LOL, I have to laugh. Tula loves you so much and puts up with you hanging her upside down and doing the Heimlich maneuver on her. How special is that? You have to love dogs. They are so special.

I had to do it to my dog when he was right around a year old. I didn’t know about turning them upside down, I just sort of did it the way you would on a human. It worked, thankfully. He’s a Great Dane mix, so it was sort of like doing it on a human anyway. lol

Tula, one special fur kid! Thankfully, I've never had to do this. I have done heart compressions and mouth to mouth to keep my Boston alive with his enlarged heart. He's in Heaven now.

Thank you for these emergency medicine videos. I share them with all my friends and family who have dogs! I actually had to do this for my 15 yr old golden who choked on a stick just last week! Thankfully, she recovered well!

I had to do it years ago with my bearded collie who had stolen half a block of butter off the bench and inhaled it and couldn’t breathe. He whipped around and bit me on the face, regurgitated the butter and while I was holding the bleeding wound by my lip in shock he promptly ate it again. Gotta love dogs! ❤️🤪😆

First, your Tula is about THE most patient and agreeable demonstration sidekick ever.
Second is a PSA for all -- always make sure that any balls your pup likes to play with are too big and roughly textured to swallow easily.
We once had a horrible scare with our Doberman Shepherd when he got hold of a racquetball our Labrador liked to play with. The Labrador never chewed on it. The Doberman Shepherd did. Because a racquetball is so slick in texture, that combined with the larger bite size on the Doberman Shepherd caused it to shoot down his throat and lodge part way down his throat blocking his airway.
He started to panic. I made a dive for the dog and got him in a bear hug to immobilize him, then yelled for help. Thank God my husband was home that day! As I held him, my husband had to work the ball back up his throat.
As soon as he could breathe, he shook it off and was fine. We, however, were quivering wrecks. And we made a Sherlock Holmes worthy sweep of the yard removing anything even remotely swallowable. From then on, that dog got to play mostly with large softball sized balls and above. And if you have a mixed pack, try to make sure that the smallest size of ball still cannot be swallowed by the largest dog you have.
Third -- how do you do the Heimlich on a dog you cannot lift? All ours would be too big for this approach.
I wish I new about three weeks ago, couldn't get the food out of her throat and she starved from oxigine defistioncy, but I'm truly grateful that you are on top of things,

Here’s a video idea happened to me. My wire hair fox terrier swallowed a bee. It stung in her throat. Throat swelled so she couldn’t breathe. I was frantic. So I cut a piece of garden hose, shoved it down her throat, threw her in the car on my lap and drove to vet (close by). Doing this all while driving a manual transmission and holding hose. It ultimately saved her life. This stuff happens.

Thank you for this. My dog just ate the stuffing from his toy as i was trying to clean it up. He got it stuck somewhere on the way down and was making awful sounds trying to regurgitate it but was unable on his own. Was salivating everywhere too. Performing this maneuver on him wasn't easy as hes like a 90lb ball of muscle and was scared cuz he didn't know what was happening. I'm sure it wasn't pleasant for him but i was successful enough doing this maneuver and moments later he spit up the gross stuff. He seems much better now, thank you so much for this. I was scared for him but had to figure out how to help him on my own since there are no vets near me or open within an hours distance. May have just helped me save my pup's life.

Your video saved my dog’s life this morning-he was at the dog beach and got ahold of another dog’s smaller ball which became lodged in his airway. I pulled up your video and successfully expelled the ball (along with his breakfast)-thank you so so much 🫶🏼
