I would say the best Band there has ever been ...worldwide ! A Band in the truest sense of the word . No front man hogging all the limelight and plaudits . It was a sideman mentality of whom each member was inspired by every other member's playing and singing . Their musicality was in another stratosphere from everyone else and the amount of other groups who were inspired by The Band is enormous . RIP Mr Robbie Robertson , the architect like no other .

Many of those will deny this when called out, yet refer to Levon as “THE” lead vocalist, (there were 3️⃣), because of their bias. The Weight & especially, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, are typically their favourites, overlooking a staggering canon of classics. Listen to the music, allow its roots and ambience seep through and you will have your answers. The question is could there bear an Americana genre without The Band.
Or they can see it the literal way there's North America Central America and South America and all of us are part of that overall America. United States of America basically has no name for it certainly does not own the name America

Except that The Band was 80% Canadian. Levon was the only American, from small-town Arkansas.
I really think Graham, and most musicians, use "American" in a tenor that comprises the entire North American ethos.
