- This is a mod that I implemented to my Pelican Bass Raider 10e which allows a 3d printed shim(s) to be placed inside between the upper and lower deck of the hull after drilling with the hole saw. The purpose of the shim is allow the scupper drain, after insertion, to be properly secured when tightened down by drain nut and not deform the hull surfaces..

Other video's show adding the drain without the shim. Those video's looked like a disaster in the making. I wasn't comfortable doing that to my boat. Then finally I came across this video showing the use of a shim, and how to make a shim that will easily go in through the hole between the two layers and fit snug. Now feeling much more at ease with drilling that dreaded hole into the bottom of my Boat. Without a shim to stop the flexing and possible leaking I wasn't about to drill that hole. Seeing it done correctly is a game changer. Thanks for the video.

For those wondering, I purchased the shim directly from him (not sure if he still does this) but was incredibly easy to install. One end of the shim is pointed and one is rounded. By inserting the ROUNDED end in first, simply twisting sideways the shim popped into place flawlessly.
I also purchased his paddle holders. Unfortunately one accidentle run into a tree and they are done for haha
Thanks for the creative solution! I have a Field & Stream Angler, and havent drilled the hole yet so I went with 8 of the thin shims in case my boat has a bigger or smaller gap (and in case I lose 1 or 2 to the inside of the boat 😅)

I put the scupper in as well but Marine silicone and tighten to a good snugged fit ,so far no worries , marine silicone Everytjing you do ,every screw you put in the hull , I've been very limited in what I have done so far , when Rigging it out it's almost impossible to do without some penetrations but I'm keeping it as limited and using the silicone on everything , so far so good
I agree! Use marine sealant whenever possible especially when there are screws or holes involved. 😊👍
Where can u buy the shim for pelican scupper drain install?
great video.. i have wondered about the gap since I decided I needed a drain of some sort on the 10E i just bought..Others have mentioned not to tighten to much as there is a gap between top and bottom..Your video is the first to address that gap..I went to the site you mentioned to get one but at 80 yrs old the tech train has left the station without me..Is there anyway i can specify the one like you got?? I think i can manage the 5 1/8th thick ones..any help would be appreciated..have a great day...jb

Outstanding, I've always been tormented by the issue of how to fill the space between! What was the purpose of leaving so much protruding on the underside?

Which one would you recommend, thin or thick? The thick didn't look too bad to install.

Hey whats your thoughts on using a one way scupper drain.
Not needed in my opinion. I don't even use the drain plug that I purchased for my scupper drain.
what size is the scupper drain itseif.
The inside diameter of the scupper drain that I used is 5/8".
Do you still make and sell shims? Very interested in in purchasing if you are.

For the same reason they didn’t make the sides deep so you stuff doesn’t fall out Canadian manufacturing… who knows they saved a buck
Instead of buying a 3 d printer how about expanding foam, redrill hole if necessary 💁
Hi Patrice! If done correctly, expanding foam is definitely better than having nothing at all between the top and bottom of the hull floor and should work just fine in my opinion. Also, as a side note, there is no need to purchase a 3d printer these days as there are many online 3d print services available that can create the parts for you if you have the stl file such as craftcloud3d.com ( my recommendation ). 😊👍
