and you wont get the pin in. Use a punch to put it through shaft and connector and align both a little if necessary until you feel no ridge when feeling down with the punch and the pin will just slide in...
Top video and once again many thanks!

This is the only documentation I've found at all of that metal plate at 2:29 on the shaft , that prevents twisting the Valvematic completely. I have my pin pushed down toward the bottom slightly. Do you have any tips on how I can get the pin back up then use the magnet? I need to find a powerful magnet lol. Thank you @JonathanErber. This has been leaving me without a car for a couple days now.

I ended up dismounting the whole shaft and slightly leaning it up in order to remove the VVT controller. Be careful keeping track of the metal spacers as they are in a particular order based on their size. They like to fall down into the cylinder head.

HeyJonathan, on the third shaft, the one in your video and mine has this metal "flag" (I call it), located just to the left of the right end of shaft (looking at engine from front) Is this flag necessary? Because my son and I were working on his and my son broke this flag off. Any insight would be great. I can't seem to find any documentation on it anywhere, and some don't have the piece at all.

Same break down for the 2020? A buddy told me 2020 you don’t remove the valve over

If the pin doesn’t come out….. you just break the actuator into pieces, then you can get the pin out. About a 2 hour job

I just had to break my sons unit into pieces. It was all sucked up to the nose, no getting that out. 😢
