RE: the hats: it's like how in the LEGO Star Wars games, you can blend in with the Stormtroopers just by putting on their helmets, even if you're not wearing armor. And Chewie's helmet doesn't even fit
When i used to go to legoland as a kid i would see the big hypno cruiser and always wonder what it was because i never knew what time cruisers was, but it always stuck out to me as a really unique build. Kid me wanted it despite not growing up with it, and i think it shows the theme’s “hated” designs resonated with kids, and AFOLs who always hate on these sets never seem to remember that the primary audience was kids, not them.
If you're talking about the big time machine model they have on display at LEGOLand California, that's actually its own unique design called the "Imagination Time Machine", not the Hypno Cruiser, though it is in the same style as the Time Cruisers sets. There's also another time machine depicted in the LEGOLand PC game, but that one was based on the H. G. Wells design.
I think Time Cruisers is one of the most misunderstood themes Lego ever made. It's a tribute to the inventiveness and fun that makes Lego what it is. It's whimsical, not serious; if I wanted a serious looking time machine, I'd go make one myself. I mean the Time Twistsrs use a Belville bathtub as the base of one of their ships. Was Tony Twister taking a relaxing soak and thought to himself "you know, you get some thrusters on this thing..." Great review Slugger! 1. I love the idea that Timmy and Dr Cyber can just blend in with hats. It's very campy, fun and makes for easy play. It also makes it a lot easier as a kid to have them combine with your other sets. I find it interesting they throw a Unitron helmet in there, given that Unitron barely had any sets released. 2. I think the colour combo works really well here, and I think you're right that the Hypno Cruiser is one of the best sets that summarizes Time Cruisers. 3. In a way, Time Cruisers is a perfect "linking" theme. For a kid, it provides a link between all your separate Lego sets. You can time travel into the future and join the Exploriens on a scientific mission through space, or the past to the kingdom of the Royal Knights and have a joust. You can help the Adventurers in Egypt and then head to Mars to fix a broken recon mech for the Martians. I'd love to see Lego do a time travel theme for their 90th anniversary, where a group of time travellers go between old Lego themes. It would let them combine all their old sets and lines into a cohesive theme.
I agree wholeheartedly with so much of what you're saying here! 👍 I had thought it *was* a Unitron helmet too, but none of the minifigures I could find wore that exact same helmet+visor colour combo; still, I think Unitron was the intention, haha. I would have *loved* to see the Time Cruisers receive some recognition during the 90th Anniversary, but oh well...
4:45...I think the cuteness of this theme is something I’d missed until now. I can definitely see the potential this series has when combined with a number of other Lego sets in a kids collection - this theme gives them an excuse to pop around all the different sets and bring them together in a creative mishmash!
Yay!!!!! Once I saw the thumbnail I celebrated! This was my first ever bricklink order. Always wanted this one as a kid. Thank you for the retrospective. Building the set doesn’t provide the ‘made of left over pieces’ sure it has that aesthetic but I wouldn’t say it’s a left over parts bin. Mine sits proudly as the centrepiece of my inspiration shelf.
That's awesome!! Absolutely - I didn't really talk about it, but the build of this thing is great! Challenging in some areas, but overall very satisfying. I'm happy to hear there is another Hypno Cruiser owner out there who enjoys it as much as I do!
I do a few shows and I need to make like a time warping effect/explosion. I want to incorporate it into my display, so as I progress through each show and display different Mocs it will be travelling through all the different scenes/themes. Just like in the comics from my childhood as I progress through the themes of my child hood. That’s the goal anyways.
The time cruisers line feels a kid's random moc built from spare pieces from myriad wildly different classic Lego themes, and thats why I love it so much. It feels like pure Lego ethos.
Welp, just went and bought a Hypno Cruiser! I notice these older sets really did seem focused on giving kids the full experience. Timmy and Dr. Cyber show up together in nearly every set. Heck, even the Time Twisters make sure they join together in their largest set. Robbie the Robot is the only character that seems to be exclusive. Really shows how Lego wanted kids to be able to jump into the universe without having to beg for the entire wave of sets. Nowadays you'd be lucky to get the full cast in the flagship set. I shudder to think of a Time Cruisers alternate universe where Dr. Cyber is kept imprisioned behind a $100+ pricetag.
Felt it appropriate to come back and mention with all the Lego Castle inspired sets that have come out in recent years, I've not only got a small Lego Castle diorama going on, but have went and included Doctor Cyber and Timmy to the mix, properly disguised as you'd expect to minimize their footprints on the course of history. When I first watched this retrospective series I thought it was a bit sad that there was only really one location set. But then I realized the beautiful part of Time Cruisers, the locations are your other sets! Truly an underappreciated theme, Timmy and Dr. Cyber could've been as iconic as Johnny Thunder has become despite being retired for two decades now. The concept of characters who seamlessly fit in with any and all of your lego sets regardless of theme would fit so nicely with the message The Lego Group encourages with mixing and matching your themes regardless of whether or not they belong together! Also now considering finding a way to have the Time Twisters muddling about with the Pirates diorama I have.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Time Cruisers/Twisters sets came out when I was 10/11 years old and I wanted them all! This was the set I had, and I thought it was absolutely perfect. The way the parts moved, all the little bits and pieces from multiple other sets, and the details - just *chef's kiss* and it makes me sad to hear it so maligned by some people.
This was a set I became envious of that my friend had. There were so many vibrant colors and Timmy was such a cool figure compared to the "regular" plain faces and single colour figures from the previous generation of Lego at the time.
I love the way you break down even the tiniest of details about these sets, like the hats, and rationally explain them with fun photography. So entertaining! The fun you have playing and taking photos comes through in your videos. :) I wanna say I love the shots of Timmy and Dr. Cyber blending in among the other themes, and the shot of the 3777 cityscape. I also love the idea of a modern reimagining of this set! I owned at least one set that included Timmy... I don't think it was this one, but this series has made me want to go digging into my oldest Lego storage bins to find it!
Thank you! It's so fun to play around with Time Cruisers, haha. If I had to guess, the random Timmy you have might have been from a Freestyle set - not Time Cruisers. Timmy (and the Doctor) made a number of appearances in that theme, (which I will make a video on after I'm done the Time Cruisers sets).
I totally agree. Loved this set as a child. Especially the cosy cockpit area 😄🥰 Although i admit that the cruiser is not aestheticly finished all too well, it was creative and left so much room for imagination and the whole time cruisers theme was so cool to play with cause they are compatible to all other themes since they could travel everywhere and -time. Great channel btw 😊
I thoroughly enjoyed the time travel justifications for the modifications you made! As much as I'm in to cars and Lego, I never took the time to consider what my favorite Lego wheel style was. Right now I like the first style of Speed Champions wheels, but back in the day, I think maybe those rear wheels may have been my favorite. They had a good size, offset, the axle made them capable of being power-driven, and the space on the inside gave them a good squish factor. At the time, I remember them being a little small for technic or anything built with a 9V battery box and motor, and too big for a basic system car (especially if attempting to build four wide). I clearly wasn't thinking outside of the box, and may have just been ignoring it due to how many of them I had compared to those wheels with the thick blocky treads that are still used to this day.
I've been collecting these wheels (in sets of four) in many different colours - I can't wait to try my hand at building some different vehicles with them! Some of the colours (like Red) are tough to get a set of four of because they only came in a single set that contained two of them... 😅
@@RRSlugger - I bet! I don't remember what colors I had, but I'm 99% sure I don't have any red. I'm pretty sure I have yellow and black. I definitely have my fair share of weird wheels, though; the lime green Znap wheels come to mind.
@@RRSlugger - I actually got them from a non-Znap set, too! 4095 "Record and Play". Upon looking that up, I was reminded of some odd all black plastic wheel and tire combo (in one piece) that I also apparently have a pair of thanks to that set, and it just happens to look kind of like the wheels you were collecting.
Around 3:52, that style of wheels was actually first introduced in a Technic set (8225) from 1995. Though I never had any sets containing it myself. Also, the solid red dragon wings would be phased out after appearing in a set (6087) from the "Fright Knights" theme from 1997.
This video introduced me to a lot of new Concepts I didn't know about the time Cruisers theme and also I like the idea of the future modifications that has been done to the Hypno Cruiser overall pretty well done
This set screams Back to the Future II. The delorean esque design, and also the feature of disguises (akin to Doc Brown keeping emergency money) really feels like this is the ultimate "legoized" unofficial BTTF set
It's really nice to see someone else who appreciate the Time Cruisers theme - I really like it just from pure nostalgia, and my wife loves it, claiming it's the most fun and creative theme in Lego range :)
Thank you for covering this theme. The flying time vessel was actually my first lego set way back in 1996. I look forward to seeing the rest of the sets reviewed from you.
Thank you for checking out the channel! I’ve finished the Whirling Time Warper script and voice over and have started work on the Flying Time Vessel; it’ll probably be a couple months before we see that one in full though.
The "Hypno-Disc" you mention is exactly the name of one of my favorite robots in the UK show Robot Wars, sporting a lethal flywheel with a spiral design giving it its name. I made and played with my own version of the competition - driving the robots around by hand of course - and I'd recreated Hypno-Disc and used a trans-neon orange disc from Ice Planet 2002 for its flywheel, mounting it on a stud centered on a 2x2 turntable so it could spin. I wish I'd had one of these sets for the printed piece!
I felt like you were so ready for another hot take this video. Come on Slugger make the claim lol. I am amazed how good of a set this is. The extra hats really take it to the next level. Kind of reminds me when I got a Lego Classic set a few years ago with a wizard hat and some other hats/helmets thrown in seemingly randomly. If you have enough imagination all you really need is a good hat to make a pirate, knight, wizard, space character etc. Btw really cool storage bins. Storing in style and stack-ability ;)
0:27 Awww man, I used to have this one when I was a kid. My parents gave away my toys as a I grew up and had already stopped playing with them... they should've made an exception with my Lego...
The golden age of LEGO for me were the sets featured in the first LEGO Racers game, I loved that era with the Adventure sets and eventually Rock Raiders, culminating in Bionicle then I stopped caring about LEGO in general till I got old.
I keep seeing that Life on Mars Red Planet Protecter in your videos and I’m reminded of how I cannot wait for you to cover the theme. I’m sure it won’t be for a bit considering that you still have the rest of the pc game builds for Rock Raiders and the rest of Timecruisers to do but I’m still really looking forward to it. It’s also kind of bittersweet to see the Red Planet Protecter though, since I had it as a kid but cannibalized it for parts for another build that I was working on at the time. Well, anyway, great video as always and I can’t wait for the next one!
This kinda makes me want to get the Hypno Cruiser. Time Cruisers isnt my favourite theme, but still, I would happily take it back in the modern catalog. In my eyes most ppl hating on this theme dont understand it nor its potential to children. Sure, if we talk about sets that are great for display, pirate ships, castles and the like stand stronger, which is what we Afols often want. But we cant forget, that back in the day all of these were made as toys for kids. And as toys Time Cruisers are fantastic, especially if you have a few sets from other themes. The theme is misunderstood and umderappreciated.
When I was a kid I lived in a poor family and couldn’t afford Lego. I used to only get the $5-10 sets once or twice a year. I used to get the free Lego catalogs and browse through them for hours. Me and my brother used to come up with schemes where we could try to earn money to get the cooler sets. Back then this was one of my favorite series, I used to want them so bad. I never got them though. Now that I’m an adult I earn lots of money and was thinking about getting some of these older sets. But watching videos like this is almost just as good.
Wow, that's such a cute little set, I enjoy it a lot. I wonder why people think it's terrible? Must make it cheap, though! I hope, after this series wraps, we see Dr. Cyber and Timmy in every series afterwards, at least once; they are time travelers, after all! And that storage tub! What a goofy addition! I love that! THAT'S mid-90's LEGO!
Time Cruisers is so affordable right now, haha - hopefully these videos convince some more people to give the theme a try! Having the Doctor and Timmy pop up in future videos is one of the main reasons I wanted to do Time Cruisers next after Rock Raiders, haha. 😊
When I was a kid (maybe in 2007 or 2008) I got a box of loose assorted Legos from a relative. From your videos I'm finding out he must've been a Time Cruisers fan - he had a couple of those whirly disks, the monkey, all the hats, the dragon wings, and the big boat part. Also, a lot of Life on Mars aliens too.
Oh this thing is really cool looking. I always liked the weird hypno disk sets as a kid and forgot what the line was even called. It's really nice knowing that these are so cheap because no one likes them...A lot of the sets I like from older themes are fairly expensive things so it's nice seeing I could grab a neat set I like second hand that isn't pricy...
I love how when that article at 1:04 has the plagiarized bit begin, the first sentence they mildly edited accidentally lost its space between the period and the first word.
Just found your videos recently and I've been jumping around your back catalog in no particular order. I've seen this set in some of the stop-motion footage and thought some of the elements looked familiar (the harpoons, mostly) but it wasn't until you said the yellow engines were exclusive to the set that it fully clicked: I'm pretty certain I had this set when I was a kid, albeit disassembled within a bulk bag of bricks my parents got at a thrift store. Just a very cool connection to make, almost 19 years later
That's awesome! I never had any Time Cruisers sets as a kid other than the Rocket Racer, but giving them a shot as an adult has been a lot of fun! Welcome to the channel too, by the way! I think you'll find a lot of great stuff in the back catalogue. 😊
I was expecting you to have the Free Storage Tub, but 10:06 I gagged when I saw two of them! I should know better by now! I've only ever seen one in person but own none. At least I own the Hypno Cruiser.
It was the weirdest thing; I bought the only one for sale in Canada at the time, then got into the habit of taking it Lego shopping with me in public - eventually I ran into someone who looked at it and said, "hey, I've got one of those!". I offered to buy theirs too, and now I have two of them! 😄
Something about the Time Cruisers sets always resonated with me, and I just got my first one, a Hypno Cruiser, a couple hours ago. Found an almost complete copy at the local Bricks & Minifigs store, it was only missing the propellers on top (sadly I don't have a direct replacement so had to improvise), but came with all the hats, figures, and even instructions, and I remembered you mentioning that was the one to get, so I had to bring it home! I especially like the monkey. Why doesn't LEGO still make those monkeys?? They're fantastic. Anyway, great set, I love any vehicle with parts that move as you roll it along :) These sets just capture childlike imagination so perfectly, truly some of the most "LEGO" sets of all time.
@RRSlugger Thanks! I'm also happy to report my Dr. Cyber has a good torso print, no smudges or scratches. When I showed the set to my family, it reminded them of various rides from Legoland and agreed that it was very whimsical and fun :)
I actually kind of agreed with your compliments to the whole _Time Cruisers_ theme! As a whole, _Time Cruisers_ reminds me a lot of how _The LEGO Movie_ blended plenty of themes into one theme, like _City, Western, Batman, Castle, Collectible Minifigures, Pirates, Classic Space,_ and a bunch of other cameos like Lloyd from _Ninjago_ or Johnny Thunder from _Adventurers._ It's kind of hilariously hypocritical when people criticize _Time Cruisers'_ lack of cohesion, when _The LEGO Movie_ is just as guilty for being a myriad crossover between plenty of LEGO Themes. (The film did try to handwave this by revealing that the whole story was simply fabricated a kid named Finn. who was playing around with a bunch of his dad's LEGO Sets. This is also implied with stuff like Cloud Cuckoo Land presumably being built out of hand-me-down LEGO bricks, and its inhabitants are mostly hand-me-down, broken Minifigures like Benny, or miscellaneous Minifigures from themes like the _Collectible Minifigures_ theme.)
Heck, the whole designs of these vehicles remind me of the days when I was a kid, and had a limited selection of LEGO sets and thus, a limited selection of LEGO bricks to work with. Some of my favorite MOCs as a kid where hodge-podges of vehicles made using leftover parts from a _SpongeBob_ set. (Though I do remember building a LEGO City police car by mostly using parts from a 2011 LEGO City BrickMaster book, as well as a few other random pieces I had lying around. It ended up being a pretty cohesive build for how simple it was!)
my older brother must have owned this set because the red dragon wings and yellow jet engine pieces were always lying around in our lego box and i had no idea what they went to.
Got this set recently, I'd have to agree this is the perfect LEGO set, which is saying a lot, as I have no nostalgia for it. I love how zany it looks and the spinning parts are so playful and fun. Currently waiting for a pick a brick order to put in those half stud 2x2 plates, to make it truly perfect.
I actually have parts of this set that I got in the same bin of Lego's in which I found the Chrome Crusher, but I never bothered to try building it. I don't think it's complete.
@@RRSlugger lego city is fine but it dials back a lot of the creativity or aesthetic seen in similar themes. Hidden side is a perfect example because it mostly is those typical city things except they all have this run down seaside town vibe.
Ah! But part exclusivity also accounts for colour and this was the only set to include them in Yellow. The *mould* may have been used elsewhere, but this is still an exclusive piece. 😊
I actually got this set and the smallest one with boxes at a flee market with a price of 300kr (~30 USD) I don’t know if it was a great deal but I got it at least and I’m happy with it. Also a thing that I think is cool about the box is that it’s the only one i know that has a see trough glass without those flipping things on the older boxes
So is this the Time Cruisers equivalent to the DeLorean time machine? Looks like it to me, and it’s a neat looking one too. I wonder what the Time Twisters equivalent is?
So, what I am hearing is this is Copyright-Safe "Back to the Future." You have Doc Brown (Doctor Cyber), Marty (Timmy), and Einstein (Ali). Just like Johnny Thunder is Copyright-Safe Indiana Jones. The '90s - 2000s really was LEGO's golden age, right? I am not the only one who thinks so?
Sitting here watching, thinking "I can maybe make this with what I have..." THOSE ARE THE WHEELS! (I used for Rocket racer) After a bit of fiddling with the pressure being held against the tire, the propellers make me grin ear to ear pushing it around on the table. :)) I wonder if the kid had this set? Bought off his grandma on FB.
While it was before I was old enough to play with these LEGO, I still find it interesting, if slightly confusing to look at. It makes sense, but still feels weird, I can't help it.
I can see why the design of the set would be offputting to lego fans, especially if they're more familiar with the newer and sleeker builds of recent years. While I can't personally say I'm in love with the set, I agree that it's far from the worst efforts Lego has put out. Especially given the era of Lego at it's release, it seems like a perfectly adequate set and one that deserved to sit among its peers, albeit maybe not as outwardly impressive as some of them
Thanks rr slugger I am a big fan of time cruisers you helped me find that I owned the hypno cruiser you made great videos I was messing around in my grams basement and I found we have the tote to thanks again
I think tbid is one of the sets that really benefits from modern curved parts. The blockiness sort of makes the different themes blend togeather with the futurism a little too much for my own tastes though i appreciate the intent, and I feel like some more modern parts could really make those disparate elements shine
I spotted a chair mounted on a 2x2 plate modified with pin, and that just blew my mind! What a brilliant review, now I have to rewatch Time Luisers again and see Timmy hesitating between disguising himself as either Joh Candy, Pirote or Space 😂. There are rumours of a new Brick to the Future theme. It's weird that TLG isn't calling it Back to the Future, which lets me hope we'll see some Time Cruisers and Twisters reappear. We'll see...
Maybe an illegal technique, haha, but it worked for that shot! Starting every day with Time Luisers is a plan for success! Personally, I think the whole “Brick to the Future” thing is just Lego securing the rights for marketing. Maybe it’ll mean more Back To The Future sets, but surely not an original theme under that name, lest Lego wants to be in the legal crosshairs.
Someone should try to convince LEGO to bring back the Time Cruisers theme. I would love to see what they could do with this theme with the pieces they have now.
Don't have much to say on this one, I never had it. I will say I do like the commitment to the play feature. What is a supposedly controversial opinion called? A hot take? What ever it is called here is one. The best thing about Lego is it is a toy that can be any thing. The second best thing is a set is something. Personally I love mechanical gimmicks like we get in Time Twisters. I enjoy figuring them out before building, or using them to teach.
I like the time theme as much as the next guy. But I don’t like the trike car look. The trike looks more time twister. Then time cruiser. I like the rest. I just the others more. I’m still probably going to buy one. Could you do a video on how to make a more car, looking one?
Hopefully you had a great vacation! 4940 is my favourite Rock Raiders set, so I definitely recommend it! 😊 I am still making Rock Raiders videos, but Time Cruisers is one of several series I would like to cover as well.
@@RRSlugger thanks! i remember owning a red lego plane as a kid, and i've been wondering for years what set it was. i'm not sure this is the one, but it could be.
I will say, I love the play features and the builds look solid, but I just don't like the colours. If I had to guess, I'd say a fair amount of critics of the theme feel the same way and just add some common criticisms of Lego sets in general onto it to make their opinion feel more valid. Great video as always!
After rewatching this episode yesterday, I decided to look for offers on ebay, and found a complete set with instructions for just 16€ (24,69 CAD) with free shipping! Finally, my first vintage LEGO set! (edit: added CAD conversion)
I really love this set, and I am gonna get it, if I get good deal on eBay or bricklink, I really want to attempt to modify it in such a way to make the wings flip up and down, the only complaint I have is that Timmy minifig still doesn't look good, I have bought Dr. Cyber a few years back and create a Timmy by removing the dot from in the eye of a city minifig, I personally think it looks far better
This was a weird set that I think I had as a kid. It has too many different mash ups to ever scrounge the original back from the parts bin at my parents'.
I know this is the opposite of the point here...but for the first time, I’m realizing that if I removed all the Time Cruisers extras, I’d be left with a really interesting sci-fi car or ship. That’s really impressive to me, and I almost want to build one in the style of Futuron or something! When I look past the distractions, I can see a really quality build. I’d never been able to do that before
@@RRSlugger was mainly looking up the twisted time train set after seeing it briefly mentioned in an article online and wanted to find out more about it.
@@MissHashshashin That’s another great Time Cruisers/Twisters set! I probably won’t get to that one for another couple months, but it’s well worth picking up. 😊
Careful there Slugger, pointing out plagiarism in the Lego community is one slippery slope to go down. You don't have to look far to find discrepancies like that but, it also isn't very hard to land in the pit of drama. But nonetheless, I'm glad someone has finally put effort in giving this set justice.
I swear I commented on this one. Weird. Anyway, thanks for pointing out the attention to detail in this set as the little touches really give it character. I can see how at first glance it might seem messy or ungainly, but that childlike zaniness is exactly the point. Cold humorless boring adult logic should be checked at the door before evaluating this or any of the other Time Cruisers sets. That said I have to ask: Why did they packaged they choose a storage tub to package this set with? Storage tubs and Lego go hand in hand, sure, but the Hypno Cruiser - a bonkers time machine car - seems like such an odd set to pair one with in particular.
Can I send you by Email the images of my Hypno Cruiser MOC ? It's one of my favorite MOCs, but I need to say that it doesn't have a lot of gimmicks and it's more of a "set reboot"
You have gotten a lot of use out of that "coping with a high iq" image huh I never had any of these sets but I thought they looked cool, even moreso after finding out about the Timebuster comic (and sorta accidentally helping kick off people rediscovering it without even knowing what it was at the time). These videos are honestly the first I'm hearing about this theme being hated.
No need to reinvent the wheel! Haha, my entire philosophy behind content creation like this is to build up a "bank" of photography and stop motion animation to be used throughout the videos, adding new material when necessary. I'm shocked that you never ran into disdain for Time Cruisers! In my experience, it's been everywhere; from top 10 worst lists, to snide internet comments, to even meeting AFOLs in person who rip on the theme. 😟
@@RRSlugger I guess I haven't really spent much time in those spaces, more in places related to Lego games. I probably have seen something but don't remember it, I just know I always thought Time Cruisers looked cool in the magazines.
@@RRSlugger oh okay! It was my understanding that elongated curved pieces in general were plague pieces. Regardless, I love your redesign and was only poking fun!:)
RE: the hats: it's like how in the LEGO Star Wars games, you can blend in with the Stormtroopers just by putting on their helmets, even if you're not wearing armor. And Chewie's helmet doesn't even fit
That's right! I forgot all about that, haha. Cool to see that gimmick still getting some love!
Was Tony Twister taking a relaxing soak and thought to himself "you know, you get some thrusters on this thing..."
Great review Slugger!
I had thought it *was* a Unitron helmet too, but none of the minifigures I could find wore that exact same helmet+visor colour combo; still, I think Unitron was the intention, haha.
I would have *loved* to see the Time Cruisers receive some recognition during the 90th Anniversary, but oh well...
"Was Tony Twister taking a relaxing soak and thought to himself 'You know, you get some thrusters on this thing...'"
I can't believe Tony plays Gmod
Tony Twister really said
"We are making it out of bathroom with this one" and flyed away with his bathtub through time and space
96 was a very good year for lego tbh, tho pirates were runing out of steam by then
Western was a landmark theme that came out of 96 too!
I love the way you break down even the tiniest of details about these sets, like the hats, and rationally explain them with fun photography. So entertaining! The fun you have playing and taking photos comes through in your videos. :)
I wanna say I love the shots of Timmy and Dr.
I wish they'd make an updated mold for that old more pose-able monkey :(
I don't understand how anyone could hate this series. It's just such a fun LEGO theme
Finally watching all videos I missed. Gosh you are amazing creator putting so much creativity and fun in it! Amazing job, and please continue!
Thank you very much! I’m working on the next one right now! 😊
@@RRSlugger Keep up good work! (And be carefull of rock monsters ;) )
@@CarsSimplified Ooooo, I love me some Znap!
Thanks! ❤️
I think your wife has a point! 😊
i may of been too young when i was born to have these themes but i love them so creative
NOW THAT MOC AT THE END IS A MASTERPIECE
I felt like you were so ready for another hot take this video. Come on Slugger make the claim lol. I am amazed how good of a set this is. The extra hats really take it to the next level. Kind of reminds me when I got a Lego Classic set a few years ago with a wizard hat and some other hats/helmets thrown in seemingly randomly. If you have enough imagination all you really need is a good hat to make a pirate, knight, wizard, space character etc. Btw really cool storage bins. Storing in style and stack-ability ;)
I won't, but I'd like to... but I won't...
...but I'd like to.
0:27 Awww man, I used to have this one when I was a kid.
My parents gave away my toys as a I grew up and had already stopped playing with them... they should've made an exception with my Lego...
Just bought my copy on ebay. Super excited to build it after this vid, great work as always.
Hope you enjoy it! ❤️
Well, anyway, great video as always and I can’t wait for the next one!
...and Alpha Team first, I'm afraid. 😅
I hope you're still watching my videos in 2023...!
Absolutely! You consistently put out quality work so I’ll be here! I’m a Slugger fan for life!
this set is honestly incredible, I love it
Me too! Definitely not "one of the worst Lego sets of all time".
I got this for Christmas as a kid. i hated it, but grew to love it and got the villain set for my birthday.
I must agree with you. This set is lovely! Can't wait for more Time Cruisers films ❤️
@@RRSlugger Naturally! I mean, I love seeing Chief and all, but he has no logical reason for being there. Those two, on the other hand...
i really felt the love in this video
Wow
I got that purple tub at a garage sale with Lego's inside. I had never noticed it was branded until this video o.o
Excellent! Welcome to Time Cruisers! ❤️
As a whole, _Time Cruisers_ reminds me a lot of how _The LEGO Movie_ blended plenty of themes into one theme, like _City, Western, Batman, Castle, Collectible Minifigures, Pirates, Classic Space,_ and a bunch of other cameos like Lloyd from _Ninjago_ or Johnny Thunder from _Adventurers._
It's kind of hilariously hypocritical when people criticize _Time Cruisers'_ lack of cohesion, when _The LEGO Movie_ is just as guilty for being a myriad crossover between plenty of LEGO Themes.
Absolutely! I love the idea of a LEGO theme that can bridge other LEGO themes, and Time Cruisers was exactly that! ❤️
my older brother must have owned this set because the red dragon wings and yellow jet engine pieces were always lying around in our lego box and i had no idea what they went to.
Man I wish lego would make more original themes even if it was to get rid of stock. Monkie kid came out like 4 years ago and ninjago is… ninjago.
I'm with ya there! I'm definitely tired of *everything* falling under the City umbrella.
@@RRSlugger lego city is fine but it dials back a lot of the creativity or aesthetic seen in similar themes. Hidden side is a perfect example because it mostly is those typical city things except they all have this run down seaside town vibe.
9:05 Actually the "aqua boosters" aren't exclusive. They're actually jet engines from earlier Lego City planes, nor was this the last set.
Ah! But part exclusivity also accounts for colour and this was the only set to include them in Yellow. The *mould* may have been used elsewhere, but this is still an exclusive piece. 😊
Awwwww yea!
Great video as always ^^
Definitely! They wore their inspiration on their sleeve, but were still able to add their own imaginative spin on everything. 😊
Haha, it really has one of the best play features for its size! 🙂
While it was before I was old enough to play with these LEGO, I still find it interesting, if slightly confusing to look at. It makes sense, but still feels weird, I can't help it.
Your videos are amazing. I now want to buy this set. 😫😫
Thank you! ❤️
Hopefully you will be able to find it affordable!
I can see why the design of the set would be offputting to lego fans, especially if they're more familiar with the newer and sleeker builds of recent years. While I can't personally say I'm in love with the set, I agree that it's far from the worst efforts Lego has put out. Especially given the era of Lego at it's release, it seems like a perfectly adequate set and one that deserved to sit among its peers, albeit maybe not as outwardly impressive as some of them
Sheriff’s lockup is prettty gooooood
It sure is!!
Thanks rr slugger I am a big fan of time cruisers you helped me find that I owned the hypno cruiser you made great videos I was messing around in my grams basement and I found we have the tote to thanks again
I meant you make great vids
Thank you! This is one of my all-time favourite LEGO sets - one that I never had as a kid! 😊
I think tbid is one of the sets that really benefits from modern curved parts. The blockiness sort of makes the different themes blend togeather with the futurism a little too much for my own tastes though i appreciate the intent, and I feel like some more modern parts could really make those disparate elements shine
I really enjoy your videos bro
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying them! 😊
Love your videos 👍👍
Thank you! ❤
I've got to pick this one up at some point!
Absolutely! It's definitely at the top of my recommended list when it comes to Time Cruisers.
@@RRSlugger a speed champions style DeLorean would be welcome, and I'm hoping maybe some time cruisers Easter eggs
@@RRSlugger a speed champions style DeLorean would be very welcome indeed. And I'm hoping maybe for some time cruisers Easter eggs!

Another great set from 96! ❤
That modernized Hypocruiser looks sleek
Thanks! 🙂
Someone should try to convince LEGO to bring back the Time Cruisers theme. I would love to see what they could do with this theme with the pieces they have now.
Wow you weren’t kidding when you said those “worst lego sets” lists are copy paste jobs. Some journalists those guys are
Don't have much to say on this one, I never had it.
I am still making Rock Raiders videos, but Time Cruisers is one of several series I would like to cover as well.
@@RRSlugger В наборе 4940 что то есть интересное. Он такой прикольный. С буром из Power Miners не сравнится)
what's the red plane at 1:19 ?
You’re looking for set 6615! 😊
@@RRSlugger thanks! i remember owning a red lego plane as a kid, and i've been wondering for years what set it was. i'm not sure this is the one, but it could be.
I'm sure this set isn't for everyone, but calling it one of the worst sets of all time is a massive stretch!
I will say, I love the play features and the builds look solid, but I just don't like the colours. If I had to guess, I'd say a fair amount of critics of the theme feel the same way and just add some common criticisms of Lego sets in general onto it to make their opinion feel more valid.
Great video as always!
I think I have this? Or I *really* wanted to have it specifically for the robin hood hat lol
After rewatching this episode yesterday, I decided to look for offers on ebay, and found a complete set with instructions for just 16€ (24,69 CAD) with free shipping! Finally, my first vintage LEGO set!
(edit: added CAD conversion)
That's a screaming deal! Well done! 😮
I had that tub!
I would love to see a photo of your custom Timmy minifigure! If you want to send it to my email, please do!
rrslugger@protonmail.com
This was actually my very first LEGO set.
That’s awesome! What a great little set! 😊
I’d never been able to do that before
I think you're right! I wonder what it would look like...?
Huh odd I was just researching on time cruisers earlier today when this pops into my recommended......
That's awesome! What sort of stuff were you looking into? I've done a fair bit of digging on the theme as well. 😊
Very true - not a hill I'm willing to die on, haha. 😅
At 7, this set was my first rage quit.
It honestly just could be because the box size fits squarely in the lid of the storage tub… or maybe it’s a chicken and egg thing? 😅
Can I send you by Email the images of my Hypno Cruiser MOC ? It's one of my favorite MOCs, but I need to say that it doesn't have a lot of gimmicks and it's more of a "set reboot"
Welcome over to the Manic Miners discord server and share your MOC with Rama and more people!
Absolutely! rrslugger@protonmail.com
So thats what you used the lego sets for
You got it! Just a couple of photos that I needed for this video, haha.
Who here owned this set?
Still own it too but in storage for my future kids to inherit
You have gotten a lot of use out of that "coping with a high iq" image huh
I never had any of these sets but I thought they looked cool, even moreso after finding out about the Timebuster comic (and sorta accidentally helping kick off people rediscovering it without even knowing what it was at the time).
What an absolute mess of a set :)
Great parts in retrospect, but as a child I would probably have skipped this.
Your future version of the hypno cruiser uses a few plague pieces🫢🤔
It uses some curved elements, for sure, but none of the specific culprits from 2002 to my knowledge?
@@RRSlugger oh okay! It was my understanding that elongated curved pieces in general were plague pieces. Regardless, I love your redesign and was only poking fun!:)
