Xenonauts is one of these games where you go all the way from imperial guard cloging enemy with bodies to ultramarines in power armor and planes shooting black holes at UFO. And yet at any point, reapers are a mence.
this is essentially all X-COM esque games in a nutshell. throw bodies at the enemy in the early game and then in the late game you're throwing the aliens bodies onto a giant pile in your store room because you have so many.
I'm glad they changed Reapers for Xenonauts 2, now it's not a guaranteed kill anymore. Always bothered me, no matter how much armour and health you have, you're always guaranteed to die if it touches you.

I think what I love the most about Xenonauts is that the vehicles are actually useful. In most other X-Com like games, the vehicles are just worse, un-upgradeable soldiers with slightly more armor. Here, though, they are forces of nature that can take tons of damage and dish it right back out, just as a vehicle should.

@@robob4465 I didn't consider that. I mostly use the scout car for demolition work; it gets the xenos running scared and gets rid of their cover. I already have two shield bearers but maybe that will help me out. Thank you!

Then you get access to Power Armours. Two kinds. One is near unkillable walking tank who can wield LMG like pistols and can take as much damage as the actual vehicle tank and the other is flying, only slightly less armoured and with 270 deegre vision suit straight from Legacy of Aldenata. Add to this MAG weapons which are entirely new technology crafted by humans with limit set by atmosphere itself and those xenos never stood a chance :D
Heheh. I remember keeping the skies clean with MiGs throughout most of the campaign, until I was able to fully replace them with Marauders. Didn’t even bother with building Corsairs.
I find them to be absolutely amazing at killing off Fighter squadrons; one with Gatling Lasers/Plasma/MAG can kill off entire Heavy Fighter teams single-handedly, but sadly at a certain point they just aren't fast enough to keep up with Interceptors. There WAS an unimplemented 'Super-Corsair' called the Saracen, armed with three cannons and fast enough to keep up with Marauders.
You should do an Early game vid where you are like a PDF squad that is just hopelessly outgunned and has -10 morale until it leads to this vid curbstomping the Xenos. But it'll cost a mountain of corpses to get there.

That’s how I usually started assaulting the downed UFO - by breaching the doors. The xenos had a nasty habit of kiting my troops, by opening that door, firing at my troops and closing it again. It was really satisfying to blow said door up and see some purple guts splattered all over the hallway.
Someone has redraw the main menu scene with everyone angry at you and people behind them screaming, The screen behind them also displaying the last unit hold out alone in a building.😂 The redraw was so perfect similar to the loading scene.
My only experience of Xenonauts comes form watching DDRJake's "ballistics only" challenges and there the xeno scum never dropped with such frequency. In fact it was routine that only half of the human squad returned form any mission... if the stars were right.
Once you got lategame fighters and weapons I gotta imagine the aliens are like "how did they do that?!" Sure, they're dribbling in the invasion, but from some bunker they can't destroy or bomb, there are a team of Soviet and American Skunkworks engineers hand machining and assembling these monsters.

One of my favorite mods for this game from the workshop is the one that increases the number of civilians and local military forces. On missions with reapers it gets out of hand fast in the best of ways.
Last game I worked on was Xenonauts. If you like X-Com, check it out! Imo best X-Com style ever. I'm biased, but I think it's better than those new X-Com games.
This video singlehandedly made me buy this game. I got frustrated and refunded it later on, but with the sequel coming soon I think I'll give the series another try.
1:05 I absolutely must know where you got that "DIE" line from. I know the "Hello?" is Balloon Boy from FNAF 2, and "DIE" is clearly a 40k Space Marine (probably from one of the _Dawn of War_ games), but knowing exactly where I could find it would be really nice.
