I'm 67 years old. I bought a KDX 200 in 1984 new. I still have a blast on it ! Granted I don't ride it as long or hard as I did when I was still racing but, it still tickles me in the right places. Took a lot of finger pointing and chuckles from some "kids" last time on the starting line at a hare scramble. Then I roosted their asses to a 30 yard holeshot! How do you like me now? Hahaha love my antique!!!!

You still have the KDX200 you bought in 1984? Damn! That's awesome man, good that you still ride hare scrambles, I've only been riding my KDX200 2003, for a little more than a year now, it was my first motorcycle and it's such a fun bike, and has plenty of power for what I need it, people always come to me when I'm unloading it at the Enduro tracks, always hear good things about it!

I got an 86 last year not running and had the carb ran through and then I got busy with other stuff. The bike sat for a year and I never got too it until two days ago lol, mixed up some gas and threw it in the bike and thought well hear goes nuthin', on the second kick I actually got fire kicked her again and she lit up LoL, just about......my pants. I rode her around for about half an hour now I'm all ready to go racin' LoL, only problem is it's April here in Arizona and I'm wishin' I would of got that wild hair back about mid October, but man what a fun old bike, the thing rips when ya want it too and can just purr along when it needs too

Absolutely love my '89. It's a way better bike than I am a racer. You'd probably be faster on a 250/450 but the kdx does exactly what you want and nothing that you dont.

It's a KDX, of course it's still kicking ass. I bought my 1st KDX new in 1988, and I still have it and ride it. It's plated., A white 88 KDX 200. Plus I have 2 more 88s and a 06.Long live the KDX. Ride safe my 2 wheel friends

I got one for $1500 and runs perfect! Just needed new hand controls and a rear tire with actual grip. According to my friend, who has raced IXCR on multiple old and new ktm’s. “This thing handles the gnarly stuff better than any bike I’ve ridden. Yes, even better than my 2018 ktm 250xc.”

I used my street-legal 1993 KDX250SR as a city commuter bike for years, racking up 60,000kms on the engine before needing to do any bottom-end work as such. Still got the bike with 65,000kms on the dial. It sits for months with no battery to worry about, and then bursts into life with a couple of kicks.

20+ years ago, Someone talked me into getting rid of my CR 125 and getting a KDX 200. I went from amateur to expert in 1 year. It was an incredible bike for the time. Just had to keep the power valves changed regularly and it would run like a B. That being said, I love my KTM 300

  • @TheLostSquadron

I bought a used 89 KDX200 when I got back into riding after 5 years away. After a year, I thought it was holding me back and replaced it with a 93 CR250.
I was *WAY* faster on the KDX. Just like you said, it has just enough power to ride it like you hate it or lug through the slow stuff without beating you up.

I fucking LOVE LOVE LOVE my 2003 KDX 200. I decided to buy one partially because of this channel here. Now I've owned it for about 3 or 4 years and I still love it and ride it all the time. Incredibly versatile offroad dirt bike. The combination of great luggable, low-speed, low-RPM rideability and explosive top end makes it so damned versatile and easy to go have fun, no matter where you ride or what type of riding you feel like. It's super luggable because of the wide-ratio transmission, the fact that 2-strokes can just run really slow, plus the really short 1st gear means you can almost pick your way through technical sections at walking speed. So fucking versatile. Oh also: buy the front and rear Tusk gummy hybrid tires. Get rid of those hard-compound, motocross-style tires. The Tusk's are durable, long-lasting, truly gummy and give great traction on every type of surface, and are designed to be run at VERY low tire pressure. They're also dirt cheap compared to the equivalent Golden Tyre brand I've also used in the past. They also don't chunk even running on sharp lava rocks all the time. Amazing tires. I run around 8 PSI front and around 9PSI rear, along with heavy duty inner tubes.

Me and my son have been watching your videos for nearly a year now. We have been restoring some old KDX's the past few months. I have an 89 200, (2) 94 200s and a 2002 220. The 220 has become my primary bike as of recently. We are originally from California and lived 20 minutes from Glen Helen, never knowing they held events like this. We are thinking of either shipping a bike, or buying a bike out there, flying out for these endurance races this next year. Will see if we can work that out. March this year was our first hard enduro we raced together, both on some heavy 4 strokes. after then we realized we used the wrong tools for the job. since then I been picking up KDXs that come for sale. We live in Hawaii so most of what we find is absolutely hammered. If you ever find your way to Hawaii we should meet up at Kahuku, I have a KDX I would be glad to let you can hammer on.

They kdx has a nice light ass end and a planted front end, great for swinging the rear around wherever you want to go. They are a blast, they make really good use of the power that they have and have good power, they are light and agile and still have good torque for the enduro riding.

I love that bike, starts first kick, makes a good rider even better and they are, in my opinion the best woods bike out there. Hey Gabe! I’ve been a longtime fan of TTM, pretty much since it switched from frickin’ Jim. I have no idea who else to go to for this because you seem like a pretty expert garage mechanic. My bike (a 2009 crf250r) has had a problem where I kickstart it, it revs up to about 5k rpm and stays there and backfires. I can only control the revs with the kill switch. I replaced the intake boot thinking that it was an air leak and that didn’t solve the problem. I’ve gone through the carb twice and everything seems to be in good condition. What do you think the problem could be?

    • @TortureTestMagazine
      @TortureTestMagazine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

First be 100% sure it's not a leak of any kind. Exhaust, head to carb, carb to airbox, entrances to carb like the hot start plunger, enrichment circuit plunger, fuel screw, gaskets to the outside of the carb, as well as the condition of the slide (they can simply wear out and start leaking unmetered air past them instead of running it through the venturi). If that's all good, make sure nothing is blocked off that shouldn't be blocked off. Float valve, jets, passages beyond the jets, air jets, passages after the air jets. If it's not that, check the timing and valve clearance and make sure it's all good. Try unplugging the throttle position sensor and see if that changes it. This also can happen when the valves are just not sealing so do a compression test. Beyond that, I wouldn't know what else to look at

The WR's suspension is also way more stiff than the KDX's. The KDX's steering is also way more "loose" than the WR's, making it easier to handle in tight trails. Have the JD kit and have tried to adjust for high elevation (desert SW region) but still getting a hard stumble when cracking the throttle. Need to pull it back out and visually verify the pump timing etc.

@@thematerwelon178 Funny but I’m 48yr and I have an 01 KDX 220 with pipe and suspension upgrades. Bought my son now 17yr a really nice 2007 wr250f. So I’ve ridden them back to back many times. The suspension on the Yamaha is better for sure, even with Racetech upgrades on my KDX. Top speed is also 10-15mph faster on the wr. However, we ride ditches and trails in northern MN and I’ll still take the KDX every time! I’ve owned since new land never even had to do a top end yet. Still rips! Phenomenal bike 👍🏻

@@KestrelYI my buddy fixed his by adding an accelerator pump kit. it was the first small bore modern 4 stroke i ever rode that could wheelie over things like a 2 stroke.

@@honusbigtime591 love that story! but please do the top-end BEFORE you need to. and while its cheap to do so. a blown piston can wreck the power valves etc.

anybody who has owned a kdx200 knows how dead reliable they are. they do not care what you do to it. they dont overheat, they dont lose power, they always start, they just plain dont care.
