The best drama is found in comedy, and the best comedy is found in drama. Anything trying to do only one without the other is never going to be as good as something that finds the right balance of both.
If you pay attention, you can tell that Kashiwagi (the girl that asks for love advice) has a lower score now because she spent part of her time helping her boyfriend to study (and his score in the ranking went up as a result).
Idk if you noticed, but the moment kaguya imagined herself in the shirogane family, the narrator said "kaguya was starving for familial love" It's important for the story and her character.
couple of translation errors here. 1. it's not the "final exams", just regular exams. it's still the first term of the year; 2. it's not been four years in a row, but four times. Miyuki only entered this school last year.
I also love this aspect of the show of being able to switch between a funny and serious direction because it also mirrors how I think friends should be able to act. There are lots of times in uni I try to interact in a more important, deep topic but people are quick to kinda turn it into a haha funny moment and evasively change the subject when I really just wanted a genuine, thoughtful conversation. It's really annoying.
Pretty sure the 'four years in a row' thing is a translation error. He's gotten first on four tests in a row. I'm less sure about this, but I believe that the tests are held five times in the academic year? Despite the subs calling them finals.
Kaguya's scene with Ishigami was really good! But damn, if you're getting so emotional over this one already, I can't wait to see what it's gonna be for 'the good stuff'!
let's be honest, a real genious would never lose in a school test if he/she tried to win, i guess the call her a genious cause she is talented even at grown up topics like economy and stuff, which is fair enough. Loved the Ishigami part as well, people spreading rumors are trash.
Just as an fyi, the english dub and especially the english narrator are absolute gold too. He's (imo) more in line with the ridiculous energy the characters give off if you wanna check that out one of these days. Definitely one of the rare dubs that's on par with the source material.
he falls flat when it comes to the emotional moments imo, which is why i prefer sub for a first watch and it’s my overall favorite. (along with nothing being worth missing out on kaguyas VA)
@@dreamz1417 there are so many dub moments that are just peak... "muthaflipping tsundere!" "accidental lock-up hook-up!" "and that's why she's BEST GIRL!" So yes the dub is def worth it if you want to do a rewatch when you're done with a season. I'd be down to watch it again if you guys did that
ah yes. the sudden shifts between comedic and serious situations without it breaking the flow or sounding out of place . a specialty of this story

in Japan they have final exams to cap off each of the three semesters.

You two should watch Komi Can’t Communicate next.
Miyuki Shirogane's voice actor is the same as Saitama's voice actor

I alternate on my rewatches between the sub and the dub. I love them both, for different reasons
