  • Our hot tap often leaks when you think you have turned it off and my wife wants lever type tap heads so I faced the surfaces and replaced the heads. Obviously I had to video what I was doing so I could upload it to TH-cam. I am sure I will get plenty of advice.

    they look miss match old and new ..these are cartridge style quarter turn handles they look funny spinning so far around...washer based ones are round and you can spin them far as you want ....no need to buy a tool to reseat. these is never found at the store for those reasons plus cart last far longer .. return the parts replace it all you wife will not be as happy with this

      We were not concerned with looks, my wife was having problems turning old style taps and the lever action is much easier to use. As you say quarter turn so they are easy to operate and they don't need turning more than a quarter turn to be fully open.

    Thanks so much for this!! I am in my early 40s and suffer severe bouts of arthritis. I'm glad tap heads can be changed. I dont care for the look of it, especially if its stuck open and I can't grab it to turn it off!

    browsing to find a plumber with the valves ridiculously tightened and a solution... stumbled on yours watched to see if you did... no joy there, lucky you! Anyway, there could be people who don't quite understand the difference between isolation valves and stopcocks, would be worth reviewing your ref to those being stopcocks, some numpty may think that's their stopcock! Correct. Just done this exact job but have my levers at right angles to the spout. Also if yours don't line up perfectly, back the tap head off a tad - it won't leak due to the 'O' ring. 👍

    Ive got a bath mixer tap lever (quarter turn) just spinning with no water being dispensed. Do the cartridges or valves from new taps just go straight in the old tap bodies like you have done here. Problem we have is it's a double ended bath with no access to completely change the taps so it sll has to be done from above

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not a professional plumber, so I am not someone to go to for advice. The first thing I will say, is, you need to consider how you are going to stop the water flowing. Do you know where the external stopcock is. If you are in an older house the water may be stored in a tank in the loft so turning the stopcock off will not stop the water flowing until the tank is emptied. Same problem with the hot water.
      You will also need the right tools for the job.
      Back to your question, as far as I know, the items should fit but you may not know for sure until you have taken the tap apart, so you need a backup plan in case you need to refit the faulty parts.
      If you have no experience, my honest advice is, consider getting a professional plumber.

    The X tops look better and just as easy to use . Fare enough if you were replacing those horrible 1980s plastic tops

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you had replaced your X tops with lever tops you would be very happy now as they are ideal for use with your elbows when washing your hands regularly for 20 seconds, you will find lever taps in hospital scrub rooms. When you get older and your hands are weaker you make think differently too. As for looks, obviously you are entitled to your opinion.

    Covid19 brought me here, I wanted handles which you can turn on without using your hands, to avoid potentially getting virus on handle. I turn mine on with my elbow !

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, similar to the ones you see in hospital based films and documentaries. They certainly work for that purpose although the "real" hospital ones are longer so easier to operate with your elbow and more controllable 👍 Good luck and stay safe 😷
