Wow just heard this...john Sykes meets the Beatles and the Eagles...and thin lizzy... Yet is still all his own.. I see why he has no faith in the music industry..this is very impressive it shows he can change it up ..🎼
Briliant composer. Coverdale lost his best Whitesnake guitarist without seriuos reason.
The reason was Sykes was starting to outshine Coverdale. The work was done on the Whitesnake album, Sykes would have gotten too much recognition as the talent he is.
COVER PLANT Got jealous about Sykes since rockin in rio 1985.Without Sykes skills Whitesnake would ever made in USA.

Whitesnake died the death once Sykes was not in the band, Slip of the Tongue was a joke of an album and only a shadow of the album 1987 is, one of the dumbest decisions ever to let Sykes go, and Coverdale screwed over all fans by never making an album with the Sykes / Powell / Murray line up he had at his disposal, what an utter waste.
They even lost their best singer...
He should be sitting in the front row of any greatest guitarists poll, how come I've never saw him among those famous names. Thanks for the post.

Pure Genius JOHN & PHIL
First of all I think Coverdale was intimidated by John Sykes and there was no room for two superstars in that band. He complained about John being to "metal", but he was also very young when he made those white snake records ( which just happen to have the best Whitesnake songs ever on them!) I'm sure if he wanted John to tone down his guitar sound a little bit he would have done it or at least he would have done it eventually. Let's face it, that self-titled album was gigantic, and a lot of it had to do with John's gigantic sound and songwriting Talent. Love John Sykes, always have and I always will. And it was nice to hear Phil singing 1 track on this record. He's a man that John has always had immense respect for, and so have I. Really wish he was still alive. Rest in peace Philip lynott! And Long Live John Sykes🤘🖤🤘

This is John Sykes’s most candid, emotional revelation of what is experienced when love lies bleeding. It may have no connection at all but 2 years after this album was made John got divorced. Just sayin’

These songs are good - amazing guitar work - but because every track on the album is not dissimilar in feel and sentiment, it's like wading through treacle.
This is just my opinion ,I think it would've been better to have a couple of these songs interspersed amongst other harder edged songs on other albums.
I suppose the title 'Love land' was indicative of the content....
But I still think that John Sykes is incredible.

John used Phil Lynott's original vocal on this one. It's amazing how much you notice John's own vocal is influenced by Phil when listening back to back.

@WAYNE FG I didn't expect a full album of mopey she left me songs, but he still has the tone, and can still play. I just can't listen to this one.
If Phil Lynott could have sang on the hole album(RIP)and not just”Please”this could had been a good album.The lyrics are cheesy and Sykes voice is to wimpy and it doesnt have enough bottom end for this kind of songs.He probably would have sounded much better if he would have had a cold.The guitar playing is good though on certain songs when his not playing to fast because it doesnt fit slow mellow songs like this.
His work on blue murder and white snake are far better. Besides the solos this album is boring
Honestly, his guitar playing is so good. But, his lyrics are straight out of a 14 year-old girl's secret diary, and his vocal affectations are annoying. And, I can't listen to this just for the guitar...like I do Dokken or Winger. It's that awful.
Dusty, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. And honestly; I can't say I disagree with you. But I'm pretty sure John Sykes did this simply because he can. Sykes is a true talent, and can make a record of almost any style. It just so happens that he chose to do this in that moment of his life. It's all good!
I get where you coming from though, most of us would all prefer something more like Blue Murder! No doubt!
