I don't believe Simmons originally had a clinically significant back injury. I think his back pain was psychosomatic. With that said, once he had back surgery, everything goes out the window. He likely has legit back problems at this point.
No sympathy for this man. You're making hundred's of millions, you have to expect scrutiny with that kind of money. No different to how literally any other job works. The highest paid workers will always have their performance scrutinized to ensure they are meeting the demands expected with such a high salary.
Making free throws is a basic fundamental skill of a basketball player, be it at pro or amateur level. I just can't understand why someone who totally sucks at taking free throws can be selected number 1 at an NBA Draft.
I don’t think I ever seen a starting point guard that can’t shoot free throws. His free throw percentage makes him a liability. I think Shaq has a better ft percentage.
I believe Ben Simmons is lying to everyone I believe he has a jump shot I don’t believe his back ever hurt.. he got payed and is waiting till this year to showcase his talent he is literally 27 he’s about to all out which is why the nets let everyone go
DUDE WAS NEVER!! A generational talent!!! The scouts got that wrong at BEST HE WAS A RONDO !! Very limited offensively but can PASS THE BALL at an Elite level
Giannis also struggled in the freethrow line before but his mindset is different. He wants to get better every game. He even practice freethrows and threes before and after the games.
Glad you pointed out the red flag of his performance at LSU. Outside of Simmons, that team didn't have any NBA-level talent, but to have a "generational player" only to go 19-14, finish 5th in the SEC, and miss the NCAA tournament entirely doesn't make a lot of sense. The team was a little better the season before he got there, and made the tournament. Having watched some of that season, I saw Simmons as uninterested and he sulked a lot. While he was clearly the best player on the team he didn't have the sort of impact you'd expect of a generational talent playing against college players. I get that at some point he was just playing out a season for a bad team so he could go to the NBA, but you still expect more from someone who had tons of hype before he got there and after he left.
The difference between Doc and Joel when asked about Simmons. Doc stayed politically correct and Embiid threw him under the bus. Where is Embiid now? still finding excuses for never even making a conference final. Some MVP you are, brother.
The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not belong in the same sentence. Simmons is STILL the only player from the 2016 draft class with at least one All-Star, one All-NBA, AND one All-Defensive selection. Considering how much time he's missed, that's impressive AF.
his early achievements says something about his TALENT. his early bust status says something about his WORK ETHICS & DRIVE. current Dante Exum(who had early injuries, lesser talent, and have bust status) looks and play better than the current Ben Simmons
@@august6281 Did you not read my first sentence? The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not mix. Once you become a perennial star in the NBA, you can't become a "bust" later down the road. It only works in one direction. Can you have a sudden downfall? Absolutely. But that doesn't inquire "bust" status. Did Ralph Sampson become a draft bust because of his sudden downfall and lack of a comeback? Nope. No matter what happens with Simmons for the rest of his career, he cannot logically be labeled a "draft bust." He accomplished too much to start his career off.
@@guesswhonot1620 first of all Ralph Sampson doesn’t work because he got injured after the finals run in 1986, but second and more importantly the simple definition of a bust is someone who falls WELL short of their draft expectations without having any reason (injuries, mental health etc) Take LeBron, we know the career he’s bad but let’s say he didn’t. Let’s say after 2006 (which was his third year in the league) he fell off a cliff. By that point he had 2 AS games 2 All-NBA selections and 2nd in MVP voting. If those accomplishments didn’t increase for the rest of his career then he’d be a bust. Why? Becsuse the expectation that was placed upon him throughout high school was that he was going to be the next GOAT level player and the next all-time great, but he didn’t even come close. (Obviously this is just a hypothetical though)
You got it all wrong what downfall? This guy is the Goat in the NBA earning millions playing 5 to 10 games a season. Has the best seat in the house watching games while earning. Gets busy shooting Workout videos for preseason. The Preseason Player of the Year
Unfortunate as hell, yes he’s a poor free throw shooter, and jump shooter…but the fact that nobody blamed Embiid who’s supposed to be the best player on that team, Tobias Harris who got paid 160 mill to average 10 points in those 2021 playoffs…I’m still holding out hope for him.

bruh, it’s because of you guys. Bleacher Report, Espn and other media outlets put all this pressure and build up on ben simmons when he was never really that good. You guys put him in that position knowing that he was never a shooter, In today’s nba if you can’t shoot it’s worthless.
I don't believe Simmons originally had a clinically significant back injury. I think his back pain was psychosomatic. With that said, once he had back surgery, everything goes out the window. He likely has legit back problems at this point.
Thank god they have Clayton on this
has bleacher report ever made this type of video for anybody? the dr is crazy
😂 Championship roster the Sixers still can't get passed the second round.
Yoooo the writing on the wall for A MINUTE before they could put this up 😂😂
No sympathy for this man. You're making hundred's of millions, you have to expect scrutiny with that kind of money. No different to how literally any other job works. The highest paid workers will always have their performance scrutinized to ensure they are meeting the demands expected with such a high salary.
the guy was never a star. people were just dumb and overhyped him
You’ve never seen his early games before his downfall. He was supposed to be the next lebron.
well done ,watched all the games did not realize that he attempted no field goals in the 4th quarter. The pass in the scrimmage at 7:05 is sad
he is set up for the next 40 years. Hopefully he has a smart finance manager and lives off the rent/dividends/interest income.
Why do you care ?
Making free throws is a basic fundamental skill of a basketball player, be it at pro or amateur level.
I just can't understand why someone who totally sucks at taking free throws can be selected number 1 at an NBA Draft.
I don’t think I ever seen a starting point guard that can’t shoot free throws. His free throw percentage makes him a liability. I think Shaq has a better ft percentage.
Hope he gets bought out this coming year and goes to Minnesota or maybe Miami.
At the 1:47 mark that's an error, The 2017-2018 Philadelphia 76ers have a 52-30 record, not a 56-26 record.
How can you be runner up for DPOY but then not make any of the all nBA defensive teams during that same season.
Some of these awards make no sense.
The fact that he is still in a team roster is very surprising. Someone else deserves his spot.
Remember when people thought he was gonna be the next LeBron? lol
They was comparing the man to Magic
He did and surpassed him: He took whining and complaining to new extremes
When he was drafted by the Sixers I remember hearing Dr J’s name getting thrown in those comparisons, crazy times.
His rookie year it looked like he was on pace.
Even B/R give this man summary
The fines didn't madder he got the money anyway!! U shoulda mentioned that smh
Part of me feels that even if Ben Simmons actually improved, because of his reputation, no one will take him seriously.
There's been a lot of falls from grace in the NBA but I can't remember one so steep and so fast.
Wanted the money and lifestyle and fame.. but not the work and the criticism. He is not him.
The Kardashian curse still running strong
Just stopped being on teams by awkwardly refusing to practice
You gotta blame doc on this too. Throwing him under the bus was just crazy.
And still hasn't improved since 2020.
@@guesswhonot1620 first of all Ralph Sampson doesn’t work because he got injured after the finals run in 1986, but second and more importantly the simple definition of a bust is someone who falls WELL short of their draft expectations without having any reason (injuries, mental health etc)
Take LeBron, we know the career he’s bad but let’s say he didn’t.
@@melanatedgod5337 Ralph Sampson peaked as a rookie and still make the Basketball Hall of Fame. So you can't label him a "bust."
Man, I never seen a career of a 6’11” forward be destroyed by the blocking skills of the blocking skills of a 5’11” point guard and coach Rivers. This is ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. 😂😂😂
The last voice I expected to hear in a Bleacher Report video was Clayton Crowley. If they keep him around, they’re actually going to get a good rep lol
