Thank you so much Lara for sharing that with us. A great quote from Anne Staveley, but your own sincerity inadvertently testifies to the validity of the Fourth Way too.
Thank you very much for expressing your appreciation, Pietro. When this work came to me , I immediately knew that it was true, and the sincerity that I express is because of that. As Maurice Nicoll said when he first met Gurdjieff in London , "I have found the pearl of great price". Best wishes, Lara
The work is transmitted by oral methods , person to person. It is the only way it brings genuine results. You won't get much from books. A deep personal experience is required. And this is a verification of the work of the finest kind
"But most importantly letting go of one's false image of oneself." This takes great courage and thorough application of the work. Putting it before all else. As Ms. Staveley says , the work is not about movements , exercises , self-observation et al. These are activities of work , part of the method for work on oneself. Again and again we are told , and again and again we forget.
I attempted a reply but couldn't make it say what I wanted it to. Instead, here are the GREATEST HITS:. For most of my twenties, I was involved in Hatha Yoga & Kung Fu [as well as the Work]. Then Life came along and hit me on the head; over several decades producing the average Health problems for someone my age [now 66]. Six months ago, I commenced a Yoga/stretching regimen; every day [approx. 15 mins/morning + 1 hour/afternoon] without fail [2 sessions missed] - I'm presently about 7kg from my size as a young man. My guess is that in 3 months, I will be back to the size of my twenties. Flexibility in a further 6. What I hope to achieve is unusual for someone my age but the attainment of that goal will inevitably affect the rest of my life. It may also provide the crucible for smaller goals yet to emerge. NEXT: 1-week, 2-week, 4-week tasks + monitoring whether small achievements - getting the machine I am to work right - may produce the side-effect of improving meditation/Work/living in the now! Blah, Blah, Blah! In the end, my advice is simple: Laugh; enjoy your food, try to say Grace [however you express it]; make love; laugh while making love; be childish; hurl yourself at the universe... ...and watch yourself doing all of them. As they say, these days, Peace, OUT.
Hello Lara and Noel Two Rivers Press has just released THE PLAN IS GOOD: SELECTED WRITINGS OF ANNIE LOU STAVELEY and what I have read of it is quite good 👍
via-hygeia.art/aim-and-wish-by-annie-lou-staveley/ This is a superb article. Highly recommended. (We like and benefit from those who had a direct , personal encounter with Gurdjieff. Great that Lara, thank you. As an aside, the name Staveley, as Noel where the place name is😊
Thank you very much, Stephen.
Have a good day,
Lara
Ps. Noel has shown me Staveley, it's in the Lake District
There's a beautiful essay about Mrs. Staveley in the Gurdjieff International Review by Toddy Smyth, a longtime student of hers.
Thank you for the recommendation, I will take a look at that for sure.
All the best,
Lara
