Absolutely great pal. Bought the exact same repair kit for my daughter but hadn't a clue which way the grommets went on or which way the pins went in. Just completed the repair and works a treat. I'm now a hero for the day. Many thank for posting from the UK 👍👍
Great video. Had same problem. Parts a bit expensive here in Australia but took me 30 minutes to repair. No previous experience with auto electrics. Thanks again.
I was having same issue. I was keep getting left brake light malfunction light on off daily. Just got it fixed following this video! Thanks man! Parts cost $78 from BMW dealer
Thanks for the vid, depinned all but the brown wire and fitted new pin to that in my F31 (rear left), with a replacement bulb holder everything now works a treat
Feels nice doing the work yourself too, right? And most people know so little about anything about fixing stuff these days (from auto to home) that you can fool them into thinking you’re really smart or handy when you actually suck at it. lol
I saw your video but didn't exactly have your issue, I figured I'd use some MAF sensor cleaner right on the connecting pins. Worked just fine and got rid of the annoying brake light malfunction.
Great job. But you could probably get away with only fixing the one bad cable from the existing connector. After taking out that purple plastic fixator. Just push down that triangular outstanding metal piece with a micro srewdriver and pull the cable out of the connector. That triangular bit acts as a barb. If you did that you only needed to replace the head of that one cable
Bruh, loving your videos. I just got my f30 335i a few days ago and I have already had this little issue! Thanks so much for taking the time to film and post up all your vids. New sub 🤙🇦🇺
Thanks for the video. I had the same problem, but the wires were fine in my car. I just had to replace the bulb holder assembly, because the connection on both the holder and bulb became badly pitted.
Thanks! I removed the two screws holding the tail light assembly, but the assembly did not come off easily. I wasn't sure if there is something else holding the assembly to the car body. Now I know that I just need to give it a bit more brute force to yank the assembly off.
Just in case anyone is thinking of doing this I bought the same exact kit and he told us to but the Bulb holder was a triangle shape and not the same one that was used in the video. Unfortunately I can’t return it. So I’m out $50. Yes, I understand it’s a mistake on my end I should’ve looked at the bulb holder that was for my 2013 328i. but I was unaware it mattered until the very end of my labor. Lol. I did test my break light and it works but going to need to order a new holder and I am good to go.
You don’t have to splice all the wires. Just de-pin the original connector, insert the wires into the new connector and splice the new ground. I also have to do this in mine, but I’m taking the opportunity to also upgrade to lci taillights 👍🏻
@@VaderD I don’t remember off hand. There is a pin or clip of some sort holding the connector together. It should be obvious while you’re looking at it.
So I have this same issue, I get the message saying “Right brake lamp malfunction” however when I press on the brakes both brake lights come on, left and right do you think maybe I just need to reset the code ? It’s a 2009 bmw 328i sedan
I actually had that same issue on my 2009 328i also. I ended up just coding the voltage check to be deactivated with BimmerCode. That gets rid of the warning light. But I after awhile I did notice there are actually 2 brake light bulbs and one of them is indeed out. It's just not very noticable. I still have yet to replace the bulb to see if it works properly.
Hey, how long did this fix work for you, because I bought the holder new and my light is still doing the same thing , so Im wondering if i should just do it your way
Ok thanks needed to see something i was unsure about in the process but broooo you should get open barrel terminal crimpers … the way you crimped those gave me anxiety and its unsafe for live wires to be crimped so sloppy if they come loose then it could be fire or a short that fry’s something…
Is there a specific reason you had bought both the socket panel and the harness from two different Websites .The First link where the harness is also provides a socket panel i seen as in is one better then the other or ?
Oh its cause I actually got the repair kit from my BMW dealership. I just wanted to put a link and ESC Tuning was the other site that offered the repair kit. FCP euro didn't offer the repair kit only the bulb holder. Both of those websites are reliable for parts though
can someone please respond I have 2020 bmw 328i and the screw connected to my brake light is stripped which i think is causing it to show on dash, I replaced 2 days ago and its been perfectly fine til a slam on breaks today which caused it to snap somebody please tell me
For this particular issue, no because the problem is in that connection piece I repaired in the video, it powers the taillight. If the connection piece is damaged, aftermarket taillight will still have issues.
I have an F31 and the rear right brake light does not work, there is no error on the instrument panel, the fuses are correct, the bulbs are also correct, what can be
Bruh my rear light problem is the same as yours and for some reason the light bulb melts onto the metal part the bulb touches. Which made the problem on top of that problem lol. So now I have to do it with this way. Hopefully it works for me too!
I did this to my f30 everything was fine for a couple of months now every time I step on brake it won't turn on. Checked the wires and nothing is burnt everything is fine any ideas much appreciate 🙏
Can anyone confirm whether this will also fix a rear indicator fault? My connector looks the Sam but I am getting the brake light and indicator faults…
Because a metal piece from the bulb holder melted off inside the connection piece that I repaired. So it still wouldn't work even after you repaired the connector since the connection on the bulb hold is missing a metal piece inside where they connect together.
I’ve done this before and now 4 years later I gotta replace it again 😡. This shouldn’t be happening, seems like it’s some type of short but maybe that’s just bmw idk

@Inline Six Auto thank you for this DIY repair kit I never thought I can do this by myself I just did mine today great video bro
glad I could help!
Thank YOU so much for this video! Straight forward and helpful! I was able to replace on my own with help from your video.
Hello, thank you for the video, very helpful. One quick question, do you know if the dealer repairs it the same way?
dude thanks, i had my shop repair one side and now the other burned out...now i will do it myself
How much they charge you?

is the inner bulb used for 2nd stage brake? if yes, are the two bulbs the same type, or are they different?
they're two bulbs in the bulb holder and they are the same if thats what you're asking
What’s the repair kit called….tail light repair kit? I’m going to try to order online.
You can get it from here www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/rep-kit-for-socket-housing/61132359993/
having the same issue on my 335i, it would pop up occasionally then it goes away. Do U think I need to get it fixed now or can it wait ?
You should just check your connection point in your tail light and see if the same thing happened to yours
Had same issue. When I squeezed the connectors really hard the bulb would turn on that, but sadly my arm isn’t 20 feet long
How much was the bulb holder and where you buy it ?
I bought the kit from a bmw dealership and the blue and green piece u used didn't come with. Can I still do it without it?
Yes you would need those pieces. I would take it back if you can question them about those pieces since it should come with the kit
Would this cause a battery discharging while stopped message in the dash ?
I dont think so
After doing this.. will the tail light malfuntion still come on in the dashboard? and the parts from FCP says incompatible for 328i?
The malfunction light will go away if done correctly. I would just get the repair kit at your local BMW dealership. It’ll still be only like $20.
Does this fit on a 2015 328i?
I clicked on the website and it says it doesn’t but it seems as if a lot of people are using this one for the 328i’s
It should still fit, you should have the same tail lights

Mines needs to be smacked and it turns on do you think it would be a similar issue?
I would take your tail light out and check the connection to see if the same thing happened to yours.
Please, Where the plug kit and bulb holder can be purchased? Y have the same problem in a 118d model
you can buy at your local BMW dealership
Did you disconnect the battery first?
I did not
Why does my break light work and signals but the light when driving at night one is off and one is on when driving regular 😅??
Would this work on my 2013 BMW 328i Drive because on FCP Euro it says that it does not fit my vehicle
If you have the same tail lights it will work
Quick question bro did u disconnect ur battery or u just did it with the car off
I left the battery connected. you can disconnect if you want.
Great video! You did a really good job!
Hey! Great video, thanks for the help. One quick question:
Must I unplug the cars battery before cutting the wires? Thanks!
You can if you want to be safe. I didn’t and nothing happened.

Does the BMW dealership sell the repair kit if you didnt purchase the car thru them ?
They should still sell it to you if you didn’t. I didn’t buy mine from the dealership I went to buy the repair kit.
