    Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.

    I believe the car is worth what it is because:
    -It was one of the fastest cars of its time
    -You can't get a new 911 Turbo or Turbo S in a manual
    -Was the fastest of the air-cooled production 911's
    -Has a classic look and feel with performance that still matches modern-day cars
    you can get better performing and newer cars for the same money, but you can never get the feel of an older car buy buying a new car today.
    Moral of the Story:
    Worth the money? If you want straight up comfort, technology or performance, No.
    If you want a car that will never go out of style, will still be very fast by today's standards, and have a classic car feel, then yeah. It's worth the $150-200K

    One of my all time favorite cars as well. I don't think there's many better looking cars out there, from the lines to the bulging rear it's superb. A good buy is a 993 Carrera 4S, not as fast as the turbo but you get that raw experience. I think that's why people love the 993 so much. Personally, I'd want a driver as well, the ones who buy there's don't care you can buy a newer exotic that's faster, more tech blah blah, they want the driving experience. I will own a 4S one day.

    The value comes from the 993 being the last of the air cooled Porsche's, with it's original design & dimensions after that the 996 was a complete redesign. It was also the quickest production road Porsche since the 959, all that helps make it a valuable car. It was one of my childhood favourites too.

  • @StefanThePro
    @StefanThePro 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They are worth it. I get offers for my 993's all the time but what am I gonna replace it with?? Nothing is as fun. The local PCA chapter agrees (the new pcars are always trying to keep up) and that timeless look is unbeatable. This is Porsche's greatest work.

    Oh man, this video and car bring back some good memories for me! The first manual transmission car I ever drove was a 1996 911 Twin Turbo. I remember getting in and ignition on left and thinking how minimal the interior was--truly a drivers car. I wouldn't say it is worth 200k, BUT back when I drove one, it was 78k and that DEFINITELY was worth it. Too bad I didn't have the money :)

    I think one of the reasons the 993 turbos are worth so much is that a lot of the technology that was developed in the 959, trickled down into this car. So in essence this is more like a bargain 959, rather than an expensive 20 year old used Porsche. Plus dat ass, look at those fat fenders, the whale tail and the skinny waistline. That is the pinnacle of the classic 911 lines.

    The 993 is a real gem in Porsche history. It was the total package, and it still looks great. It was such a clean and straightforward car in terms of styling.
    No crazy mouths in front
    No superfluous creases
    No weird light setups
    No wasteful black plastic bits
    No unnecessary curves
    No chrome
    No extraneous panel gaps
    No crazy exhaust tips or housings
    And like Rob said, as far as exotics went at the time, it was damn reliable. It's a modern classic and as much as I hate to see these things escape my potential grasp due to appreciation, I can't say the car isn't deserving. This was the last great 911 before Porsche almost bit the dust, and right before they got the Japanese in to help them retool their operations and products.

    Imo I find the 964 more enjoyable than the 993s. Its just seems like a more raw car, and its a lot less expensive than the 993s AND the 930s.

    Movie Year: 1995
    It may not have had enough cup holders for his partner Marcus, but Mike Lowry's black Porsche 911 Turbo got the job done. Especially when it mattered, like at the end when it somehow beat a Cobra Roadster in a drag race. What, you don't believe that a TKT hp Porsche beat a TKT hp Cobra Roadster? Write Michael Bay a letter.

    RS Door cards on a Turbo. *Sigh* Someone was a real idiot when they ordered this car, very clearly, Rob. You don't do that to a Turbo. What's the point? Jesus, each seat weighs like 38 kilograms and has like 4 motors in it. It's like not wearing socks, because it makes you faster. :P
    You said it yourself, when they were making 993 Turbos, they were already cranking out 996s in massive volumes, so the low numbers of the air-cooled Turbos makes them fantastically expensive. Yes it's a shitty car compared to the 996 Turbo - But what isn't? The 996TT is effectively 2/3rds of a 959 in a stiffer bodyshell, with the Le Mans winning motor pushing it along - and yet it's trading at chump change! It's the greatest supercar bargain of all time.
    No - the old Porsche Turbo is now reserved for multi-millionaire collectors, and idiots with too much money. It's a shame, really, because you almost never see 'em on the road any more. They're all stashed away in air conditioned storage facilities, where they get started once a month, and live their lives connected to a battery charger. :(

    $70-80K is a real value for this car. Everything else is looks-based hype. But, then again, looks base type got the 1961 ferrari to $30MM. I guess, what I'm really saying, I would never pay that kind of money for this car, but it is extremely good looking.

    It was the 993 was the last air cooled 911, the last with the original measure of the windshield which made it the last of the 911 original form... it was a lot of last in the 911 world with the 993 and the Turbo/Turbo S had everything Porsche could put on a car at that time

    This car was the king of the 90s. Faster than the Ferrari in its class, Turbo technology that the Japanese cars had, and a it handles better than the Vipers of its day. As far as design is concerned, it is the best looking 911 ever made by light years. And that is why collectors go crazy for it. The Turbo S is averaging $500,000. Is it worth it? Considering you can get a 488 Pista for $700,000, no…it does not.

    This is 6 years later, the car costs more, and Will Smith slaps people at the Grammy's, lol. So much Will Smith reference in this video. Regardless, this is still one of the best 911's ever made, period! They are worth way more now and that stinks. But I am sure we all know that.

    + 1 .. Gotta luv the 911s 993 range. . A mix of analog & digital although mostly analog. .. The 993tt for its decade was/is a supercar that thinks it's a daily driver, and it's both. .. The 993tt is civil at the limit and a daily commute. .. Typical 911. .. Cheers, the original owner of a '98 Carrera S (993).

    If you really want to know why this car is by far the best of the best...look at other Porsche models. 356S, 550 spyder, first 911, first turbo...930, and finally the 959. The 993 is the toned down, sleaker, more daily version of it. I love em all. The new Porsches ride nice and are fast but so is every car with a high price tag and sporty equipment and high powered engines.
    A Corvette with a 15k twin turbo kit, bilsteins and springs and sway bars and link upgrades, and drag radials is still the best bang for the buck though...Very nice car for 70k...700hp and amazing handling.

    First of all, the 993's actually started in 1995, not 1996, and ran through 1998 mr. Furheady! Second, those cars trade for that kind of money for several reasons that only a true air cooled Porsche enthusiast would understand! One very large reason is that they are the very BEST and LAST of the air cooled 911's. THEY'RE NOT MAKING THEM AIR COOLED SHITS NO MORE!

    The C4 ZR-1 is a hell of a great car for the money. You could buy like.....8 C4 ZR-1's compared to 1 993 Turbo. Or just buy a normal C4 and LS swap it. Then you win everywhere!

    Hard to watch video as Rob is struggling with the facts so much. Kind of obvious he only decided to drive it when Glenn drove up in it. To correct a few of these errors, you can buy 30-40k mile cars all day long for $130k. I personally inspected a flawless 16k mile car with a $178k ask 6 weeks ago......could be bought for $165k. There were 6,000 993 Turbos made in the two production years.

    okay first off, in the bad boys movie it was a 996 turbo s leichtbau(light weight), second, it’s a 3.3 single turbo flat six which made around 376hp. third, they only built 85-87 of these during 92-94, as will smith said limited edition, and the 993 came out in 1995

    Old Porsches are having their day in the sun. Let's give credit where it is due. At the end of the day like all other old cars, the maintenance will be a killer expense but if it satisfies an itch and you can afford it, why not. You only live once. I feel though that we are near the end of this particular fad. I wonder what the next car fad will be. Probably something from the 2000 decade like the WRX, EVO, M3, GT500 or Camaro SS. Hell, even pickup trucks might be collectible.

  • @papasmurf986
    @papasmurf986 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    He mentions that it does everything good but was not the best performing car of that time period...you might want to check the stats...0-60 was 3.7s....180+ all out....possibly the best brakes, and had one of the fastest 1/4 miles times for much of that time period too. The 512TR and Diablo both were faster all out but out of the hole nothing could stay with this car apart from something like a McLaren F1 and I think it was selling for close to a 1 million back then. The reason these are so expensive today apart from the fact that they are the last of the aircooled, is the productions numbers....I think he quoted ~2000 built over two years, that is a rare beast.

    I had a near perfect one of these for 10 years that I (unfortunately) sold in 2011 for $95K, which I thought was all the money. While it was a good car in it's day, paying the same as a low mileage pristine 458 or 997.2 GT3RS for one of these is crazy. If I had kept mine I would have sold it two summers ago at the height of the frenzy, as these are now starting to slide a bit in price.

    how can you do a video without actually knowing your facts is beyond me... bad boys Porsche was a 964 turbo which is the model before the 993, in my view much better looking car from the front at least... anyway, car aside, I hope you've got your act together and you now know what you are talking about when it comes to Porsche 911s.

  • @TractControlOff
    @TractControlOff 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I didn't get the fuss either, until I bought my 993. You can't fully enjoy a 993 on the highway; they come alive on back roads. Although it's not the most sophisticated suspension, it tackles curves and you truly appreciate how visceral and connected you are to the car. My car isn't as powerful as the Turbo, and the Turbo further adds to the experience (unlike modern Turbo cars) and provides more torque. The market is certainly inflated, but gone are the days of $60-70K 993 Turbos.
    P.S. You should drive a C4 ZR-1, it will make you hate the C4 much less.

    My 993 TT was my daily driver for six+ years. Osterville to Grafton to Boston... I could care less about the value or depreciation. Drove all my kids to soccer practice in it, put my bag of soccer balls for coaching in the boot. Ridiculously practical car. Other than tires, brakes, and oil changes - there is no maintenance on these! You clearly did not push it, it goes so much faster. I'm pretty sure stock boost is .9 not 1.0. Violent Brakes.

    I miss my 1986 Porsche 928 S4. Granted it was an automatic but it was one hell of a car for its time for 1K sticker. I later bought a 95? 928 GT five speed. I worst they still made them. I made the mistake of buying the 86 new. I lost a lot of change when I drove it off the lot.

    Did you sell your shoes to get that car? The new ones look like a trade-in, like someone's dog chewed on them a bit. Just messing with you. Love, and great video. I dig Tesla and such, but there will always be room for the old greats. RX7, NSX, lots of fun cars. Even "regular" cars are fun when you know how to drive and adapt to their individual characteristics. Pushing an SUV, for example; silly, but fun. I've seen people push a Corvette and fishtail accidentally. Amusing, if not sad.

    Sub 4 second 0-60, still air cooled IIRC. Everyone knew the air cooled engines were coming to an end but didn't know when. Just like how everyone talks about the end of 12cyl cars today. I bet Rob could do a great Joe Pantoliano impression. Now do a 550/575M from Bad Boys II.

    What about the NA1 NSX (91-94)? No where near the performance numbers of the 993 Turbo, but it definitely was way ahead of it's time from a performance and reliability perspective.
