    Hey Andrew! Check out Kreigsmaschine "Residual Blight". One of Darkside's finest moments. There is only one video of him playing one part of the song. However, Kevin Paradis, drummer for Benighted, did a drum cover of the song and it is incredible. I highly recommend watching Kevin's rendition of "Residual Blight" and have your mind thoroughly melted.

    I saw them late last year and while I was sad that the gold glitter drum kit wasn't there, it was so mezmerizing. Their music just makes me feel an emotion I simply can not describe. The way he hits those cymbals is just simply impressive. They are one of the best Black Metal bands ever tbh.
    As another video I HIGHLY recommend is Kevin Paradis playing De Gloria Martyrum et Confessorum by Autokrator. He is their session drummer and the drumming on that song is incredible.

    hello, I started playing drums when I was four, I stopped when I was 16/17 to devote myself to synthesizers...you made an interesting reflection about the exchanges that Darkside makes when playing with the right hand, what drummers usually do they play with the left hand and vice versa... bear in mind that you study different percussion instruments at the conservatory. instrument such as the xylophone fall into this category. you learn the ability to play each piece with both hands. we generally learn to play drums if we are right handed by holding the hitthat on the left and playing it with the right, and after years and years of practice we get kind of stuck in an academic form which IMHO makes us limited.
    I've always thought outside the box. let's be clear, I haven't played the drums for years and I lost my skills, however I wouldn't have the skills to play with a left-handed set but I think that especially for those who are starting out and want to learn certain genres it is good to learn to play with both hands any piece in any position.

It seems to be regular left/right roll at high speed. What s impressive IS for thé blast he usé at least most wrist than fingers maybe it s because thé stick goes so high. I love so much he s cymbals work

  • @992ras
    @992ras 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok let’s see how much I can help. So he playing a strait 32nd on the bass drum each foot is playing a 16th note. With his right hand at times he playing half time which is matched to his right foot 16th. When he goes to playing both hands he playing 8th notes with each hand on the 16th of the right foot. He also maybe alternating some of the 16th of the left foot as well with his left hand which sounds like the crash parts to me.
    So if I was looking to learn this song I would start by learning the tempo of the 16th then half time and double time that to get my tempo for the 8th and 32nd notesA lot of black metal is any where from 160 to 240 bpms can be faster but it’s not always necessary 32nd super fast loses its feel. A lot times those 32nd sound faster then they are what is mostly played really fast are the 16th notes so a 240 16th note one footed is not always fun to play long periods.
    So what I have learned if you base everything off of 16th notes and lead with you bass drum and snare your riding hand can do what ever you want like Quarter notes if you want. Also you should learn how to alternate you feet and hands and what ever you learn on your hands play with your feet. In black metal a lot times drummers don’t use rolls with there feet and if they do it’s not for those really fast parts but the slower parts.

      No click. You can hear him speed up during the whole song. Especially during the fast fills, normally a place where it's easy to speed up without noticing. On the album this song is the same tempo all throughout.

  • @asbjrnfossmo1589
    @asbjrnfossmo1589 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Luckily, the blast tempo isn't that high, and what makes it work is the consistency of the hits, and what the right hand is up to. The left hand really isn't very difficult, because of the manageable speed. I would guess that 99% of the people watching this video has heard blast beats far, far faster. However, at slower speed, the European blast (alternating hits) becomes much more unsettling than the american blast (both hands at the same time) because the off beat snare becomes so distinct. I think this is around 200bpm, maybe less, but when you get to 270 or 290 bpm, the difference between the two variations becomes almost indistinguishable, because even if you lock on to the off beat snare, you'll not be that far off the pulse.

    People reeeally don't like hearing this when it gets brought up, but it is worth noting that Mgla have a lot of connections with neo-nazi bands and figures in the black metal community. This includes playing festivals dominated by NSBM (Nationalist Socialist Black Metal) bands, being signed to Northern Heritage Records (a label who signs a lot of NSBM bands and is owned and run by a prominent figure in the NSBM scene, Mikko Aspa), and their members have played and recorded with a number of openly and extremely racist bands.
    Folks love to talk about seperating the art from the artist, and I'm not here to tell them what they can and can't listen to. Mgla are obviously an insanely talented group of people and their music is quite unique, even within their own niche. But financially supporting and providing a platform for neo-nazis is something that crosses my personal boundaries, and thought you at least deserved to be informed and to make your own decisions about where you stand on that.
    Love the channel mate, and really enjoy your perspective on extreme metal music as someone outside of the scene.
    Big love xo

    • @spacegrass
      @spacegrass 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you're saying they're guilty by association and not actually guilty of pushing any of their own radical racial ideals; that's why people choose to separate their art from their peer's ideologies cause until they come out and say something, it's not their job to police the community.

    • @posermetal8884

      @@spacegrass If this is what you consider a "guilty by association" argument and that's not a line that you consider against your values then I don't really know what point you're trying to make?
      For me, personally, being friends with nazis and being signed to a label that platforms nazis is loser behaviour and I don't support it.
      I think it's important to give people the information they need to make that decision for themselves, which is all I did in my original comment. No one is telling anyone who they can and can't listen to.

      Lol. You want black metal to be the bastion of good behavior, morality, and political sensibility? What make believe fun world do you live in? Some people don't care that musicians, black metal or otherwise, are often times horrible people and not the best role models. Black metal specifically uses controversial topics to create spiritual warfare within the listener. No real black metal is safe, dude.
