…the first time we played this song live, we did so unrehearsed at a little festival in the midwest. I could tell the audience knew the song meant something to me, but it’s taken me until now to consider talking about it in a 1:1 way.
we’ve decided to make it a single, though, last-minute, and to the chagrin of some of our counsel who insist there are much poppier songs to highlight-all this considered, press asked me for a statement, which I’ve pasted below. I hope you can understand why it is cathartic to me to release in this way.
“Sometimes things are so bad you have to laugh.
I was once a closeted trans person in a motel where I was made to do things I didn’t want to. I remember staring at a roach on a lamp, its little antennae kind of waving, mundanely, like it were saying hello, or goodnight. In that moment, that cockroach was as good a friend to me as any-and isn’t that sweet? How something we usually consider to be so bad could also be so good?
I remember driving home in the dark and crying, and then feeling my crying turn into laughing, at the absurdity, at the carnival, the spectacle, of it all.
Somewhere between my strength and my self-pity, between the awful moments and the ones that make it all worth it, there is a version of this life that I love-a version of myself that I love. That complexity, the good, the bad, the sad, the nostalgia, the horror. Life! How wonderful indeed ◡̈”
anyways, once again, unrehearsed, we felt like playing it this morning, so I turned my phone on. hope you enjoy, chili slice

I'm sharing this one , to remind my friends and family to remember to laugh and enjoy as much of life as it allows! Your instrumental, and vocal performances were really emotionally powerful. Your timing always amazes, it's like you know just the right time to switch it up to bring out the power of a song. And the three of you do it so well together.
