That is a great shop, since I’m from LA I’ve been there a ton of times. People there are friendly and knowledgeable, especially for Saltwater. They have so much good stuff.
Unfortunately shops like that are very rare, the few that were really old school are now closed either cause Tackle warehouse killed them or the owners past away. The four I use to go to all closed down even Sav on tackle, they used to have 3 shops now they only have the one you went to. The negative aspect of having online shopping. When the Owners pass no one around to take over or simply can’t compete. I was able to buy Worms that hadn’t been made since the 80’s and 90’s And every one Locally made. Robo worms just took over. I was buying Robo worms for over 30 years now so I remember when the Robo zipper worm came and dominated. Ive bought OG lews speed sticks Shimano made Lews speed reels Gary Klein’s weapons hooks, jigs with Vinyl skirts and so much more but those shops are now gone. Thinks that’s why I love when you visit old shops around the states cause we simply don’t have that anymore unless found by sheer luck
The world needs 1 of these old type fishing stores in every city ! I could live in their ! And the young gentleman helping you is a antique!! Cuz the younger generation only plays video games ! And they dont work ! Great video man !
I guess Roger wasn't there. Good to see you get to experience the area I grew up in. That shop has been around forever. I'll fill you in on more later. Great video!!
Looks like a great store! The last few years I always hit the independent shops before online or Bass Pro. I always find stuff that is not everywhere as well as local made baits too. SoCal is lucky to have this gem!
I live in LA but I'm moving in 2 months to Tennessee. The one thing I like about this area is the wall mart and sporting goods stores have horrible selections so the a bunch of these privately owned bait shops around that are awesome. I like supporting independent shops
Great lookin store! I'm almost done putting together the redemption tackle kit for ya lol I just added a bait that should make you "Dance" 😜 Cheers fella!
@@RetroBassin lmao well the short answer is its something I came up with a long time ago when ide do burnouts in my camaro ide call it Givin er the garlic 🤣 it's a fun way to say balls to the wall 😜
Always a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Keep up the great content man, we have to get you to 10k, then 20, then 50, then 100. You have the content, that's for sure. Hit that like button folks, let's get Chris where he should be!!!!
You can tell what kind of experience you are going to have the first few seconds in a tackle shop. These folks were all about helping and educating customers. So cool!
Awesome vlog all you needed to do is have PVC tube put the rods in it and cap the ends would have made it back fine and that tackle box was a great price 👍catch you next time
Dude, you've GOT to start planning for these wicked fun trips and discoveries. It would break my heart to find an old tackle shop like that one and not be able to take home a few rods. BTW, I've got that first rod you showed (or I should say my dad had it, it's mine now) - we used it and others like it salmon fishing in Lake Michigan many years ago. Maybe you could find a postal supply store when you hit a town and pick up a long cardboard tube and packing materials and mail a rod or two to yourself. Just a thought. Excellent episode!
Also, I love how the folks there have a full service shop. That's kind of rare these days. You could tell that the young man helping you knew his stuff and was passionate about it.
A retro I know it's not very old school but you have ever thought of getting an inflatable paddle is it an inflatable paddleboard and maybe a modern travel rod Something you can check on the plane or Chuck in the truck if you drive-in If you get a chance to go fishing you'll have it and plus because it's newer stuff it doesn't matter if it gets torn up so much cause they're still making it and it's replaceable
There should be a National Fishing Lure Historian, and it should be you. Either that or an Ambassador to Bass Pro Shops. Let me know when you want to record for the Lure Love Podcast!
Aaaw man ..Retro, yur from the chesepeake area????? Me too sir..little lower these days but we go striper and flounder fishing in the bay fairly often .. We catch flounder the size of a serving platter fairly regularly
Ahhh a bit north from me in VA... originally Hampton roads area. But, been in Richmond a while. But oh man .. the trips to the Bay.... Kinda what got me back into fishing again about a yr or 2 ago. That's and my marine buddy ...he got me hooked ( no pun intended) on Bass fishing. And I'm certain he's gunna get me on other species too.
@@patricktrous I always figured rootbeer is brown, motor oil is that greeny red (more green than red). I bet Sav-On has a couple rootbeer scampis around, never heard the bubbles theory (I like it) but the Scampis always had the flake back in the day. Calico bass killer

oh you found nice tacklebox !
Thank you, Teiji!
Such a cool shop-I wouldn’t be able to fly after buying a bunch of those loose swimbaits, hahah.
You shoulda seen the looks I got walking through the airport with that Bass Tamer!
Saturday morning fishing show!
Yeah, buddy!
I love how Hotel California starts playing in the background as you struggle with buying the Lews one piece rod. Many lyrical parallels to be drawn.
Man, was hoping that didn’t get the video demonetized! But yeah, you can check out any time you like but you can never leave….

❤Omg, you visited my childhood tackle shop!
That's the same time card punch my dad had in his automotive shop till last year when it finally died. Glad to see others still using it
You know the Tackle shop is old school when they have one of those!
Man. That's one hell of a shop. Certainly a dying breed. I just don't see many places like that anymore. Not just fishing related, but in general.
Truly a gem! Think I need to go back and meet Bob…
Great job.
Cool shop and sweet carry on grab!
DANG Retro.... You scored on that tackle box. I'd luv that thing great for bank fishing on my river

I need to make it back there and sit down with the man himself!
You scored on some of that tackle and definitely on that old school tackle box. Love that old Brown & Orange!
Matches my boat!
$14 for that tackle box is a steal! That’s a fraction of what it would go for on eBay. Great find 👍🏼
They gave it to me for $10!
From what I saw on the video i could spend all day, and all my money, in there.
Welcome to California, where we have millions of anglers and virtually no public water to fish

That was an amazing tour. What a great store with a very proud family running it. What a gem of a video that made my morning. Thanks 😊
Very glad I could capture a little bit of their passion, but I definitely need to go back!

Those Aat worms go way back to the late 80s i knew of several local mom & pop shops that carried them in southern nj
