Great video... I've been camping off my Harley for years now. Just a couple of recommendations... First, with any tarp/poncho, always use a ridge line. It supports the fabric better. Like you, I use a plow point. Toggles, loops, truckers hitch, a prusick knot, all work great. Tie it off the high side of the bike or a tree, stake it out taunt, and sleep til the birds start to sing the next morning. A tyvek ground sheet saves your gear. It's tough, cheap, and waterproof. Inside a gortex bivy, I tuck a airpad, and down bag. Even in the rain, I stay warm & dry. Everything fits in a 10L dry bag. My mess is equally simple. A titanium mug, spork, p38, tinfoil, hexamine fuel tabs, a bic, some local rocks, and Medagalia d'Oro instant espresso. That and granola bars, are breakfast. Each trip, I see what gear/clothes I used, which worked well or didn't or needed, and pair it down, for the next ride. Ride safe, and have fun!
This is a fantastic write up! I agree 100% on the ridge line it’s my preferred way as well, and allows you to tie up the hood to get some head room underneath. I’ll have to do another video on that this summer, I was worried it would be too technical for a beginner
Excellent video!! Thank you for showing those simple knots with the toggle wood. Awesome suggestions! Have you ever thought about bringing a thin hammock with tree savers? A little bit longer paracord to go between the two trees to throw your poncho tarp over covering the hammock? It hardly takes up any room at all in the pack and it definitely is a good alternative if the ground is rocky or severely sloped. Also keeps you up off the ground if it's raining and away from the ground critters. Pack a bug net designed for the hammock and your setup like a king!
Thank you! And absolutely. I’ve got a warbonnet traveler XL that I love, but I was worried some people would find the setup too complicated but if we’re just talking top tier camping setups, the hammock is fantastic and super packable. I should do a part 2 on this style of video to show that setup, thank you for the idea 👍🏼
I’m with you 100%. I have a 4” thick pad from Paria outdoor that I love. Was a little pricier than the klymit (I think around $90) but if it’s cold that’s the one I’m taking for sure. I should make an updated video for cold weather camping
Thanks for taking the time to show us the simple knots, toggles and such. This is one of the better minimalist set ups I have seen without having to spend a lot. Simplicity is key. Thanks for a great video. God bless.
Here in NH it really isn’t bad, but not setting up right on water is important. I’ll usually just pull my sleeping bag up over my head if they’re particularly aggressive that day
If that's your concern I don't think Moto camping is for you. he's literally bringing the bare minimums and you're worried about where you're going to stuff a bottle of insect repellent and if you're worried about the creepy crawlers in the ground you shouldn't be camping in the first place
There are enclosed mosquito nets with zippered doors a person can buy in different configurations. Some are a bit spendy while some are under $20 last time I looked and they're super lightweight. There is also this stuff called Permetherin which can come in an insecticide spray. You take your camping gear, tent, sleeping bag, ground sheet, even your camp clothing and you spray treat all your gear. Some guys swear by its effectiveness but don't breathe it in or get it in your eyes and on your skin when wet applying it. Keep people and pets away while spraying also never let it come in contact with waterways as it harm's fish.
For all the millennials out there, the loop on the end of the Paracord is a BOWLINE. Would have been helpful if you had shown people how to tie a bowline (which is a very simple knot), but it won't slip and close the loop. Using the stick in the loop is known as a "TOGGLE".
I like that you actually showed how to use the items instead of just describing them in use and showing B-Roll of them already setup. Good video.
Thanks brotha! All about showing what others have shown to me over the years, happy to hear it was helpful 🙏🏼

I would go the extra on the Klymit Pad and get the Insulated one. Convection from the ground will keep you cold all night.

I got an insulated, reconditioned, full warranty one right from Klymit at 1/2 price.@@greasesgarage

So glad to hear it was helpful! I’ve used this simple setup for years because it’s just so easy to pack. God bless 🙏🏼
Great info and well presented
Thanks brotha!
thank you
This is super helpful. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏼
neat and simple ! thank you !
Glad you enjoyed it man 🤘🏼 don’t need much space for a good nights sleep these days
You still planning on doing the whole 9 on your camping setup?
Absolutely, first camping trip this summer I’ll film that video
You forgot to mention the motto for sleeping bag selection. "The only thing exposed is your mouth and nose" 😆
Hahaha how could I forget??
Nice setup but those inflatable pillows just remind me to much of prison and I use my chaps for a pillow
Haha I didn’t know they had those in prison. Fair point then, some rolled up clothes does almost the same thing
all questions here can become a separate video ... :P
Tens of cents!!😂😂
BIG money baby! 😂😂
@@greasesgarage Haha! Don't forget about the little people while on top of the coin pile!! 🤣🤣
How do you deal with insects and such?

@@coltonwancho6571 what teaches you this toxicity ?
You could option for a small hiking tent instead of the poncho. It might be a little cramped for room but it would remedy the concerns.

In a future video I can show the bowline
This setup is not bear proof at all.
😂😂 imagine the raccoon access 🦝
Gets a thumbs up for the super gay thumbnail alone.
