    My first brand new car was a 1971 electric blue Javelin. I jacked it up with shackles and put G60 with chrome reverse wheels. It cost.$3400 from the Rambler dealership. I didn't think I would ever be able to pay it off.

      I DO NOT! I spent thou$and$ on Old AMC "Sh-T-motors" back in the Day where even Penske-Donahue and Giants such as Hot Rod magazine were "tripped-up" by the POOR DESIGN of the Mains on ANY given AMC V-8!!! It's an INSULT AGAINST a GREAT-Handling, BETTER-Styled Javelin to "Bother" rebuilding ANY V-8 AMC, especially a "mouse" like the 304! That car should get an "LS", --a recent HEMI, or even some version of an FE, rather than leaving a "boat-anchor" like a 304 in that car. Sure, you've Doubled the hp,--that's COOL, but it won't "Last"! If ANY car co DESERVED to "go out", it was AMC, because instead of "fixing" their 'mains-problem', they just had another 15,000 360cu" blocks CAST to service the mains-oiling issues under warranty, passing the PROBLEM-ON to those to be VICTIMIZED in the used-car markets. ANY FOOL that thinks AMC V-8s are any Good has YET had to pull one with a "spun-bearing"! I've dealt with 2 AMC big-blocks that had had spun-bearings, so I have EARNED my opinion by my Stupid "faith" that the AMC V-8s were any good. The AMC V-8, MAY last, IF:--it's a "dry-sump" conversion motor,--you rebuild frequently, or you have an auto-trans, rather than a stick-shift manual. Did you guys ADDRESS the oiling "weakness" of the AMC V-8 on your build? I certainly HOPE so, because if you haven't, some street-warrior is going to "win" some evening, and that car will "spin a bearing" in the Am. If GIVEN to Me, I wouldn't own an AMC V-8 in an AMC, without a dry-sump oiling system and/or an Automatic tranny. The Mighty Penske-Organization suffered 23 mains FAILURES in Trans-Am racing, until they moved to dry-sump oiling and a custom, TRACO-block. You could SAY AMC defrauded folks with 2 Trans-am championships, because Penske used dry-sump oiling on a NON-AMC V-8 block for most of its won races, to be able to "win" twice.

    Some brake rotors are below the minimum by the time you need brake pads. Having them turned is not an option. This happens often on German and Swedish cars. Also, be careful when selecting brake pads for those, sometimes they don't feel the same when using ceramic to repalce the OEM semi metallic. It's probably best to buy pads advertised as OE matching compound or something like that. Some companies will sell you them OEM pads but cut out the middleman for a discount.

    The 304 from the factory was pretty much a turd. AMC stroked the 290 and 343 .160" to get the 304 and 360. This was right at the beginning of the smog era so the 304 was detuned, low compression and restricted to a 2 barrel carb. I'm not sure if the air pumps and shown up yet. Plus the 304 with its smaller bore (3.750 versus 4.080) had smaller valves even though the heads (290 thru 401) were all machined on the same transfer line. Plus the bump stick profile had been changed*. The heads also had smaller ports.
    *Today if you want to switch over to a different cam profile it is simply a matter of loading a new program as the grinders are CNC controlled. At that time the cam grinder would need to be partially disassembled and the master cam swapped out.

    no mr salesman aluminium does not dissipate heat better than copper brass, it's not viable to repair or rebuild an aluminium radiator, nor does it last anywhere near as long.

    • @CanadaBud23
      @CanadaBud23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it does. Copper will dissipate heat with direct contact just as well as aluminum but aluminum will dissipate far faster at a higher capacity in open air.
