I wish this channel would get more views. Easily the most important in the fragrance community by far. I respect people's tastes, but it makes me thankful that I am of the type of mindframe where I can appreciate the importance of videos like these, and see the value in this sort of information, rather than just mindlessly look for top 10 panty droppers of whatever bottled water mainstream fragrance video any of the more popular channels release. Thank you Dr for your hard work.

Hi Nikil, I recently came across your channel and it’s been a fabulous journey through your oud videos. I myself have been an avid user of oud and bukhoor over the past several years. Truly Middle East is the best place buy oud and your suggestions of shops in Mumbai was a revelation for me, being a Mumbaikar I will visit the shops for Indian ouds on my next visit there. My staple scents are Crassna seoufi, Rouh al Aoud and Charme d’orient; although I do use western perfumes (only parfums) :P which is a sin I commit occasionally. But the ecstasy and the joy of when the oud transformation after applying on your skin cannot be compared to western perfumes...You hv been doing a good work keep it going...Cheers!

What a very informative, thoughtful and educated video. I am a westerner interested in bakhoor and incense fragrances for the home, clothing, personal enhancement and meditation. I have bought my first charcoal burner and a variety of inexpensive bakhoor incenses which, though entry-level, I must say are delightful. I find your video very exciting and am anticipating trying both the subtler and the richer oud aromas that you describe so well here. I like the term "olfactory spectrum" and now realise there is much much more to this than I had previously thought. Thank you also for the caveats, what to watch for when buying, how unscrupuous sellers may "doctor' the oud's appearance. I am researching with a view to a not-so-modest purchase and will investigate the links you have left here. I am saving this video for reference. Thank you again good sir..

Thank you for this lovely and educational video. I just came from Dubai and have been enamored by oud and bakhoor. I have at least a dozen assorted charcoal burning oud burners, but will purchase a ceramic electric one for the precious oud I have. I have been gifted an oud sampler and bakhoor from a sheikha from Ajman, all labeled so I can now appreciate them truly, and have been very careful with burning them as they are so precious and smell so good. You’re right about the strong loud smell of charcoal…I want a more subtle and lingering one. I also like your technique to wait till the charcoal is ashy instead of just hot before putting the oud or bakhoor. I will also buy some mica sheets as I believe that will create a barrier to help the burning slow down.

I am looking to buy some oil, but from my interaction with oud oil traders, it seem like a black box to me.

Also be aware that gaharu buaya or aetoxylon sympetalum is a tree in the same family as Aquilaria and Gyrinops which is the family Thymelaeaceae. It is also called crocodile wood and it is NOT agarwood though it is sometimes used to adulterate oud oils to make them less expensive. It is what white oudh is made from. It smells very bad when burnt. But at room temperature it could smell nice. EDIT: It is usually used to fool people when purchasing beads, it has a light to dark brown color and resin is seen seeping out sometimes, but this is not agarwood. The name gaharu buaya actually means gaharu big lie.

One time, i left a piece on the burner for 2 days, and on day 2, still smell nice.

I found it in the aluminium columns when exchanging it to UpVc which my grandparents had got it installed and I found a feet piece well preserved in a ten feet column strangely when it was getting scraped a labourer wanted that aluminium column and surprisingly there was a wood piece inside. I immediately caught an eye and smelled it and damn that was some sweet fragrance I asked him to take the aluminium and leave the wood once it was breaken into two pieces to get it out of the aluminium column. First I thought it was teak but then when I burnt a small piece and that fragrance is indescribable... I am interested to sell about 150 grams of it . Coz I want people to experience how beautiful the aroma and fragrance it's probably about 40 years old guessing from the time of construction dark brown almost wine like colour.. the aroma is always lurking around in my room

  • @collecter3456

This reminds me of fat wood. Fatwood is created when a resinous evergreen tree dies, and all the resin settles at the bottom. It is quite flammable and is used as a fire starter, but it is also very fragrant. The best is the stuff that is almost translucent with resin. Very nice wood as well, there is a good thrill when finding it on your own in the woods.
