Willierob Roggz let me tell you a very brief story about my luck with water, my local course has hole 1 and 9 parallel with eachother, nice little pond on hole 1, completely dry on hole 9, i found that little pond on hole 1 last time i played… whilst teeing off on the 9th 🤣🤦♂️ thats about 35 yards off line and finds a little 15foot pond over the trees, unbelievable🤣 i mean the water was out of sight and out of mind and i still got it in there😂
@@georgep7925 water has mass roughly 1kg per litre, that means depending upon the quantity of water in the hazard it 100% has a gravitational pull. That's what I tell myself anyway as an excuse for being 💩
Sound advice Matt once again thanks. I really wish I’d watched this before my round yesterday as it would have helped me focus a little bit more - I hit 94 but have managed to bring my scores down from 100+ so I do feel I’m making progress at least!
Excellent tips! Thanks to your tips for on course management Matt, I shot my lowest score this week of 85. I’ve found myself hitting my 4 iron off the tee on most par 4’s under 400 yards.
Great stuff as ever Matt, particularly regarding the use of the sand wedge. I do think though that over water, taking a 4 iron off that tee is more likely to be the choice of a more confident and accomplished player than someone trying to break 90. It is a driver for me every time!
Matt, I'm hitting my wedges better than ever from your instruction! Your suggestion to pick on and try different shot types (opened up high shot, more upright low shot, etc.) and wow am I having fun with it! Thanks for the great advice!
I think it was in _Every Shot Counts_ where I read that you have a total of 6 terrible shots to work with if you have a hope of breaking 90. A penalty counts for 2 (stroke and distance), a duff counts for 1 etc. Awesome awesome book for course management.
I broke 100 a few times last year, I’m aiming for 90 this year. The best tip I received is get good at 100-120 yards, and get your ball there in one or two shots. After that it’s learning to lag putt and pretending every bogey is a par (72+18=90). Turning every par 5 into a par 6 has transformed my game into something that looks respectable on a card.
@@diogeneslantern18 you should be trying to “birdie” them under this system. They’re good opportunities for “catching up” to your new par. But if part of your problem is trouble off the tee, or topping long irons or woods, you can still give yourself an up and down 5 on a par 5 playing a 7 iron for the first 3 shots. When you’re a high handicapper minimizing risk is more important than striving for a certain number. Hit clubs you’re comfortable with even if they add a stroke, because the ones you aren’t good with will add more.
You are spot on with the 6ft putt problem, everyone i play with says im brilliant with the putter from 20ft plus! I feel so confident getting it in gimme range, 6 foot putt i line the ball up feeling like im gonna miss it
Great video Matt! I set a goal of breaking 95 this summer and just shot a 94, so now it's time to break 90! Embracing the short game is where I'm at now.
So can I break 90 by swinging to 9 o clock. Has I'm going back to basics. I'm playing tomorrow so will test this I've broken 100 no more than 3 times so this should be interesting
Been playing two months playing alot and putting in a ton of work and I couldn’t break 100. Left my driver at the house and damn near broke 90 with a 92 (with two drops). Hybrid off the tee. Accurate and consistent as can be. No wicked slice. Played every fairway. Do whatever it takes.
Breaking 90 was easy I just played 45 holes a day for six days in a row. At the end of the week I shot an 82 on a course I was playing for the first time. I shot even par for the first time after playing two plus rounds a day for three weeks.
so my goal right now isnt 100 but breaking 50 for 9 holes. but i just bought a set of clubs that are extended because im 6'4 but not exactly fitted and now i have a horrible problem of thinning every single shot no matter what. Ive tried every adjustment i can but i always end up in the same problem. ive hit a 52 about 4 times now but i know i could easily cut minimum 5 strokes if i could get past this issue.
Don’t let anybody scare you away from the bump and run. Pros use it every tournament. It’s just as much of a weapon as a perfect flop shot if you can use it well
It could be 92 to 102…but then there was the 88. He’s nailed these points, although off the tee I MAY still hit driver simply because I have more confidence in it than a long iron which in my case would actually be a 7 wood. Sure I know I can hit a shorter shot that has a higher probability of being a tighter dispersion, but still no guarantee it’s staying on the planet. Quality of strike issues just like his anecdote on the approach shot. Approach still kills me…Par 3 tee shots are “approach shots” that usually frustrate me. Too many double bogeys from 150-180. Otherwise I don’t hit very many greens in regulation. My guess is improved approach shots will be the key to take 90 down to 85 or lower. Right now I’m still trying to get the ball closer to the hole with a club that leaves the ball on the same golf hole. The short game and putting are practice, practice, practice away from the course. I’ve been leaning on the 54 degree wedge. Sprinkle in some reps with the 46, 50, and 58 to see how things differ. Way more confidence when I force myself to get comfortable with the wedges. May not give it enough or may give it too much, but the ball gets duffed and scalded less often. Speed control on putting. Some of the 6 to 12 footers will randomly fall or result in a reasonable 2nd putt from a foot. My first legit break 90 was an 88 on a par 70, but it included a lost ball, a water hazard and a few hooked/slices drives. Mentally most of my poor shots felt playable, but it was easy to accept “recover back to the fairway” over trying the hero shot in a few situations..
All of these “break 90” videos Operate under the assumption that all of us trying to do it are just awful at golf. I cant be the only person like me that’s watching these videos that is actually a pretty skilled player that just hasn’t put a round together yet. I know that I’m skilled enough to break 90 and maybe even 85, but I always have at least 2 or 3 holes that are triples or worse. It’s heartbreaking tbh
I think it would be helpful to show the audience how to get out of trouble and still break 90. Most likely if you’re trying to break 90 there will be a bad drive or two to deal with.

My golf partner likes to add up scores after 9 and during the last few holes. I try to walk away from him and ignore his tabulations. I don't want to know the score, just the next shot.
Just stop duffing those second shots, shall we? I went single plane swing, basically taking the hands out of the swing and finally making reliably consistent contact. Gotta find what works for you...
So, basically, stop driving in the water, stop duffing my irons, get better with my wedges, stop missing short putts, and stop psyching myself out. If only 😂😂

My dear: Would it be possible to create a few "break ninety" for women and seniors: We don't drive 220. We don't have a 4-iron. Those who do, shut up.
For a lot of people trying to break 90 or 100 the pond 10 yards in front of you is in play too….. trust me🤦♂️🤣
I was thinking this.
just keep telling yourself "no water hazard" over and over!! hahaha

Great advise today Matt. Course management is key.
Another fantastic lesson. I like that you intermingle the mental game with the physical game in your lessons.
Great content Matt, simple, well presented and you are not shouting UNBELIEVABLE at me every 2 seconds!
Great advice
Spot on every point so important
Great tips Matt! Thanks.
This is excellent information Matt.
Pretty much described me this year. Good job
Hit 89 shots, then regardless of what hole you're on, walk off.
Beautiful commentary! Spot on!
Such practical, doable tips, many thanks!
Great channel.
Great video, Matt
Really good informative video 👍
Keep up the good work Matt. I broke 90 today with an 86 off 15.2. Included 4 one puts one of which was birdie. Thanks
I originally found your channel through Peter Finch’s channel but I gotta say, that’s some sound advice! Great content Matt, keep it up!

Agreed, I've been playing a year, I'm in my early 50s. As far as I can see most people can only hit a driver about 200yds on a good day.
Thanks great advice. I am knocking on the door on getting in the 80s best recently was a 90 . Hopefully these tips will help me 😀👌
Great lesson on course management, currently shooting mid-90’s so this reinforces where I need to focus to regularly be below 90.
That's the best looking fairway I've ever seen.
Good ideas. Thank you.
Glad you like them!

Well starting on the 4th hole (like in this video);I will definitely break 90 easily!

Par 3s are really holes you should be trying to par. But I understand the psychology of "bogey" par.
Edit: par 5s..

Did I miss the drone flying over to show the hazards? Still enjoy the course management tips
Tip #2 is me all day long, great drive....and then I screw up my second shot every time on a par 5 or a long par 4
Looking forward to a break 80 tips 👍🏻😎
Coming soon!
Thanks for the putting tip. Confidence in the shorter putts has been my biggest problem. A putt left short has 100% chance of not going in.
Tip #2 is my nemesis! Too many times the poor second shot ends up costing me at least one, usually two more strokes. Tip #5 is also me.
Looking forward to this, I've had 90-93 8 times this season, penalties definitely killing me. 🤦♂️
This will help

As a new golfer having only played a course a few time how far should I be hitting my clubs? I struggle with some of the longer courses I’ve played
As far as possible

Scared of my wedges 😏😁
