      Yes it was a great time for music. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Local bands were Sly and The Family Stone, Santana, Eddie Money, Jefferson Airplane, Boz Skaggs, CSN&Y, The Pointers Sister's, CCR and more.
      Live music was affordable and accessible. Now it is a luxury. Have you seen concert ticket prices these days?

    • @scottlarson1548
      @scottlarson1548 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adc2327 But for *most* of the people in the country we grew up listening to maybe five radio stations playing the dullest music available. We would occasionally see strange bands on SNL like the B52s and Devo but to us they were just one-off bands that made no sense.
      For example we didn't even know New Wave existed as a music style until around 1981 when a guy moved to our town and brought his records. He made tapes of his favorite bands which we had never heard of before. These tapes were passed around school, then fans of this music went to the record store and ordered the albums out of a big catalog. Of course 95% of the kids in school had zero interest in these weird bands.
      That's the musical bubble that I and millions of other kids grew up in during this period.

    Another great mix of music, a wide range, with lot's of soul and blues. Wicked Wilson gives another excellent job as host (and singer). Brian Auger and Brenda Patterson were unknown to be, but they were so good, I don't know how. I have loved "My Maria" for years, but this is the first time I've seen B.W. Stevenson, so much talent, so little time. I know Spooky Tooth by reputation and by the fact Gary Wright and Mick Jones started in the band, first time I've heard them, I will go back and listen to their albums. The Chi-lites (From Chicago, know I know where their name comes from) Oh Girl closed out my 7th grad spring dance, I was too scared to ask a girl to dance, but I remember being there. I caught up on the live chat. Salt and Pepper hair with brown streaks, Pickwick's "Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack, mom would let me join "Columbia House", but I ended up paying for my girlfriend's monthly 8-tracks. I had K-Tell's Rock hits of 77. Side note K-tell speed up songs slightly during recording and eliminated the space between songs to cram more on the albums. Another wonderful trip in the Way Back Machine, thanks Burt!

      @@maverick6722 Really? I hadn’t heard of him before as I saw Petty and the Heartbreakers in ‘79. Stan Lynch-drummer was the powerhouse of the band~per Tom Petty. I didn’t follow the band in all their changes and figured Stan stayed with them until the end. What amazes me is how much lead guitarist Mike Campbell resembled Jimmy page in looks~mannerisms, ever see it too? Someone pointed it out to me and now I cannot not see when looking at them play in the beginning’s, what a fantastic band.

    Great show. Wicked Wilson Pickett, such an underrated talent. Enjoyed marching along with the Chi Lites as I watched. Thanks for the upload

    Jim Croce died the day before this show aired, after making an appearance on 9.14.73. I wonder if there will be a tribute to him.

    Serious dude playing a Bigsby Telecaster behind the Chi-lites. It really sounds nice. You can heart it through the mix.👍

    Freddie's Dead. Wow. WLS and WCFL in Chicago played this a lot. Shaft I think. So much was going on then but the format of all mixed together was starting to separate. My Maria? I remember the song but can't/// Good. Spooky Tooth bled into Dream Weaver and Foreigner too. I think Canned Heat lost 2 members before the band on this show. Back in the days when record companies either put dollars out there for you to develop and go on the road or you got neglected. It's so different now. But Midnight and Don Kirschner's were such treats. There was little else but Dick Clark on Saturday mornings and then....Soul Train...No Video's to rent or buy. No Internet. You got a good surprise on late night shows or waited with bated breath for your songs and bands. Wilson Pickett doing the Associations Never my Love. Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles did the Chitlin circuit with him and called him the wicked picket. Thanks for the post and flashback.

    The episode after this from September 28, 1973 is another great one. It was hosted by Seals & Crofts, and it also featured appearances from Paul Butterfield's Better Days, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Arlo Guthrie, Leo Kottke, T. Rex, and Uriah Heep.
