King of the Dead is the second album by the American heavy metal band Cirith Ungol. It was self-produced by the band and released in July 1984 on Enigma Records.
Fucking amazing album. It's cheesy as hell and so over the top but it's not a problem since that's the way it should be. Might be not everyone's cup of tea because of the vocals (I didn't like them at first) but once it grows on you it's the greatest thing. I love this.
You are utterly right. One thing I needed when I heard this album for the first time many years ago was to get use to the vocal which I didn't like at the beginning. But it went quite fast because all the rest was so good that soon afterwards I couldn't imagine this album with any other vocal:)
My band had the good fortune to perform at a venue with with Dio, Iron Maiden, King diamond, Anthrax and Metallica back in 86 in Stockholm......they were awesome....this brings back a lot of good memories.....good guys........had so much fun !!!
Classic metal masterpiece. The bass absolutely cooks throughout, as if it was summoned through a witch's death brew from a massive cauldron. Totally unique.

, This one of a kind album is so fuckin amazing, So Fucking Original so Fuckin Awesome nothing else like it The guitar work of Jerry Fogel on this is beyond excellence and Tim Baker's vocal attack is so fuckin obscure the perfect fit for this album

anyone care to share fantasy authors that inspire them? this album really evokes Elric, Conan etc. That's what i've read but wondering what else may have inspired it...probally Tolkien of course...
There are a surprising amount of people who think this is a new album. Learn your classics, people!
probably the same amount of ppl think this has nothing to do with The lord of the rings :D
These are the new albums!

Much credit to Metal Blade for putting this up here.
Brian Slagel! Not only is he the founder, he's also a fan of great metal!

Cirith Ungol is better than all of those bands (equal to King Diamond, though)
Classic metal masterpiece. The bass absolutely cooks throughout, as if it was summoned through a witch's death brew from a massive cauldron. Totally unique.
What a band...WHAT A BAND !!!
Indubitably.
Proto-power metal, proto-prog metal, proto-doom metal; these guys invented more stuff than Edison!
I've been looking for "new metal music" from the 80's for a long time now and this is finally something different
Bloodfeast
My favorite. Love everything about it. There is no band better than Cirith Ungol
The 21 people that gave a thumbs down probably listen to Winger... Lol! True metal at its finest!
They definitely had their own sound. Great band.
Forget about singing in any traditional sense, Tim Baker's just going for that PURE METAL FEELING

I'm glad not many people know about this, just like Metallica in the early 80s, no radio play or MTV, the way heavy metal should be.
1984. The most influential year for metal that has ever existed.
It's a big one for sure. This, Ride the Lightning, Death and Possessed releasing their first demos, Bathory's first album.
@@NevetsTSmith Powerslave, Defenders of the Faith, Hail to England, Sign of the Hammer...
oh Gosh the live version of Master Of The Pit is really evil!! i fuckin love it!!!
Do you guys have any plans to re-release "Frost and Fire" and "One Foot In Hell" with bonus tracks and Demos? Or DVDs?
I hope so too.
I have one foot in hell it burns,I need to dip it in frost n 🔥......aaahhh
Probably the best album artwork I've seen!
great album then and now
Looks like Robin fighting a lich.
I think it's Elric fighting a lich. You can tell because his sword is spooky.
Killer!, underated classic.

Just picked this one up, fucking amazing album man! lots of extras inside, tabs, in depth song info.... radness.
This was ahead of its time. Its time is Now!
Avante garde way ahead even back in the eighties,
Discovered in 2023. Very Cool!

Always loved this band.
Come on and ride - the black machine!
love that dark fantastic epic and doom))) song " king of the dead "
The eternal masterpiece
Been a fan since the 80's great band. The live tracks are awesome.
King of the Dead is just a hell of a song!
One hell of an album.
Eines der besten Alben, die je gemacht wurden....
Their masterpiece.
He's the hero of the anime!
Will there be an ultimate edition of "One Foot In Hell" and "Frost & Fire" anytime soon too?
Love it, reminds me of the old arena metal bands!
metal masterpiece !
"For as he RULED in LIFE he RULES in death!!!"
Fenriz rules !
Not certain how much I like this band just yet. Will report back in the future after a few listens...

Can't say if it inspired them or not, but the adventures of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser by Fritz Leiber absolutely fit in there.
I'd say definitely Tolkien. Cirith Ungol was a path to Mordor in "The Lord of the Rings".
Michael Moorcock.
Pearly whites behind back drawn lips!
I am of the generation that thinks the cover is Mumra vs Lion-O. Not too old, not too young.
Kind of sounds like if Rush didn't suck and Judas priest.
fuck yeah!
excelente
I'd love to see a Cirith Ungol/Fu Manchu team up concert.

First time listener here. its incredible right? blow my mind...is like sabbath and candlemass and manowar have a children
Older than some parents:)
thanks for nothing
how come the singer sings every song the same way?
Cause he doesnt know how to sing
Shame they went unrecognised, great heavy metal that rivals even iron maiden, merciful fate, dio, judas priest and the rest of the classics
rock on fuckers
