The fact that bleacher report made this is amazing
Cringe
@@guesswhonot1620 wonderful*
@@re11o Nope. The fact that it's still so popular to hate on Ben Simmons and call him a "draft bust" when that makes no logical sense is cringe as all hell.
Theres tons like this in YT.
@@guesswhonot1620question. Would you consider simmons a + in The past few years even on a 20m contract let alone double?
Injuries still matter in bust talks
I can accept failure but I can't accept not trying
If he had Kobe’s work ethic, he would be the greatest player of all time with his passing and 6-10/11 frame
He says he has a bad back
exactly !! His shooting numbers are bad but certainly not the worst. Shaq had worst ffs! Lean on your strengths, basketball isnt just about scoring. He can pass and play D and score when needed. But he just gave up and started being a chain on the team's ankles
@@dgriffin1975 Not bad enough to show up to these wack ass fashion events showing off all his hard earned money lol
@@Grapezzzzcomparing NBA basketball to standing on a carpet tells me you’ve never played organized ball before lol
wait this is bleacher report lol😂
Nah
It’s cos of the author who is Clayton Crowley. Great TH-camr by the way
@@nza1804I thought I recognized his voice. Cool.
The disastrous 2021 playoff series against the Hawks is where Simmons NBA career effectively died missing all those free throws in game 5 and infamously passing up the open dunk on Trae Young in game 7.
Top tier rim protector Trae Young 😂
He came up tiny in the prior 2 playoff yrs. He never developed a game beyond driving, his game is the same since hs and college. He was bound for this outcome once teams figured him out
Trae would have easily blocked Ben.
The last part that you mentioned is the WORST Play in NBA history
It was over before that.
Wasn't expeting that on BR 😅
Raw talent will take you to the table but hard work is what's gonna make you keep your seat.
Facts
Wait, this is Clayton Crowley
lol I just realized this too
Did we know he joined BR? Doesn't seem like a guest appearance afaict
Ben just don't wanna work
Definitely more than that-- he really snapped his cap. Could not hold it together. Sad stuff.
You see him working during the summer don’t you?
Dam, don’t we all😂 but he’s getting it done😂😂
@@TeeMiti-op4wc 😆😆😆
@@TeeMiti-op4wc and what is it translating into? All those videos don’t mean anything to be when he’s not even playing and the dude showed up to practice with what looked like a phone in his pocket
He put this downfall on himself he cares more about getting paid than playing basketball Period 💯🤦🏽🤡🗑️
He’s literally injured. You act like he sat out this much in Philly
@@TeeMiti-op4wc he showed himself to be unmotivated and lazy way before his back injury.
oh well 😂 you more mad about it than he is
@@wolfszn Who's Mad ain't nobody mad I'm just speaking the truth but let me guess you have a different opinion
@@wolfszn imagine being Ben and not being mad at yourself for wasting potential and could’ve been a X factor for a contender team. His defence and his offence awareness was different. But that one play messed him up in 2021 against hawks. If Philly Ben was one the nets.. they could’ve did something
I’m Australian… as soon as he pulled out of playing for Australia, I knew there was something wrong with his head
As soon as I heard of him I knew he would be a bust
i had friends in hs saying he’d avg 27 12 and 10 😭😭
He proly could’ve if he gaf and put in the work
In Shanghai sure
He could have. Look at how he played his rookie year when Joel was out. Sixers won 16 in a row and Simmons was basically putting up those numbers.
Not even if he was 100% healthy. 😂😂😂
He doesn’t have that mentality. Coach Rivers literally destroyed his career before he was plagued by injuries. 😂
with mamba mentality he would have
You know it’s over when BR makes a video 😂
Hell yeah Clayton, great vid
BR making content like NBA youtubers 😂😂
Cos the author is a TH-camr haha. Clayton Crowley
Ben is happy asf sitting on the bench.
Cap
@@auzy2u845 haven't heard him complaining about coming off the bench, he dosent work to improve just to make money
Heavy wallet syndrome. It’s a horrible disease that affects many young athletes.
Although he did get his money, you've got to admit that it's going to be hell for someone that tall to have a back injury. He's literally risking his chances to live playing in the NBA. He was a freaking tank during his prime. If it were any other injury, the arguments would have been valid, but a back injury is actually a serious problem. We wont see ben simmons after this season
Bro got fined almost $20 million, I don't think it was just him looking to get a free paycheck without doing the work.
lol no way. We can’t do the participation award for this guy. Injuries happen but he quit and grabbed his money and stopped trying. How are you a pg and not shoot. Runs away from plays and has 0 emotion. We can blame the injuries now and def any back injury is nasty but he was done before the injuries.
And a big head to boot. 😂
@@ehjookayted69he skipped a preseason, drills and a whole in season in Philly because he lied about his mental health. Stop making excuses for a person that doesn’t even know you.
Dude was just scared to dunk on lil Trae. That's it.
From rookie of the year to bust. He is also not a shooter like a true point guard.
His downfall is mainly due to his obsession for instagram models and beauty fashion shows
Clayton! Congrats on the collab
As a therapist I hated this - at a time people were becoming more sensitive to mental health - he used it as an excuse to quit and blame others cause he was entitled. I live in Philly - followed this as it happened.
I agree 100% It was clear to me he weaponized the mental health clause so the Sixers had no idea how to hold him accountable. And then the mysterious back issues came up. As a Knicks fan I was frustrated for you guys to have a player like him. Never good to see.
well said, mental health problem is real, but he is a goddan multi millionaire, he got the facilities to overcome it, he aint a wage cuck who works 6 days a week lol
You weren't his therapist though.
@@djblue056Whether his mental health issues were legitimate or not, his back problems are definitely real. Nobody undergoes back surgery for kicks. It's just very unfortunate timing and has kept him out for basically the past couple of seasons almost completely.
Not a therapist but I agree with you. He’s a mockery of people that are not talented enough but work hard as hell to try and make it to the league.
He could’ve developed his game. He just aint want to. F em. Simple as that🤷🏾♂️.
Shoutout Bleacher Report for posting this typa video on em
"i don't know that question, or the answer to that right now" is such a hilarious response from doc
Soft. That all there is to it.
Nah yall darkskins jus tryna hate on Ben cus he liteskins an yall jelouse of us liteskins
You get a back injury and lets see how well you do alright then stfup
Yep. After that hawks game I knew he was a certified weenie
I’ll say this… I appreciate how you actually just told his story and didn’t really add any fluff or talk about being a bust and instead ended the video with how he has a spot in the NBA he just needs to find it.
Very nice change from the usual bball youtube videos I watch where people are just ripping on a player they are talking about.
Also ben Simmons was one of the hardest defenders for luka to match up against due to his size+ lateral quickness/ defensive ability
Hang on, is that @ClaytonCrowley I hear narrating this piece?
It seems like it 🎉
I'd recognize that voice anywhere lol
If he retires after this he still walks away with over 200mill. Pretty sure he doesn't care
35% from free throws is crazy, I thought Giannis was bad
Especially coming from the starting point guard who is entrusted with handling the ball and running the offense. I’ve never seen a point guard that shot that terrible from the line.
Clearly mental health, he broke down. Sad story.
Clearly? What about lack of motivation? The man has achieved multi millionaire status, he is living the life he wants to live regardless of how he plays on the court. Not everything is a mental health issue
Well said.
From -> I don't need to shot to -> I don't need to play.
Doc was so lucky that Ben Choked in those playoffs cuz all the attention was taken off him lol
The face he makes while shooting a free throw is one that a person makes when taking a test that wasn’t studied for
Not only that, teams found that this dude couldn't shoot beyond 5 ft from the rim so they let him open, just daring him to shoot while blocking all of his teammates
It’s really mental when it came to that series. There was some family drama so obviously his mind wasn’t where it was supposed to be and some of his teammates didn’t even support him. Ry hope he bounces back from this back injury. He’s still very talented.
Why do they have to support him? His refusal to even try on offense cost them the series.
Tf are you talking about they were scoring like 40 pts off his assists.
@@TeeMiti-op4wc his refusal to take shots made it essentially 5 on 4 especially in the 4th quarter, plus it makes his passes less effective if they know he's not going to shoot.
Back issues as well
Hope he gets bought out this coming year and goes to Minnesota or maybe Miami.
Sometimes, I'm really curious behind the scenes on how patient the Nets' front office is on keeping Ben Simmons and paying him THAT much of his salary despite obviously not being worth what he is being paid for.
Yoooo the writing on the wall for A MINUTE before they could put this up 😂😂
The Kardashian Curse is Real he is a perfect example
Ben Simmons was one of my favorite players. I don’t think there is a more versatile yet effective defender in nba history. He could literally gurad 1-5 better than anyone else
Key word is could - he is a hasbeen now
I had his jersey, threw it away after he started throwing tantrums at the summer camp.
Draymond, Rodman.
Ya"ll stuck looking at the product, I'm looking at the net profit. He's the most efficient businessman out there.
Thank god they have Clayton on this
well done ,watched all the games did not realize that he attempted no field goals in the 4th quarter. The pass in the scrimmage at 7:05 is sad
You have to give it to the guy. He had to play thru all those years without a spine. It's no wonder he would have so much back pain.
Ben messed up leaving Philly. Maxey is the exact guard he needed next to him, what Fultz was supposed to be.
Ben is the microcosm of the new generation. Entitled, lazy and only envisioning the finish line instead of embracing the process to get there
Narr. The bloke is being out worked by a league that's mostly around the same age or younger than him.
he is set up for the next 40 years. Hopefully he has a smart finance manager and lives off the rent/dividends/interest income.
It’s simple. He got comfortable. End of story.
There's been a lot of falls from grace in the NBA but I can't remember one so steep and so fast.
Im so glad that Bleacher Report hired Duncan Robinson to narrate their videos
Is that Clayton Crowley?
wait this is bleacher report lol ty
Even B/R give this man summary
I don’t need him shooting jumpers but mans layup package looks so weird like he overthinks & complicates things … something shook him that hawks series and never looked aggressive since
No way bleacher report makes this kind of content 😂😂
The big difference between Rose and Walton is that they want to contribute. They want to make the most of their NBA career in any fashion. How much does Simmons want to? He has the tools to be an interior scorer. But does he care enough to improve his free throw shooting?
I thought this was a fake channel but its actually BR holy shit 😂😂😂😂
Pretty fair analysis of Simmons I'd say as a Sixers fan. We'll never 100% why exactly he failed but it's not just 1 reason.
💯
It’s all in his head.
He failed bc he has the same game as he did in college(when he couldn't lead his team to a field of 64),never developed and teams figured him out. If he's not pushing and dishing,he's ineffective, hence all his struggles in the playoffs (even b4 the Hawks series). You add in the fact that he's scared to fail, you see why he's tentative on the offensive end, which is a huge hinderance for a team who's playing him at starting point and having him as your 2nd best player
@@bandito241yeah nothing to do with his absolutely fucked back and excessive injuries to the disk
The last voice I expected to hear in a Bleacher Report video was Clayton Crowley. If they keep him around, they’re actually going to get a good rep lol
Ben can't even Simmon himself.
the fact that he got a max contract for not shooting makes me mad . i could have been 6,10 with no jumshot
Ben Simmons with Timberwolves when Mike Conley retire 👀
Part of me feels that even if Ben Simmons actually improved, because of his reputation, no one will take him seriously.
Giannis also struggled in the freethrow line before but his mindset is different. He wants to get better every game. He even practice freethrows and threes before and after the games.
Trey Young Rim Protector badge was on HOF 99 interior defense and 99 block.. Ben Simmons didn’t want to get his shit pack’d!
ben simmons got screwed when let jimmy butler go because he is a number 3 or 4th offesive option but forcing him offensive role he didnt belong in was his downfall beside his back injuries
The clear definition of wasted potential.
bruh, it’s because of you guys. Bleacher Report, Espn and other media outlets put all this pressure and build up on ben simmons when he was never really that good. You guys put him in that position knowing that he was never a shooter, In today’s nba if you can’t shoot it’s worthless.
Wanted the money and lifestyle and fame.. but not the work and the criticism. He is not him.
You got it all wrong what downfall? This guy is the Goat in the NBA earning millions playing 5 to 10 games a season. Has the best seat in the house watching games while earning. Gets busy shooting Workout videos for preseason. The Preseason Player of the Year
Holy crap. It's Clayton. That's where you been.
Poor Ben. It hurts being a nets fan 😢 can’t put him on the floor wit a non shooting big no space
Question is... who willl give him a contract after his lack of performance in recent years.
Anyone will. He still has the reputation of being an athletic forward. The better question is, for how long and how much. He’s not getting another big contract again, that’s for sure.
Bleacher report
The fact that he is still in a team roster is very surprising. Someone else deserves his spot.
You gotta blame doc on this too. Throwing him under the bus was just crazy.
Ben said fuck the titles its about the money. 😂
all he had to do was change shooting hands a little work on his end he’d still be a top 20 player
Ben blamed it on Doc Rivers. Ben's dad, Richard, disowned him
Imagine what could've been if he gave enough effort to figure out that he's not left handed...
Hey clayton
Giannis weakness is shooting, it never stops him from being great. Fultz went from being bust to a decent starter/rotational player.
How can you be runner up for DPOY but then not make any of the all nBA defensive teams during that same season.
Some of these awards make no sense.
Derrick Rose was always hurt too but he tried every single thing to get baCk and play hard. Simmons is a lazy douche who continues to con his way to a paycheck
Simmons can still redeem his career. He needs to go to a team with a proven strong culture -- OKC, Miami, Indy.
The difference between Doc and Joel when asked about Simmons. Doc stayed politically correct and Embiid threw him under the bus. Where is Embiid now? still finding excuses for never even making a conference final. Some MVP you are, brother.
Clayton?!?
Why are people acting like that passed up lay--up was the moment he became what he is now? Did you see the games prior,he was already non existent on the offensive end,he was terrified on that end of the floor. The playoff yrs prior, the same thing. The bigger the games, the smaller he played. If you truly look at him objectively, college should of been a big clue about his make-up. In the NCAA, one spectacular player can lead you to a tournament of 64,and exceptional player can carry you deep in the tournament. Ben Simmons couldn't get his team in a field of 64,dont know many #1 pics who couldn't do that. Since entering the NBA,his game is exactly the same from his lone, lackluster season. People fell in love with his height and his ability to run and dish in transition,he was like the pretty girl, they only focused on the surface level stuff. But like the pretty girl, when it was time to reveal more about herself other than her looks, there wasn't much there.once teams figured Simmons out, keep him in a half court set,he'll be ineffective(especially in playoffs when the lights are the brightest)
Money is the reason it would make NBA Players , lose motivation and improve.
i imagine there will be some serious changes to the cba. Ben Simmons will fuck up the bag for the rest of the players.
Making free throws is a basic fundamental skill of a basketball player, be it at pro or amateur level.
I just can't understand why someone who totally sucks at taking free throws can be selected number 1 at an NBA Draft.
I don’t think I ever seen a starting point guard that can’t shoot free throws. His free throw percentage makes him a liability. I think Shaq has a better ft percentage.
The same company that’ll post a Ben Simmons summer practice highlight saying 🔥🔥🔥 Ben Comeback season😈😈
literally forgot about this dude until just now lmao
Never seen a fall off like this in NBA history
It seemed like he was a superstar all defensive player yesterday. 2019 wasn’t that long ago
What the hell, the basic art of basketball is to shoot the ball. Ben Simmons can't even fake it, sucess in athletis can be so fleeting.
Clayton!
There are so many videos about his downfall
Yeah. It's kinda sad tbh. I honestly hope he comes back. Nobody likes to see wasted potential.
I want him to get better but his back issues seem too serious.
The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not belong in the same sentence. Simmons is STILL the only player from the 2016 draft class with at least one All-Star, one All-NBA, AND one All-Defensive selection. Considering how much time he's missed, that's impressive AF.
his early achievements says something about his TALENT.
his early bust status says something about his WORK ETHICS & DRIVE.
current Dante Exum(who had early injuries, lesser talent, and have bust status) looks and play better than the current Ben Simmons
@@august6281 Did you not read my first sentence? The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not mix. Once you become a perennial star in the NBA, you can't become a "bust" later down the road. It only works in one direction.
Can you have a sudden downfall? Absolutely. But that doesn't inquire "bust" status. Did Ralph Sampson become a draft bust because of his sudden downfall and lack of a comeback? Nope.
No matter what happens with Simmons for the rest of his career, he cannot logically be labeled a "draft bust." He accomplished too much to start his career off.
And still hasn't improved since 2020.
@@guesswhonot1620 first of all Ralph Sampson doesn’t work because he got injured after the finals run in 1986, but second and more importantly the simple definition of a bust is someone who falls WELL short of their draft expectations without having any reason (injuries, mental health etc)
Take LeBron, we know the career he’s bad but let’s say he didn’t. Let’s say after 2006 (which was his third year in the league) he fell off a cliff. By that point he had 2 AS games 2 All-NBA selections and 2nd in MVP voting. If those accomplishments didn’t increase for the rest of his career then he’d be a bust. Why? Becsuse the expectation that was placed upon him throughout high school was that he was going to be the next GOAT level player and the next all-time great, but he didn’t even come close.
(Obviously this is just a hypothetical though)
@@melanatedgod5337 Ralph Sampson peaked as a rookie and still make the Basketball Hall of Fame. So you can't label him a "bust."
