Another gift from one of my all-time favorites!
Once upon a time a couple decades ago I was a barista at Gloria Jean's in downtown Louisville, KY. One day I made a drink and spilled it on the counter in front of my customer as he was about to pay. Just moments before he had told me he was in town as part of Natalie's road crew (stage manager maybe?), and she was performing that night a couple blocks away at the Palace. I spilled the drink because my hands were shaking after he asked me if I liked her music (OF COURSE!) & offered me 2 tickets to be waiting at the box office that night when it was obvious I did. I was nearly sure I'd lost my chance after spilling his drink...but I didn't. The tickets were there and she was just as incredible as I expected. When she took a moment to ask the audience for a song request, I knew I wanted to hear her sing "Ophelia", but I was too many rows back for her to hear me. The next best thing happened though; a girl in front said "thank you", and Natalie replied, "you're welcome". I remember thinking, "who even pays to sit up front and requests a song they don't know the name of?!". I will never run out of smiles for that memory! ...the song is "Kind and Generous". I wonder if the girl knows why that happened?
