Just hit a year with my locs and it was hard waiting for a protective style because I was scared that one before 1 year would impede my progress. Let me tell you that I think my hair can do math because when I washed my hair two days before I hit a year, all the frizzies and loose ends got themselves together and decided to look more like mature locs, so I skipped the protective style. This journey is amazing and if I ever get tired, I will probably be rocking the TWA with razor sharp precision edge ups!
Lol it’s so funny how our Locs struggle for so long and then pull it all together out of nowhere! Lol
They look beautiful, I definitely miss my long braids at times. I also did my braids/twists myself and I put Marley twists over my starter locs once but it barely made it two weeks. Since I started my locs, I’m so much more tender headed and the tension on my scalp felt so much worse than normal with braids. So since then it’s just headwraps or locs out

Me right NOOOW!!! I just got braids on Monday and when I say I’m ready to take them out because my scalp hurts!
I have done this and I was only able to keep them in for about a week and a half. I was worried about the weight on my locs so I keep the braids up in a bun. Eventho it looked very cute I had the worst headache and neck pain and had to take them out to get some release. Good news, my lots were fine.

About how many locs do you have ?
My scalp also hurt after braids for the first time after locking. I think our scalps reset to being tender when we leave them alone for a long time so maybe it's normal
How long did the pain last ?is there anything I can do to reduce the pain?

I can relate I was so nervous when braiding my locs first time as they are just under 1 year.

I got braids over my locs 5 days ago. My head is so itchy, I can't deal with it anymore. Thinking of taking them out.

I have to soak/clean the braiding hair because whatever chemicals they put on the hair before packaging be havin my scalp on FIRE!!!!

I Love each and everyone of your videos Dae🥰 I tried box braids over my locs around 6 months with my current starter locs, I don’t think I will ever do that style again with my locs it thinned out my entire back row, the loc and the root, however I pray that you do not have that problem🙂

A few months ago I tried braiding over my locs, and I took them out a few weeks later. I did notice a couple of locs felt thinner. So, I doubt I will be going in that direction again :(

I put braids over my locs a year ago (they were a year old) and I lost two locs by my temple on both sides. That was a very painful experience. I've finally recovered after a year and contemplating doing them again
Hey! Your Braids look amazing! I installed passion twist over my Locs and it only lasted 1 week. My scalp was tender and itchy. I even tried to condition the hair before I installed it but apparently did not work for me. It also made my Locs dry. I would want to try again when my Locs are more mature. its only been 6 months

I had braids over my locs I took dem out after 3 days cause my scalp was itching so bad lol I was like forget this so I may try again when I get a year i did that at 5 months
Yeah like that 4 th day it stops itching but mine was the same way
Yours look so good! Mine are amazing but I can’t take it anymore. It’s so heavy and it’s still hurting a week and a half later. I try to put it in a bun and I feel like ima fall over cause it’s just so heavy. I have 91 locs and my hair is relatively thick so idk. I got really long braiding hair (50inches so I guess after braiding it’s about 25) and I think I shoulda got a shorter length. My locs bust out the braids often too 🤦🏾♀️
Freetree has clean therapy hair. It’s rinsed in acv (and no it doesn’t smell like it) I ordered mine from wigtypes.com and it was 3.99 a pack and each pack has 3 bundles. And it is also stretched hair

That style looks great. Do you plan on growing your locs indefinitely or do you think you'll cut them at a certain length?
I've kept my hair short for many years because of maintenance. Now I'd like to grow my locs but I worry about heaviness. When my hair is soaked in the shower, it already feels kind of heavy and it's only shoulder length.
I plan on growing mine out for yearssss atleast until my babies are grown lol they can get heavy but that’s why we have to make sure we keep them as light as possible with little to no product

Idk I recently did a bob wig over mine. Been locked for over a year and it was refreshing to switch things up for a change. We can love our locs and still choose to experiment with different hair styles. Don't hold us to a different standard than women with loose hair. It's just hair at the end of the day.
