- How can MLS finally get the Mexican American soccer fans and Liga MX to care about MLS? They signed Giovani Dos Santos, Chicharito, and Carlos Vela but didn’t move the needle. I brought Eric Gomez on to talk about it!

I believe the best way to get Liga MX fans to start following MLS is for MLS teams to start dominating them head to head. I am Hispano (not Mexican) and I follow several channels from Meclxico that cover everything Inter Miami because of Messi so I think continuing to add big name players from Europe will help but not nearly as much as beating the best Mexican teams for a few years consistently.
Beating the Liga MX teams more consistently is the first step for sure
I mean MLS teams are already consistently beat liga MX teams. It a pretty equal as of right now and it’s projected that MLS teams will surprise liga MX in the next 10 years. MLS has the recipe to be a better league.
Beating, yes. Consistently, no. In Mexico, also no.
@@ronridenour243 pretty consistent over the last 5 years.
@@wadeflores6978 I’m all in for MLS consistently beating MX, but in the last five years by my reconing we have won it one time, two years ago with Seattle
2019 Mexico Monterrey (4)
2020 Mexico UANL
2021 Mexico Monterrey (5)
2022 United States Seattle Sounders
2023 Mexico León
Before that it’s all the way back to 2000 for another American win.
The wins that have happened are almost always built off of winning at home and not getting beaten too badly away in Mexico plus the rare tie. I think FC Dallas won away one time and Seattle also did but that’s it. If we are going to consistently win the cup then we need to start consistently winning away in Mexico
If Columbus wins at Pachuca next week then it’s two out of the last three and there is something to talk about but Columbus was the only MLS club in the semis. Let’s hope Columbus puts a smack down on them and we can look back on this time as the turning point. To make that a reality though Garber and the boys are going to have to loosen up the purse strings and get better players at spots six through ten on the rosters.
I think one big thing with Mexican fans will be that some fans will be fans of their father's team, it usually becomes the family team, and in a lot of cases the kids follow, theyve got generation after generation of this, i just dont think the US is there yet
Yep. My Friend is a 1st Generation Mexican-American, but is Split between Club America (Mom) & Cruz Azul (Dad).😅
@AKUNJIG ill use myself as an example I live in England and its a similar story to Mexican fandom here, ill use myself as an example, my grandad and most of my family are Arsenal fans, so I became one too when i was a kid, the US will probably get that one day but it'll be further down the line
I mean MLS is pretty much there. I have friends who have children, their kids are Sounders fans because their parents are. I also have friends who grew up watching liga MX with their parents, they still have a level of loyalty with this Liga MX Clubs, but now they are Sounders fans first. MLS is teams are converting fans and as the league gets better it will win over the Liga MX fans. For those that don’t want to follow MLS…that’s fine, continue to watch you flop fest league and enjoy watching MLS dominate them moving forward.
It's going to take many Generations for Liga MX Fans to watch MLS. One thing I fear is MLS losing players to Liga MX after Cruz Azul approaching GG from Atlanta.
It's been happening since the beginning of MLS in the 1990s, actually. Been 2 generations already.
I think it’s going to happen soon. Liga MX are taking an interest in MLS just have to keep them interested
Just stumbled across your channel as a Mexican-American who doesn’t watch or doesn’t care for mls at all I live in Houston btw I think it will come with time the league has no history like for instance, my team club America has been around for more than 100 years like my grandfather’s father was a fan of them. It’s been in my family. For your We have rivalry with Chivas for more than 100 years MLS doesn’t have that and signing Mexican player won’t help that all it does is tell the Mexican fan that that player career is basically over it’s still seen as a retirement league over there and around the world so Mexican and Mexican American wouldnt care as much for the player.
Also what ppl forget is that when you have a club that been around for so long it it inspires a different type of loyalty that MLS clubs just won’t have because they don’t have that history like for instance I don’t live in Mexico City, but my team is club America I follow them because it just doesn’t represent the city. It represents my family. It have been with us for generations and I don’t think MLS clubs are there yet these clubs are four years five years 10 years old you don’t have that time
Leagues Cup Showcase at SOFI, 2022, LAFC-America & Galaxy-Chivas. LAFC & Galaxy fans were well-represented. If anything, LAFC fans stole the show - th-cam.com/users/shortsH0qcLaY0hqM
As a Mexican American i watch both since I was little
Love to hear it! Both leagues are fun to watch
BIZZAR-O WORLD nonsense discussion. L.A. had 82,110 at the Rose Bowl, and the crowd was representative of the demographics of L.A. We had 44,000 at LEVI'S Stadium for Cinco de Mayo, LAFC vs San Jose.
Bring Chucky Lozano!
San Diego is looking good!
Mexican TH-camr who covers Liga MX, vlogs at the 2021 ALL-STAR Game - th-cam.com/video/uZ6DMcC1hgY/w-d-xo.html - She comments multiple times on how impressed she is at the pro-MLS/pro-LAFC crowd. Notice, the L.A. crowd came alive IN RESPONSE TO the Mexico/Liga MX fans.
What's Eric talking about? Puebla played Chicago Fire and Minnesota in Leagues Cup 2023, not the NY teams.
I just got to that part... Both of them are talking our of their ass.
We are at the point that pandering isn’t needed anymore and can be to the detriment of a team, I was glad when the Galaxy stopped doing this we are much better off now, I would rather have the right players then a player that doesn’t fit and only there to sell shirts.
When did Galaxy stop doing that?
@@davidday2373 just recently when they got rid of a bunch of people holding the club back
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣ahhMLS fans. Ya something else.
It’s weird because it’s a rivalry, and ligamx fans constantly troll calling it MLZzz and such. I know we shouldn’t care what they think, but it’s a ton of banter right now. I think respect will bring fans, and respect will only come when it’s oh crap, MLS keeps winning CCC
I think Leagues Cup helped bridge the gap into fandom. A lot of people have favorite teams of both leagues
Liga MX fans troll their own league as a stagnant, boring league.
So now MLS has a Mex-American fan problem? Is this a joke? Food for thought, huge Mexican comedian vlogging at LAFC: th-cam.com/video/PmJ7Ju_XFAI/w-d-xo.html , Same comedian, but out of character, says he feels at home with the Mex-American crowd at the stadium, says he converted friends to LAFC fans: th-cam.com/video/s_c4JfG7irw/w-d-xo.html
They do. How many Mexican American soccer fans are in LA who don’t care about LAFC or the LA Galaxy?
@@MLSMoves What do you mean, it's probably about 70% of LAFC/Galaxy fans who are Mex/Mex-Americans in So Cal. I live in Utah, been to RSL games, decent amount there. TH-cam vlogger/podcasts I watch of other teams (Charlotte, Austin, Miami, NY) are Mex/Latino. I dont know where are you getting this idea from?
I like Liga MX pace of play better. - an American with no Latin heritage
Liga MX is appealing. We need more Mexican Americans supporting MLS but they need to be given a reason to support the league
Pace of play. Actual fans. Viva Ameríca
@@MLSMoves it's not going to be identity politics imo. They could capitalize on the Mexican football system no longer having pro/rel and jump on that and I think that would work.
I understand that would put clubs at risk, but that's why I think fans would be more interested.
@@ICYMIKE indeed. Far more passionate fans. MLS irks me bc of their corny agendas too - Liga MX just plays football - which is why I tune in.
- some American dude, wearing his Club America shirt, about to be on his way to get tacos from the local food truck.
Hope you have a nice weekend bud.
MLS is a retirement league that has no history, too many teams.
They gotta get out from it being labeled a retirement league, in which so many players MLS signs for star power is retirement.
The idea that you think 3-9 Mexican National players would change people’s love with teams like Chivas, Monterey, Cruz Azul, Atlas, Pumas, Pachuca, and most importantly Club America is insane.
Living in Mexico City is better than living in Kansas City. It’s crazy talk.
I don’t really care if they sign older players as long as they’re still good
@@MLSMoves one of the challenges of growing this sport is more investment in lower leagues and moving to a 20 team league with Pro-Rel.
MLS doesn’t have 100 years like Club America, so manufacture some drama and make people care. Because, I live in Chicago and want to be excited about the team, but man…identify crisis in logo and kits.
Doesn't matter how many Mexican players come to MLS, it's just a boring league to us Mexicans. The league has no real rivalry. The league is low quality and its overall boring. MLS has no futbol culture, no flavor, the media is boring. No drama, or fandom that liga Mx has. Does MLS have some Mexican American fans? Yes, not that much.
I hope that changes one day.
I'd agree on some this, but saying it's low quality is dumb and shows a lack of honesty. It's a hair below Liga MX. After the top 4-5 teams, it might be better. It seems inevitable that the quality of MLS will surpass Liga MX relatively soon (5-10 years). The gap has closed a lot in recent years.
No its not. MLS Is the only league we care about.
You sound like someone who has NEVER watched a single MLS game. But w/e go and watch your flop fest in Liga MX. Enjoy watch the Mexican national team be at the bottom of concacaf moving forward.
@cynpulse LMAO “we have no Soccer* culture”😂🤣😂🤣. Firstly, it’s called soccer (deal with it) secondly, come to Cascadia and say that. You will get laughed out of the region. There is a rich history of Soccer culture in the United States, you just don’t know it because you don’t pay attention it.
MLS is better than Liga MX
You’re trying to get the people riled up lol
@@MLSMoves Just a little, but it looks like they are all cowards 🤣🍻
@@MLSMoves How come you didn't say the same thing to the Liga MX fan above who said MLS is low quality? :) Show some 'nads.
It’s better at having 20 extra teams of the most mid players and 😂😂😂😂
@@ICYMIKE You could say the same about Liga MX. Most of the teams are mid. But MLS is improving at a greater rate than Liga MX. It's just a matter of time before it's better.
