Yes this is a Three Thrusday Thoughts but I did FOUR lenses... Sorry... What do you think? Does the Sigma 24-70 replace a stack of prime glass? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks ! ALSO LOL at my multiple color grade changes during the video 😂😂 I don't have time to proof before posting.
Aside from being a TH-camr . I'm also a full-time videography director. And a wedding videographer on weekends. I paid for all my gear including the lenses in this video
For commercial shoots that allow a little more time for precision...prime lenses are the way to go. But for 90% of video gigs that me and many shooters get (i.e. events, weddings), this Sigma 24-70 definitely appears to be the most versatile option
I'm don't know why you aren't getting more hits on this topic. This is a critical issue you'd think for those who are really serious about image quality between a zoom and prime lenses and the investment differences. I greatly appreciated it. Great job.
I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I just purchased a Sony 20 mm prime 1.8 g lens and it’s great. However, I just heard about this sigma 24-70 2.8. I usually shoot video, but sometimes take pictures for my urban exploring work. I usually use a gimbal and a Sony a7sii camera and we all know the a7sii is not that great at autofocus .I know the 20 mm prime is a lighter lens. I’m not sure what to do. I can still return the lens if I wanted to but not sure. Any help is needed.
@@nVuFilms thanks dog, if you check out my latest video on TH-cam, the first part of the video was shot on a 28mm prime 2.0 fe and the 2nd and 3rd part of the video was shot with the 20mm G1.8 lens just to give you and idea what I’m trying to capture.
This video was suggested to me after I bought the lens, which isn’t helpful but the angle you took is exactly how I saw it. Coming from 4 primes to the sigma zoom, the only reason I’m keeping 2 of the primes is for video because of size/weight. Amazing performance and value from sigma.. the amount of time saved changing lenses , cleaning dust and having those in between focal ranges gives me the opportunity to shoot in ways I couldn’t before. I’m absolutely loving it.. what a gem and props for being basically the only video I’ve seen who put this lens into the context it needed to be put in.. good stuff 👍
Randomly saw this comment. How does the Sigma feel for sharpness compared to the primes? In the video it looks a bit softer... but it's also shot wide open specifically for Bokeh. Do you find that stopping the Sigma down lets it at least approach the primes in sharpness? Or do primes just blow it away?
I’ve been using the 24-70 for awhile. Love it I’ve been married to it for awhile. I just picked up the 85mm f1.8 that’s actually what brought me here. Great review thanks.
I am digging your content and style. Subscribed. After hearing you say “DG DN, DN stands for deez nuts” every time you refer to the lens, it actually gets funnier. At this point I would be let down and unsubscribe if you talked about a DN lens without saying deez nuts.

Really thinking to go for the sigma 24-70 but in Europe for the price of the sigma you can basically buy the 17-28 + 28-75 tamron. The difference btw tamron 28-75 and sigma 24-70 is more than 550 dollars ! What would you recommend ?
Can you check the front element of your Sigma under flashlight for any dust accumulation ? I was about to buy this lens but then saw dust related complaints all over the internet. There is even a video on the TH-cam explaining how to clean the dust already!
I am in the market to buy a standard zoom for my sony... the only option within my budget is the Tamron and this Sigma. I have seen a lot of people facing this issue with dust (just after a month or two). I really wanted to buy the Sigma but after reading those I want to go for Tamron. I guess you have used Sigma for a while, if so could you please post a picture of the front element or share your experience if possible. Thanks!

Yep I have the two Tamron zooms 17-28 & 28-75 and I don't really need anything else right now. F2.8 looks great for most or all of my cases right now. That 24-70mm looks like a beast. If it was out when I got my Tamron 28-75mm I would have probably got that one, but the Tamron is serving me well. Good video!

Great video, Vu. I just picked up an A7Riii and waiting for the Sigma 24-70mm to arrive today. I think the Sony 85mm 1.8 will be the next lens I’ll get since it can take pictures that the zoom can’t even come close to touching.
Hello Vu, I have the Sony 24-105 G, and a 55 f1.8 zeiss, would you recommend me to change from 24-105 to this sigma? I'm a bit bored with f4 as it doesn't have a lot of blur, but I also don't want to lose the extra range. I'm really attracted to this 2.8. Thanks greetings!
Glad you showed what the other lenses could do wide open. To many pick the same settings for both lenses , which is not a fair comparison if they don’t show what the other lenses can do. Well done
I got all 4 of those prime lenses. I like the idea of the sigma but I am leaning towards the size and weight of the primes. Some days I just want to walk around with the 35mm or whatever and it's small and light, also more discreet. But totally love the idea of not having to change while shooting on a gimbal Ughhhh
I'm on the same situation right now, currently own the 24mm, 55mm, 85mm 1.8 and i've been debaing weather or not i should sell the 24mm and zeiss 55mm to get a sigma 24-70mm 2.8, they're amazing lenses but it's painfully annoying to be switching lenses.

@@nVuFilms damn bro thank you for the quick replay, im thinking about getting an 85 1.8 as my second lens purchase after my zoom, you think thats the best second lens to get? and a good zoom like sigma 24-70 or tamron 28-75 is best first lens? sorry about all the questions
I paired this lens with Sigma 14-24 DG DN F/2.8 and just got sigma 85mm f/1.4 dg dn art for portraits and product shots, even that i had 85 1.4 GM. Finally I feel that I em in good place. Art series are blast to work with. Yes, a bit heavy to carry and handle but issue for me with primes are replacing them on rainy and sandy areas, risking of dropping them, array of filters for each of them, not to mention the cost of building your kit... So I sold all my GM primes and still I have plenty money left to update rest of the gear. I was uneasy to do this move at first, but after testing this Sigma 24-70 DG DN F/2.8 I found that I em not using primes that this lens is covering any more, so i bought it. The same came later with 14-24 DG DN F/2.8 range.
I wish all the youtubers would start asking/demanding camera companies to add a blending option to there mirrorless or live view cameras to make it easy to take the same photo with different lenses/setting/isos/speeds/times of day. Just give us an option to load/play a photo, set opacity and then all these comparisons become really easy and accurate. It would also make taking extreme time lapses much easier. This function has been in stop motion tools for years, time to put it directly in the cameras.

Not sure why you say the sigma is worth getting when all 4 comparisons went to the primes????
When you need to get a cosigner close shot and you are stuck with a 24mm prime. That f stop doesn't matter
Why primes seems to show better what is inside the lens? It almost seems like the sigma ha too much contrast
Contrast etc can easily by changed in post in 3 seconds
