The Rise Of Matvei Michkov
Matvei Michkov has recently closed the book on his first *full* KHL season. He displayed incredible skill as he has throughout his short professional career thus far, ramping up the hype even further for his eventual departure to North America, and the Philadelphia Flyers. Despite concerns surrounding his game around draft time, Matvei Michkov's stock has only rose, and the possibilities for his future NHL career only grow more exciting upon the arrival of fellow Russians Ilya Fedotov and Alexei Kolosov to Philadelphia. Today, we take a look at the rise of Matvei Michkov, a prospect that looks as sure as any prospect ever to be a future NHL star.

Spot on, everything you said except, Konectny is not a top 6 forward on any team. It is sad hes the only thing our Flyers have at the moment.
Macklin Celebrini moment
On the one hand you had a guy Gauthier who didn’t want to play for the Flyers. On the other hand you had this Russian who did everything in his power to make sure he got to play for his dream NHL team the Flyers. Philly fans will love him
Every team including Chicago will regret this. Before draft, many believe he is better than Bedard
Probably the most underrated defenseman in the league.
Ilya Fedotov? Is he taller than Ivan?
See your soon brother! Let’s go Flyers!!!
Philly will welcome him baby......we have a future star ......an actual true scorer
He's gonna term his contract, flyers gonna get him 24 25 season, our historic awful power play is finally saved! Go Flyers!
This didnt age too well 🤣
The Anaheim Ducks almost took Michkov over Carlsson.
Fire the front office and ownership. Clearly former players and coaches are experience success on other teams....
No shit dummy. They all went to contenders, and if you think firing the GM in year two of a rebuild is the right move this just shows how little brain cells you have.
I’ll make this simple and quick. Signing Karlsson to an $11.5 million deal and letting the heart and soul of the team, Pavelski, walk away. Thats what happened. Not even gonna watch the video.
This video seems like a contradiction. The Oilers come back after firing Woodcroft as one of the best teams, if not the best but you’re still complaining. It’s like slapping your wife after she cleans the house for missing a spot on the counter.
six remain...not four
And it looks like there is a chance he'll come for the next season...
Tolvanen and Kuznetsov scored their points in their D+1 seasons while Michkov did it in his draft season. His D+1 season was better than both Tolvanen's and Kuznetsov's. It was the best ever by PPG actually for all D+1 players in the KHL history.
This video shows Datsyuk's flamboyant side, but not enough of his defensive side. And no mentioning his obviously closest counterpart today, Barkov.
They are going all the way babyyyyyy as a habs fan GO OILERS 💪🏻🔵🟠🔵🟠🔵🟠
Now that the season is over, the problem can be revealed. DEI hire Mike Grier. Enough said.
Cutter who?
I hear that, but imagining these kids playing on a line together would've been a dream
Honestly I hope for the Flyers that when he gets there he plays how Torts is getting the team to play…. as soon as I saw Yakupov on the thumbnail I thought about how good he was at the draft
I would rather he come at the end of next season (2025) because they have many picks esp in the first two rounds in next year's supposedly deep draft so I would prefer they be a bottom third team so they can draft the future nucleus to put around #39!!!
Kid is gonna be a stud. Hopefully the Flyers can get him a legit centre before he does.
If Ivan Fedotov made it, I don’t see why Michkov couldn’t make it to the NHL.
Different contract situations
also michkov is said to be a generational talent, Russia is probably gonna do more to keep him than someone like Fedotov.
@@johncody4259 same agent.
Habs will regret
He told them he didn’t want to go there, they made the right choice not drafting him, will they regret who they picked maybe but they shouldn’t regret not picking him because he wouldn’t have gone
I was upset the minute the Habs passed on him. Looked so amazing before the draft and even better afterwards.
every team that picked 2-6 overall that year will regret it if/when he gets here. bedard is the only player you can take before michkov, any other choice is going to look horrible in 5 years or so i feel
@@Boredhockeytime1776did u see hftv tweet about that… If you think he didn’t want to be a Hab, when hftv told him : that he’d love for him to be a Hab, he said: “All they need to do is pick me”
Regret what? Defence wins championships....your comment is just stupid....
Michkov said that he was looking forward to the Flyers 2024 camp and expects to make the team. His agent tweeted it. The tweet was quickly taken down when the error was realized. He has to be really careful about how he leaves Russia. They aren't a free nation and if they don't want him to leave, he'll have to sneak out of the country.
Source?
@@tonybleau6219 Michkov's agent posted on X that Michkov stated that he was looking forward to the 2024 training camp and looking forward to being a Flyer in the 2024-2025 season. As soon as he realized that he was putting Michkov in physical danger, he took it down. So, the source would be second hand from Michkov.
@@darthollpheist1156 I had heard about that but do you really think it's legit?
@@tonybleau6219 Yeah. I know someone that said they saw the "tweet" (I don't know what to call it now that it's "X") and he's a guy I trust. But, who knows? He could be full of shit. We'll see. As a Flyers fan, I'm hoping it's true. He was ranked higher than Bedard for awhile, then Michkov got mono and loaned to a terrible team. It killed his ranking. However, in the pre-draft interviews, supposedly, he asked other teams not to draft him and asked the Flyers to take him. So from the rumor mill, it seems he really wants to be part of their rebuild and play next season. I'm not him or his agent so I can only go off second hand stuff. I'd love to have a screen cap of it or something to have definitive evidence.... but..... you know. It is what it is.
@@darthollpheist1156 It would be really cool! I'm no Flyers fan but I'm certainly a Michkov fan and I really want to see him come to NA to play for you guys 👌 I was pissed to see Cutter doing what he did btw. Those two together would have been absolutely lethal for years to come and I unfortunately don't see the same level of potential in Drysdale.
One thing to note, the Flyers secretly hosted Michkov during the draft process and was the only team to host him pre-draft.
He was the one who actually got in contact with the Flyers organization first and told them he wanted to be a Flyer. I’m not sure his reasons but the Flyers are very lucky!
@@SirHimothyyI’m a flyers fan and the only thing that makes sense to me why he wanted to come to Philly so bad was because he knew Philly would wait for him. Knowing we’re in a rebuild process he probably figured they can wait the 3 years
My personal opinion, is he sees Philly is lacking a superstar and is an incredibly loyal and passionate fanbase. He knows he’s one of the best young talent and maybe he wants to be the ones the fans LOVE and he’s the star of the city
@@stevenborger7664turn out you might have only waited 1 season 🔥🔥🔥
Lets win a conference final before we think about winning a cup
They got rid of to many talent players 😢 hopefully they’ll get Macklin!
Is anybody here in 2024
The Canadiens dodged a bullet there. Phew… Shane’s a bust.
by selecting Michkov over Leonard and drafting Oliver Bonk over Gabe Perrault. I believe that`s the reason Cutter Gauthier didn`t want to play here
Yes, the reason was simply he did not want to compete or have to play in the AHL. He believed on this current Flyers team he deserved to be a top 6 forward and wouldn’t be willing to try to “earn” a spot. And Briere wanted to sign both Michkov and Cutter around the same time to save $ and create a good team.
That has nothing to do with it lol
Hadn't heard that one before, interesting theory. I still think it has more to do with the decision to "make" the team and "play" was going to be up to him and his agent. When the Flyers have coaches in place to do just that. It's their decision, or simply put, the tail doesn't wag the dog. Because management has a better idea what's best for the team, getting everyone to be available at the same time, with regards to salaries, cap etc.
I believe the reason they didn’t draft Perrault is bc of Gauthier. They couldn’t risk Cutter getting in Perrault ear. I’m fine with Bonk
Nah, it's because he was told he wasn't ready for the NHL yet and needed time to improve.. 😂
No 😅😊
No
on paper yes, they arent really missing any piece, even in net skinner has still been better than like georgiev and the avs are still considered contenders. They have a high power offence, two superstars, strong bottom 6, their defence is working and is one of the better cores in the league, but still........ its hockey.
If the Oikers can play like Florida. One for all , all for one. Mess with on facevthexwrath of the entire line. They don't unfortunately
BS
cant wait to see him in the Orange and Black!!!
Not with Skinner/Pickard.
Although skinner's stats may be not that great, after knoblauch took over, he has been a very good goalie
Bettman will never allow a Canadian team to ever win the cup. He lets them go to the finals but has the referees decide the series in America's favour. ALWAYS!!
All the best to them. Got the talent but no grit to their game which takes you place in the post season. They should have made a move on the goalie front while they had the chance, big miss there. Might get to the second round no further. Unfortunate for Canadian hockey fans. Winnipeg will go deeper into the post season this year.
😂😂😂NO NO LUCKY TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS I HOPE THEY LOSE THE NEXT 8 GAME
Not even close
They can't beat Brad Marchand, so how they gonna beat Nathan Mackinnon. Time for the cup to go home again. NOVA SCOTIA...
No
I don't think Colorado or Vegas are scared of them. Dallas probably is...since their goaltending has been a sieve.
The Oilers have 2 legit goalies. Stu is still young but showed great potential to be the greatest goalie the Oilers will have.
Life time Oiler fan and nothing would make me happier I still believe their not good enough in the back end And biggest part I don’t believe they have that killer instinct You can’t play one great period of hockey in the playoffs
