I just realized why I love this skit so much: it's kind of like the musical version of Jenga. You want to see how many songs they can stick in there before it falls apart.
+lllllGreenDaylllll It's really hard to hit this when you before the show don't make a voice preparation. Too high.... Jordan missed first note too. :D
This is probably my favorite vid with this song on it, by just simply watching the people in the room behind. 3 then 5 then 4 then 6 then they all start rocking out to their favorite song of the medley... ladies and gentlemen, if you have ever wondered why people get into music or the performing arts, that is it. The smile on a face, a tapping foot, lighters in the air, tears streaming down faces. That is it!
Not suitable for radio * rolls eyes * When did people turn into such a bunch of whiny cry babies and why did it happen. I'll never fucking understand the censorship.
I still find it funny that if you think about it you can basically say that any four chord song within the realm of a major scale is about 1 out of 21 times going to be transposable translatable or some other movement to the same chords.
We did something like this at my choir this morning, but it was in a easier key, and we made it up as we went along, and we were singing them over each other (e.g. I was singing hey soul sister whilst my friend sang take on me, and another sang titanium)
Popular music is just a music formula that every artist uses to have hit singles so they can push their albums. It's played in the same key because we're so used to hearing the same keys that most things we hear in that tune sounds good to the general public. Originality in pop music can never be successful because we're being played.
many song writers have known this for a long time and have exploited it. Axis have exposed it and are not the first to discover it. There are other common chord progressions that use only three chords rather than 4. Have used this 4 chord progession myself and worked out this common pattern many years ago but used it to write my own song as many and most songwriters have done. Talent lies in making something new and original out of it.
I don't know the chords, but the right hand on the piano goes E and B, B x4, F# and B, B x4, E and B, B x4 and C# and A, A x4. But I also know that all these songs fit in C, G, Am, F, which is a really to play on guitar and piano.
He can nail it, watch a live video or something to see it, It's a hard note to reach so getting that close is still quite impressive. Hey, i guess you don't congratulate someone for coming second.
That's exactly 2 notes down from the standard G D Em C. If it were D A Bm G like Mr. Lee claims it would not transpose into those four chords like it should. As such, you're probably right.
TBH; if we ever face extratrerestrial contact and have to form a World-Hymn to represent our Planet... it will be written on those 4 chords, anything else would just not be right.
After a while it’s clear they have the same chords, but the melody (The hardest part sung) is totally diffract. So what’s their point? You have to hand it to them they are buskers who hit the big time with this one point.
A decade on, and this is still one of my absolute favorites
@thenocturnallogician thanks mate
I love how every time I hear a new performance of this, they change up a few of the songs they patch in.
It would be great if they did a 2023 update.
@@theodorehsu5023 Sadly they are no longer a band. Broke up in 2018.
@@razorswc I admittedly hadn’t known it at the time, though doing a one-off wouldn’t be bad for the public.

Just look at the videos did since this one, they keep changing.
First time i heard Benny not hitting the high note in Take On Me.
+lllllGreenDaylllll someone really need to loop those 2 seconds
The obviously ironic "Oh Yeah!" by Lee and Benny's "really?" made me laugh tho ;)
+lllllGreenDaylllll It's really hard to hit this when you before the show don't make a voice preparation. Too high.... Jordan missed first note too. :D
+Jiří Černý Not to mention sitting down and leaning forward. Not a lot of wiggle room for the ole diaphragm.
+lllllGreenDaylllll Benny said nearly bro :)
I know that's an old proverb…
Pop musicians … play 4 chords infront of millions of people
Jazz musicians … play a million chords infront of 4 people.
Less is more :D
@@chazychazler4048 if less is more, imagine how much more more would be.
the same goes for Rock musicians

Now THAT I like!
Benny's voice is just fantastic. And that harmony at 3:34 is perfect. I could listen to just that part all day xD
Axis of WHOLEsome is just so adorable to watch

I love their medley....40 yrs playing 4 chords:))
Bennys voice is really good btw
This plays out a lot better on stage
Always a few new different songs for each time they sing this. :3
So chuffed I found this version with zombie featured. R.I.P. Dolores. 💙💙
"im a birdplane! a mutherfucking birdplaaane!"
What I like about that song is that it suits to anyone and, of course, the irony that they included in the 4chords skit, simply sweet!

This will forever be my favorite version of the song.
it kills me that he switches the lyrics in happy ending but I still love this song
I miss these guys
The Kingsmen/Merlin accent for country roads🤣❤️😭😭😭

Yet still some of these songs are great
I want Benny singing a full version of Paparazzi
Listen to Greyson Chance...they're about the same size.
You make the chording for singing look so easy. I've been writing songs for years, could never find the right things to make my songs work.
as yu see, all you need is four cords lol
"check me out I'm a bird plane" (nice clean up for radio)
Just a take from a different part of the song.
different part of the song bro
I lol'd at "check me out, I'm a birdplane.". I was wondering what they were going to do!
They added Canvas Bags! So much happy :-D
+flikcbigg Take your canvas bags to the supermarket :D
Thanks Jordan. You're a hero of mine.
i just love it that they pay homage to the god, Tim Minchin,,
This is awesome
I CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL
Talent! Talent! Talent!
Love AoA and 4 chord song !
when he says its only four chords, my face lights up
Just waiting for someone to comment that they heard this live on the radio
We did something like this at my choir this morning, but it was in a easier key, and we made it up as we went along, and we were singing them over each other (e.g. I was singing hey soul sister whilst my friend sang take on me, and another sang titanium)
To be honest, I think Benny was actually standing. It's kind of hard to tell.
More than 10000000000 likes for this very beautiful song !!!!!
Love it
love you benny!!!

you can play this chord progression in any key
Yeah but the point still stands
Robert Burns - using the Four Chords before Pop music was even invented.
Benny, Youve been performing this for years and you still havent learned the lyrics to Take On Me smh lol
They get Happy Ending wrong too, It's "no hope, no love, no glory" they switch hope and love.
@@Mercuerian take on me is a great song.
Lol
High note fail
@@mattnar3865 They do that on purpose to go with the story they are telling with the lyrics.
This fucking moment he sang "Common barbie let's go party.." and then a quiet "WHAT? xD" So great.. XD

Aren't those what the Animaniacs used for their two note song?
brilliant!

i love this guys so *___*
That's right. I need to take my previous piano lessons of learning notes, but for melodies not songwriting, not chording for singing.
Get this song in the charts oh wait it is in 50 different versions
😂
If you're watching this in 2022, smiley or thumbs up.
This vid should be shown in court by Sheeran's lawyers!!!
WOW ... Thank you

omg Tim Minchin canvas bags
The Music is very cool.
I just can't stop looking at that indian folks on the television behind them.
Superb:)
thank you heaps
the producers in the back is hilarious
I swear they made this only 5 minutes just to be polite. This could easily be a 25 minute mashup and still not nearly cover everything.
Is it bad that i know all the words to this? xD
+JustKeepBreathing lol xD loll no.. because it's ACTUAL SONGS!!!
xD Yeah but I don't know all the songs. Just the bits in that xD
+JustKeepBreathing same here :D
why would it be
Same
About a minute in I'm sure the people in the studio next looked over and hit talkback so they could hear it
hail the man on the keyboard!!
Benny is a musical genius!
@Ruudsosalsa yes, axis of AWESOME!
awesome xD
Nice
Lee is bald now, jordan's made some (cool as hell ) physical changes, and benny HASNT CHANGED IN THE SLIGHTEST
Why are Jordan’s changes cool as hell? I’m not saying saying I’m not happy she’s happy, but cool as hell?
yea good for him hope he's happier, but cool? No sorry. If something is cool it's something everyone wants to do.
It's probably all that gnocchi he eats
@@eolsunder ever heard of subjectivity? Cause saying “if something is cool then it’s cool to everyone” is really stupid my dude

Not specific notes, numbering system. I V vi IV, lowercase = minor
That is fcking awesome :D
Even 4:14!?
Zyrus Smith He was close, give him credit for that.
Close to awful.

I don't congratulate people for butchering a note that can easily be hit with a simple falsetto.
Seriously Ed Sheeran should absolutely use them in his defense 😂
I think he did
He did !
I love the John Denver part =D
i like the new version
Live performances are hard.
I'm a bird plane!!!
I really wanted him to hit the note on 4:20
Which are those 4 chords ? I would like to learn them
1000th like!
Am i the one watching the people in the other room doing their thing? Lol
Letting them sit prevented Benny to hit the highest chord at 4:16 :/
You guys are totally awesome! NOW you've totally convinced me of how much a scam the pop music industry is!!! hahahahahaa
They do it with Heywood Banks as well.
Every time I hear, "I want to make love to your baby," I think twilight.
4:02 I think "Jack Black" (the middle guy) hears the same thing X'D
Who was first? Axis of Awesome or Rob Pavaronian?
Well, I think that is technically still a line in Birdplane, so...
If you look at the tv at 2:22...It just goes with it. hahaha
Do you mean major or minor of these?
That's exactly 2 notes down from the standard G D Em C. If it were D A Bm G like Mr. Lee claims it would not transpose into those four chords like it should. As such, you're probably right.

What are the 4 chords?
Where exactly did i ask for chords?
Man. Jordan’s voice ain’t the same
So people know the exact chords: E, B#, C#minor, A
B# happens to be C my friend. It's just B
Oh good point. Sorry, I meant B
You're right with the specific chords for the key of E, but you can do it with any key. The progression is I V vi IV

what song is at the part when he sings "yeah mama the shally is a dream " or smth like that ??
"sex and candy" by Marcy Playground...yeah mama that surely is a dream...
