If GRRM wants you to like a character, one of his consistently winning methods is to have that character talk a lot of shit about the Freys. Many such cases!
I am always a bit conflicted about the freys in general, they are written (and shown in the series) as absolutely disgusting people. No redeeming quality just pure vileness. I always found it hard to understand how a great house, that has this extremely valuable seat, the only viable crossing for a great army, can produce such people...and only such. Yes there may be some freys that don't fit the bill but in general they seem to deserve all the ire they get.

The Late Lord Frey comes from their armies being too Late to Arrive in Support of the Rebellion forces in Robert's War against the Targeyean Dynasty,and even before that the Freys ended up betraying the Blackfyre Supporters to Bloodraven during the Whitewalls Wedding/Reveal of Daemon Blackfyre II

And he's making perfect proposals + threats to Edmure... like he hit off all the marks "small folk, wife, child." All the things deeply Edmure cares about... and his threats also hit all the spots too... Jaime is what Cersei thinks she's... So, Jaime's doing all this for the legacy in the end right? that seems his big goal since his maiming and return in KL. Filling up the book of king's guard with great deeds... Somehow making his torn up name little less broken and so on... It is sad tho, knowing this much about him that we know, how others, who don't fully know him, assume so much. Like blackfish, he only knows that Jaime killed Aerys, didn't bring Catelyns girls... has no clue about truth behind it all...
