Thanks for your support, it's often dispiriting how much rubbish gets into the rivers, and I can't get all of it, but I generally aim to leave these places nicer than when I arrived.
The wonderful thing about mud-larking videos is you can watch them months or years after they are made and they are just as enjoyable . Thank you for taking the time to pick up the trash as well as the treasure. I think it sends a good message to others to do the same. I have to admit that I found the engine block rather funny but still saw the possibilities for it to become something new . Have a wonderful evening /morning :)
I do know that yes... but what I can do is show to people what is getting into rivers, and those who care can be inspired to do a bit of clean-up too. I've had at least 10 comments saying my videos have done just that. 🙂
Aw, thanks. I do need a warning sometimes, I'm currently all scratched up from foolhardily using a thorn bush as a support while wading on a slippery bit of riverbed.
I subscribe to several British mudlarker's TH-cam channels already but they work almost exclusively on the Thames foreshore. They are quite interesting but your channel has simply enchanted me. Your videos are lovely, beautifully filmed and your narrative is perfect. I have a whole new perspective of England now and I look forward to more of your work, thank you!
Tom Burleigh Hello ,Tom....I watch your lovely , poetic videos in Kingston, Ontario,Canada. You have a very restful voice and a very individual vision and appreciation of the old , worn and beautiful. I am a devoted Anglophile , and enjoy your excursions very much....such beautiful , dreamy places! I too love old bottles and discarded , broken bits and pieces ...witnesses of a previous life and age. Were I to live in a country with such a long and interesting past I would just revel in mudlarking for treasure like you, never knowing what you will uncover next. Happiness, after all, is made of little things! Please keep posting your wonderful videos....I look forward to their relaxing pace after a hectic day! And , of course, thank you.
That is a beautiful place Tom. I bet it’s stunning when the summer comes and all the trees are in full leaf. Thank you for taking me along with you, really enjoyed the walk and seeing all your finds!
I came home after a long night at work to find your wonderful video. The beautiful scenery took my breath away. That along with the sound of the rushing water, your gentle voice and your sense of humor was exactly what I needed! Thank you for letting me tag along on this lovely journey today. Can't wait for the next one! Xx ~Jen
Such a lovely comment, I'm glad to know the things I do are having a relaxing effect. Thanks as ever for being a wonderful part of my TH-cam experience. :)
I love that you take time to share the nature while your hunting. Adding you to my prayer list for healing n strenthening. Love the knowledge you share as well
This is not just mud larking, this is M&S mud larking lol. Your voice is amazingly calming and relaxing, I think I found my replacement for Attenborough, I’m now going to put the sleep timer on my telly and fall asleep to your voice 👍
Tom so enjoy your videos I,m always saying wait I wanted to see the blue bottle but of course the water making so much noise that you can’t hear me lol ah but I so love the walks and playing in the water wadeing thanks for taking us along
Another wonderful, relaxing video. May I mention that you have a very soothing voice.🗣 What a magical area you were hunting in. The waterfall and the old wall with the circular tunnel is absolutely magnificent! The doggy you found looks like a Westland High Terrier to me(They come in black or white...) Thanks for sharing all your treasures with us, there were some lovely and funny finds. Well, good luck and happy hunting on your next adventure. Looking forward to the next footage. Greetings and Blessings from Ontario, Canada. 🙏🏼🍀👍🏼🇨🇦
Thanks McChrister, it does indeed look quite a lot like a West Highland Terrier, perhaps with a hint of a Scots Terrier!? People do seem to find my voice soothing, it's a surprise to me because I find recordings of it hard to listen to myself. Thanks for watching, for all your comments and well wishes. Blessings from West Yorkshire.
I will be visiting England for the first time this fall and am looking forward to finding treasure on the beach, but now I am also adding streams to the list of places to look. Thx you for sharing your adventures!
Thank you for the enjoyable explorations of your beautiful area. I enjoy your relaxing narration style and interesting finds. There is an added bonus of touring the area that my great-grandmother's family came from and discovering how lovely an area it is.
Britain has all the weather; sometimes on the same day. 🙂 Having said that, I was suprised at how lovely that day was. I hope all your days are wonderful, and your birthday was especially so.
I live vicariously through the mudlarkers and the van lifers. Two things I would love to do. Alas I found them too old and too full of Arthritis to do them. Hope you can do this till you're 100. I will watch long as I can.
A small lovely slice of Heaven. Trees, water, rocks and things to look at and wonder about. I would love to live there. I would go to the small falls area like this one and relax into a puddle with bits and pieces of my own. The sound of water soothes my busy mind to sleep. Thank you.
Glad you liked it. I'm hoping to go back there soon, and the water might actually be warm enough for a bit of paddling now, perhaps even some bathing. When I filmed this, the water was about 5 Celcius, and there was a frost that morning. 🙂
Thank you, and yes... the pipeline at the bottom that goes under the road, and under a mill, is unable to take all the water when it's flooding, and it sometimes makes it up to the road.
Hi Tom - The rusty motorcycle cylinder could be stabilised by soaking in low viscosity epoxy resin like is used to stabilise soft spots in wood that is being turned and machine. I often use timber with lots of spalting which requires this to make it sound. The trick is to bake it in an oven at a very low temp for long enough to be sure there is no moisture in the rust before you do it and them it will last for a very long time - Graeme
Thanks Graeme, I've been looking into various methods and this does look to be a good one. Would you mix the hardener in, and paint on multiple layers till it doesn't soak in any more?
@@tom_burleigh Hi Tom - Yes painting on repeated layers of catalysed resin is probably the easiest way and will be good enough for your application. The way impregnation is done industrially is to place the item in a vacuum chamber and the vacuum is pulled which removes all the air from the porosities in the rust then while under vacuum the item is immersed in resin and the vacuum is released which causes the resin to be drawn into the porosities - this is a bit over the top for your project unless you happened to have the equipment to begin with.
Thanks Graeme, excellent explanation from which I've learned a lot. I don't have a vacuum chamber yet, but it's one of the things I'm going to need for a future project I have planned involving lost wax casting... I might have to get the pieces to make one sooner than I'd planned.
Beautiful waterfalls! I hope you can travel back there when the trees have leaves and the flowers bloom, wonderful scenery and finds!☺ You have brightened my day.
Hello Tom. Yet another thoroughly addictive video. The scenery was stunning, utterly magical and I was in awe of the waterfall constructions. Thanks Marina, I'm glad you got so much out of this one, it was my favorite one to shoot; such a glorious day and I'm sad to admit the camera didn't pick up half of what my eyes did. There's quite a few places like this around here, but this is the only one with good things to find. I might do some videos soon of just climbing up similar valleys.
You are blessed that there are still such lovely places in England. I dont like cities such as London ( to much of an introvert) but the countryside is much to my liking. Always wanted to see where half my ancestors came from.

The Kinzig does look similar to several rivers around here... I'd like to go walking beside it and in it one day. Very clean looking, but there's almost always something to find, even in the cleanest places. 🙂
The purple flowering plant was indeed lungwort, also called pulmonaria here. It has dappled leaves that my mother used to say made it look a bit diseased, but I think they are really pretty shade lovers.
Thank you, I got very lucky with the light that day too. Welcome to the channel, and I hope you continue getting enjoyment out of my videos for a long time. 🙂
Dear Tom, Have you seen Andy Goldsworthys films? I think one I saw last year is called something like- 'Leaning into the Wind'. I think you would appreciate them very much. Texture is quite an element in them. That was a lovely valley & stream. Thankyou for sharing your walk with us. You are very kind.
So glad to see you take the garbage and plastic away from such a beautiful spot
Thanks Beth, it feels like a duty of mine to leave the places I film a little better than when I arrived.
Beautiful scenery stunning waterfalls. Thank you for protecting nature and removing the rubbish xxx Fantastic
Thanks for your support, it's often dispiriting how much rubbish gets into the rivers, and I can't get all of it, but I generally aim to leave these places nicer than when I arrived.
I think if I lived there, I'd walk that path every day just for the exercise, sights and sounds. Extremely peaceful.
The wonderful thing about mud-larking videos is you can watch them months or years after they are made and they are just as enjoyable . A beautiful and peaceful place. I could sit and listen to the rushing water and birds all day .
What a beautiful fairyland of waterfalls. Love the old stone bridge as well
You know you cant make people care. Thank you for caring and picking up the plastic, batteries, and lead.
I do know that yes... but what I can do is show to people what is getting into rivers, and those who care can be inspired to do a bit of clean-up too. I've had at least 10 comments saying my videos have done just that. 🙂
I also found myself shouting "duck Tom" when you went through the trees. 😂

The northern mudlarks are great too! I love Tom and his quirky vids!
Listening to the water is so relaxing that I'm getting sleepy.

Thanks. I might revisit it soon, and see if you win your bet.
Another angel earning his wings.
Just watched again Tom. Still enchanting! Old rural England. What a lovely lark. You did a lot of walking 😉 you and Nicola are my favorite watches. 🤩😎
Mr. Burleigh and the Northern Mudlarks are my favorite foragers. Cheers from Nebraska, USA!

Beautiful tumbling water. It looks almost like someone made a maze for the water to find its way through.
Amazing very beautiful enjoy watching
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
My pleasure
My immediate reaction to the two mismatched socks was: Take them! Dobby loves socks! :D
That little stream is beautiful. Love the moss and lovely melody it makes.
I agree, and that day showed it at it's best. I got lucky with the weather, and the time of the year... water was very cold though. 🙂
What a beautiful day and beautiful place to walk and look for treasures 👋🏻
I love that you take time to share the nature while your hunting. Adding you to my prayer list for healing n strenthening.
Love the knowledge you share as well
That old motorcycle engine piece would make a cool face on a metal sculpture. When you turned it, it looked like a alien face.😀
This is not just mud larking, this is M&S mud larking lol.
Your voice is amazingly calming and relaxing, I think I found my replacement for Attenborough, I’m now going to put the sleep timer on my telly and fall asleep to your voice 👍
Thanks Stupot, I hope you had a great night's sleep.
That is a very calming and beautiful place. Thanks for letting us tag along.
Thank you, I got lucky going on that day, with beautiful light. I tried filming there a week previously in snow, and it came out terribly. 🙂
Wow by far the nicest place I’ve seen anyone mudlark so far. So pretty and ancient looking. Thanks for sharing
🙂Yes, and I got so lucky with the weather that day. It might be about time I went back there 🙂
Magical walk really enjoyed it very much... thankyou!
Thank you, this one is one of my favourites, I got lucky with the light and weather and had a great time exploring 🙂
Tom , I have been rewatching your videos and I must say what beautiful scenery, I so enjoy it Thank you again ❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Loved the making of the video and the choices you made to keep. Show us some of your art
Thanks. 🐊Florida 🌴
Thanks sanford, new art is coming; there's a few older art things on my Instagram account; link in the description.
Thank you so very much for taking me with you! The landscapes and waterway were stunning. I had so much fun!
Thanks Lynn :)
I love the shot of the trees around the 20 minute mark. Beautiful area.
Thanks, it's beautiful all year round; but I really got lucky with the light and the lack of leaf colour that day to really show it off well. 🙂
The fast forward going uphill, was very much the perception I remember from my youth of one of the few times I was drunk.
You live in a beatiful country ! I am Dutch!🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thanks Tom, I feel so relaxed after watching this.
Thanks Susan, I'm glad my video relaxes people.
Wonderful pause on sky & bare tree tops... Fast running river!
Thank you, that was my favorite shot from this video, and I don't think I bettered it for many later videos. 🙂
What a stunning place ... the motorbike engine looks like an owl Tom
What a beautiful place. To think that in past time it was thought of as the perfect "dump". Wish I was there.
I love the little yorkie! I have three yorkies and they are wonderful companions.
Thank you Tom I felt I was with you such a lovely Video :-)
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed coming along.
what a beautiful place ...
I agree, but the weather, light and time of year helped it's appearance too. 🙂
What a beautiful place.wayt I just saw a Hobbit piping out!!!!!!
Well spotted, not everyone sees the sneaky little Hobbitses.
I really enjoy your videos Tom, and am binge watching my favorite mudlarks. Thank you for sharing!!
Tom so enjoy your videos I,m always saying wait I wanted to see the blue bottle but of course the water making so much noise that you can’t hear me lol ah but I so love the walks and playing in the water wadeing thanks for taking us along
Beautiful place and love the bridges
Well you love the bridges and I love the waterfalls and you found them all thank you
and a glorious day!
Yes, I got very lucky with the weather that day. I've been a few times since, but it hasn't been quite as glorious.

It was a beautiful day. And 6 days after my 70th birthday. Who in California would have expected such great walk in Britain in late February.
Britain has all the weather; sometimes on the same day. 🙂 Having said that, I was suprised at how lovely that day was. I hope all your days are wonderful, and your birthday was especially so.
This was a beautiful walk! Loved all the water falls
Your ARE correct, that is indeed a Lungwort.
I live vicariously through the mudlarkers and the van lifers. Two things I would love to do. Alas I found them too old and too full of Arthritis to do them. Hope you can do this till you're 100. I will watch long as I can.
Thanks, I hope to be going on adventures for a long time; and yes, making videos along the way. 🙂
What a lovely day you had! It's blustery cold where I'm at in the US. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Theresa, I'm glad you like it, sorry you're getting the weather that we in the UK traditionally get during February.
Amazing video love i watching u it beautiful
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful location.
Yes, it certainly is. And I managed to get there on perhaps the most beautiful day to film too 🙂
what a lovely place
Yes, it truly is... and it's very local to me, so I can visit it often. 🙂

beautiful little stream, envy your ability to walk it, I no longer am able but enjoy seeing you do it, take care
Thanks, I do enjoy exploring such beautiful places, and I like that I can film the outings and other people can enjoy watching along. 🙂
Really enjoyed the trek up those waterfalls and stream. Must be quite a different scene when it’s in flood.
Thank you, and yes... the pipeline at the bottom that goes under the road, and under a mill, is unable to take all the water when it's flooding, and it sometimes makes it up to the road.

I wish I had the skill to replicate the stone work along the stream, it has it's own beauty.
the moto engine is completely fabulous as is!
I agree 🙂 But I'm still hoping I can figure out a good design to keep it fabulous and give it a new function too.
I love that you haul out trash too.
Thanks 🙂
Tom, so glad you didn’t fall.
I fall often, it's a dangerous hobby... but, it's fun, and I rarely hurt myself. 🙂
I have fallen plenty of times myself and have gotten stuck in mud. Yes, it is great fun.
You are blessed that there are still such lovely places in England. I dont like cities such as London ( to much of an introvert) but the countryside is much to my liking. Always wanted to see where half my ancestors came from.
I am indeed very lucky to live where I do; there are so many wonderful hidden places that few people ever explore 🙂
Hey Tom!
Great vid....as usual! I put you on every night before bed to help me relax. If you ever wanted a career in narrating novels or stories for audio books, I believe you would have no problem finding employment! Your voice is very calming and enjoyable! Thank you for the fine work you do!
......it is appreciated.
A scotty dog. The engine looks like a face of an ape? What do you see? It is stunningly beautiful. The mossy old stones gives one pause to almost write a sonnet or perchance a poem. Such a lovey sound the falling water makes. I wonder how long the walls have stood and the tunnel. It looks like there are places to sit in the summer and just let the water flow over your feet in a warm sun. I envy your location. Such a beautiful country. I like the idea of a lamp. You can use spray lacquer that is satin finished and it will seal the engine and keep the warm tones of the rust.
Thanks Mary, I don't know if I see any creatures in the engine, just organic shapes that captivated me. Satin finish lacquer is probably the way I'll go with it, I have some nice materials that I've found in the rivers that I'm hoping will work well with it, haven't got the confidence of a good design yet, but hopefully I'll do a video of the lamp making when I do. I think the walls and tunnel were built at the same time as the first mill on the site; so the late 1700s.
The small climb you had, is what I deal with all the time mudlarking. Ioved that scene.
Thnak you for sharing this adventure, loved it, the scenery is beautiful.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Love hearing as well as viewing your video
Thanks Connie.
I was hoping to see more variety of finds, but the scenery and the photography (prior to speed-up) was lovely. ❣
Wonderful and relaxing video Tom, Thank You.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
This valley was gorgeous
Beautiful scenery...
Thanks, I agree 🙂
Love the videos. Very relaxing to watch and listen too. Very meditative
Thank you!
Longwart. It takes me binge watching a UK mudlarker to find out the name of the plant in my US garden. Thanks for solving my mystery, Tom! :)
Slight mispronunciation by me maybe; it's lungwort. Glad nevertheless that I can help spread knowledge. 🙂
No it's my creative spelling at fault here. Cheers. :)
Glad I came across your videos, I often come through those woods as an alternative, much more pleasing, way down to town. Good luck with the rusty engine.
Thanks, that's one of my favorite ways up to, and down from Oldtown. I've been too busy to do something with the rusty engine so far, but I'll hopefully get a chance soon.
The ceramic black terrier could be a brewers accessory for Black and White whisky. They had a logo with the two dogs.
Ah, thank you, not a bad suggestion; there is a very old pub up the hill a bit from there. 🙂
Yay!
Hope you make some more of these videos, do enjoy these
Thanks Christine, I plan to. 🙂
Such a beautiful place!!
Yes, I totally agree. Might be about time for another visit soon 🙂
I love the Thames but I really like your country side jaunts too. Reminds me of living by the Kinzig River in my youth.
The Kinzig does look similar to several rivers around here... I'd like to go walking beside it and in it one day. Very clean looking, but there's almost always something to find, even in the cleanest places. 🙂
Nice country side .
Thanks. I'm due for a revisit soon. 🙂
Nice spot Tom, good walk!
Thanks 925inder... I wish all mudlarking spots were as nice.
I think your dog figure is a West highland terrier.
Love your videos ☺ keep them coming
Thanks Deb... I've been contemplating giving him some new front paws, and ears.
Ty very beautiful video and peaceful place, hello from Rome Italy
Thank you Anna, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Rome is a city I find very beautiful too.
You live in a beautiful part of the country, it was lovely to walk with you. I look forward to your next video as always. 🕸🕸
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you, that wss lovely.
Hi from Long Island New York. Beautiful video
Thank you Harps, Babies and Pups, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks Bizzie Lizzie, I hope I can make more videos that you find beautiful.
Fantastic video. Great bench. I loved the sound of you walking in the walking. What beautiful brick work and scenery. Thank you.
And thanks as ever, for watching and being a lovely part of my youtube experience.
The purple flowering plant was indeed lungwort, also called pulmonaria here. It has dappled leaves that my mother used to say made it look a bit diseased, but I think they are really pretty shade lovers.
Thank you, I agree, a nice looking plant, and with strong medicinal qualities too.
ThanksTom
What a beautiful spot. I just found your channel and really enjoy it. Thank you!
Thank you, I got very lucky with the light that day too. Welcome to the channel, and I hope you continue getting enjoyment out of my videos for a long time. 🙂
Hello 🙂 This is still one of my absolute favourite videos to watch - a joy and a pleasure and thankyou 👍
Thank you, I'm glad it holds up to repeat viewings 🙂

More videos, please!
More are coming.
I enjoyed my walk with you
Thank you, I enjoyed it too 🙂
The wee dog in the beginning is a Scottish terrier 👍🚶🏞️🦊
