    I can totally relate to gummed up EFI system. I had a motorbike that sat for nearly 20 yrs. And silly me tried to start it without draining all the fuel, and treating the fuel system with the correct fluids before hand. Result, a fully rebuilt EFI with new injectors needed. 🤬

    Great video. I'll save it so I can refer back to it. Regarding fuel. I've been told by tanker drivers, don't get fuel at a servo when there's a fuel truck delivering fuel. Why? It stirrs up the fuel in the tank. Be that water or sludge. Especially at older sites. Drive to the next servo. Or if it's the only one. wait a while after the tanker has gone before getting fuel.

  • @BradGryphonn
    @BradGryphonn ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm old school, from the days when sometimes engines chewed more oil than petrol, especially the 300 clunkers. So, I've developed the habit to check my oil and water each day before I drive my vehicle anywhere. And as an old truck driver in a past life, I tend to walk around my ute before I drive it just to give it a visual inspection. Yeah, it's a bit overkill but hey, you'll catch slow tyre leaks or anything abnormal if you do a walkaround at least once a day.

  • @BenMitro

    Dan, much appreciate your POV mate. You think stuff through and don't let the marketing drivel drive your choices. Onya!!!
    Using (not just starting) the vehicle every week to re-coat bits that aren't sitting in oil is mandatory IMHO.

    When I bought my 05 Courier, I'd planned on just doing the necessaries on the suspension and steering. I ended up replacing most of the components; tie-rod ends, brakes, rotors, upper control arms, ball joints, suspension bushes front and back, shockies etc. Same with the 4-litre engine. Replaced the water pump, thermostat & sensor housing, alternator, and all the seals from the exhaust and inlets up, oh, and replaced the clutch fan with an electric one. It's also got a full 12/240-volt power system with solar, AGM batteries, inverter etc.

    One of the many good things about old Land rovers is that you know it's been looked after because if it hadn't been it would have died by now 😂

    Hey Dan, I have a 1975 Leyland mini, and my old man got a 1923 Ford, we usually put a few mills of fuel stabilizer in the tank when we know they're not going to be run for a while. It keeps the fuel fresh and never goes off. 100% of the time it works and will start the first time even after sitting for 4+ months. Maybe give some a try in the Holden, let me know your thoughts. Diff and box breathers.... Firewall mounts are common and to be honest, lazy crap. Feed to the inside of the airbox which should stay dry. You get water in there, you got bigger issues.
    Reasoning: Mounting in the engine bay will likely result in smells inside the cabin and if you know diff and box oils, they stink. Airbox will see the smells burnt off.

    • @bentheguru4986
      @bentheguru4986 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BenMitro Another tip is be carefull with PEX style lines and their quick-couplings. These with constant movement move and can leak. PEX is fine for fixed mounting but you won't beat rubber and nipples for the areas that move a lot.

    15:30 My Courier is a hilift RWD model, but I put a breather extension on my diff that is up as high as the fuel filler cap (just below the rear window of the crew cab). If it ever sucks water, I have more problems than just water in my diff :)

    Nah, I've had 98 in my GTI and my wife's GTI sitting for 3+ months during lockdown and it did not gum the injectors in either car. Both are high pressure direct injection, not low pressure port injection The ethanol in 91 and 95 is far worse, especially in a carby car where it will rot out your fuel hoses. Don't buy "98" from that servo again.
