We bought our grandson a S&W FPC 9 mm for his birthday and my first thought was "I want to consider getting one for my home defense weapon." I was happy to see you included carbines as a possible long gun home defense.
Thank you Mac, this vid was very informative and helpful to this 65 yr old female gunslinger 😊
I’m one of those that Carrie’s at home too. Every waking moment my edc is with me. Of course we’ve got the heavy artillery in the house too, but the edc is with me all the time. Watering the plants on the porch, the deck, the yard, the woods, even while in the pool it’s within reach.
Always love the advice and great explanations with the videos you and two produce. Totally agree on sticking to one platform for pistols if at all possible. I'm a big dude like you and the HK guns just feel right in my huge mitts. Started with a VP9 but I wanted a DA/SA for ccw, so recently picked up the P30SK for carry and the VP9 is my home defense. Aside from the DA, both have a similar trigger, takedown, ergonimics, Euro paddle mag release and the mags are interchangeable. Keep producing the great content! - Your neighbor down 495 in Norton
When Mac speaks, gun enthusiasts listen!
I've heard you comment before about a handgun being a transitional weapon while you're getting to your long gun. I took that to heart the first time I heard you say it, and have taken that approach myself since. My carry gun is a subcompact 9mm, and at night it sits on my nightstand. But just on the other side of the nightstand I have a gun cabinet with a rifle loaded with self-defense rounds.
BTW, I too love revolvers. I don't use them anymore for EDC when I'm out and about, but at home the semi-auto pistol generally goes to the nightstand and I wear a revolver on my hip around the house and out on my property.
Thanks, Mac. Very good stuff.
Good protocol.
Love it when Mac comes on! Stav, please do a video making your mom's Schnitzel and Pastitsio. Even better would be a video with you and your mom cooking!
YES! And yes, would LOVE a pastitsio video :-)
A result of watching She videos for me is I found a place to try the SW Bodyguard 2.0 and then ordered one to replace my original bodyguard.380. I just picked it up 3hrs ago. Thanks for the comparison video you both did, it enticed me to find a way to test shoot the BG2.
As a home defense tool I have a Mossberg 590 Persuader 20ga.. With only 20 feet between any doorways in my home I am confident it is adequate. Thanks Mac for this bonus information video, thanks Stav for sharing Mac to us. Stay vigilant
I just bought the Taurus 327 TORO. I really like it. It’s probably going to become my everything gun. 32 H&R seems to be the happy point. Powerful enough, doesn’t sound like a flashbang going off, doesn’t over penetrate.
Hey There Bobby. Your Cousin John here. Long time no see. Hope you and Stav are well and we are able to get together some time soon. You guys are always welcome out in CA. Would love to have you come stay with us.
My philosophy on home protection and defensive use of firearms in general is that a pistol is what you use when you don't have your rifle. I have an AR rigged for home defense and should a situation arise, that would be my go to. I carry all the time, but like you largely not at home. I use red dots now on all my firearms that I use for self defense. I agree that it is important to train for sights or dots and stay consistent. Miss you buddy. Stay well!
Hey John...Great to hear from you. I'm glad you're still involved in shooting sports. Sounds like you have everything all worked out for home defense. I hope you faired well with the fires. Bobby
I so appreciate all the information you both share
I really appreciate both of you and your channel as well as the interactive way you guys share information with us!
We really appreciate you watching and supporting the channel! 😊
Thanks for your input man! Nice stash too!
GREAT VIDEO TO EXPLAIN THE FINNER POINTS OF CONCEALED CARRY VS HOME DEFENSE.THANKS
I definitely have always believed this about having continuity between your different guns. My competition guns are PDPs, so that’s what I shoot the most by far. I also have other PDPs that are set up for my concealed carry and home defense. They all have a similar feel, similar trigger, grip angle, and optics. So I feel like there’s good skill carryover between guns. That’s especially important when I have optics so I want to be able to find the dot on my defensive guns just as easily as I do on my competition guns. The best thing to do is to pick a gun family (PDP, Glock, M&P) and just get a few different sizes of the same gun. By the way, Mac’s mustache is epic.
Thanks Mac!!! Great advice on all, I will never carry a 1911 just for the reason you explained!!!!! PS Love this gun website, Your Wife does a great job!!!.....
Good info. That Bodyguard 2.0 is on my grocery list. Carrying in the summer is more challenging and this looks like it would fit in light clothing.
Thanks Stav for lending us Mac and his expertise. Mac, I had kind of a flashback while watching. During training, the instructor jumped out from behind a barrier and said, "What are you going to use?" "You have so many choices." He made me think. While he attacked and stabbed me. Anyway, being familiar with and knowing what you're going to grab without thinking takes practice. That was 30 years ago. Thanks for the memory. Even if it was not completely on topic.
Hi Mac, I hope both you and Stav are doing well.
One of my firearm teachers was on the LA SWAT Team. I'm curious if you guys worked together.
My first pistol was a S&W Ez Shield with the two safeties like your 1911. I had such a hard time with it as a rookie. Many (embarrassing) learning opportunities for me. Now I can laugh about it and I will keep the gun as a reminder of overcoming and learning to manipulate that crazy thing! It's really not that bad.
I recently purchased the Sig Rose P365XL and she's my favorite CC so far! I love the sights, how she shoots, the gorgeous rose coloring, cleaning is very easy, magazine capacity, and smaller in size and weight than my EZ. I take both to the range, but I get what you're saying about having consistency. If your life or your family's life is on the line, you don't have time for hiccups.
I'm interested in test shooting the S&W Shield Plus Carry Comp. While at my local range, I looked at the Bodyguard (not for me) and a Glock 43X- which I'm still interested in shooting. Don't have any handling experience with Glock.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Much respect. I'm hoping to move into the rifle/AR classes by the end of the year. We'll see!
Really enjoy these videos by Mac. 👍
Thanks Mac, excellent video! The loudest shot I’ve experienced indoors is 125gr JHP in .357mag - my ears are still ringing decades later 🇺🇸🦅🥩
Very good presentation on the subject!
Personally I worry about using a rifle indoors. In my experience there’s a big problem with over penetration and it needs to be considered. Just throwing my 2 cents in, but it’s backed up by 27 years of LE experience .
Keep up the good work in educating and training! Atta Boy!!
Excellent information Mac, thank you.
I carry the Bodyguard 1.0 and I carry it ~20hrs a day, the only time I take it off is to bathe or sleep.
Outstanding! The battery of arms familiarity is not discussed enough. I recently acquired the S&W 380 & 9mm models you demo’d. Similarity was an important factor, among other improvements in newer generation. My dilemma is this… my go-to edc has always been air-weight 38spl , with larger steel version at home, however the higher capacity BG 2.0 / shield plus combo is compelling. Need more experience with SA pistols to feel confident in defensive situations. Time will tell. Looking forward to figuring it out. Thanks for sharing the content 👍👍✌️
Good lesson Mac. Simple & to the point.
I leave my electronic ear muffs(usually Howard Leight brand) hanging on or just above my house rifle. Assuming I have time to use them the shot might still hurt but hopefully I'll still be able to hear afterwards.
That's some great advice! Thank You! Blessings to you and your family! 🙏
I live in New York, I can only carry a 10 round mag, I thought your state was like mine lol but maybe because your a cop you have these higher capacity mags. Great video ❤
Great video. I needed to here this for sure. Thanks I carry a 9mm and use a shotgun at home. Nice to know Im not the only one.
I do not own a 357 revolver. Not only is that caliber intimidating for me, but I worry about damaging my hearing if I had to use it. I do love the versatility of beig able to use 38 ammo.
No one in my family was ever into firearms. My father collected cap lock Kentucky long rifles and shotguns but never shot any firearms. He did as a kid at the family cottage on the Susquehanna River and, of course, in WW2. I'm not sure why I ended up liking guns, but I'd love to have one of everything (if only my wife would let me!). Interesting video. Thanks!
And Mac you are an excellent instructor! I like your style- range officer 👮♂️! You are very knowledgeable and you have to be!
I've taken at least 10 different classes of his at MFS. I wish he was offering more.
I’m 69 years old and retired my wife is also retired! When I was in my high teens and into my late 30’s I did a lot of hunting, big game and small game! So my hunting weapons are now my home defense weapons! But you’re right about the same type of weapons for less confusion! I have a Remington rifle and Remington shotgun! 970,760 ! They are the same weapons just different calipers! One 12 gauge and a 30-06 ! Both pump action weapons, safeties are in the same place they work exactly the same way!
Great video. I want the KS7 or KSG for home. I have the Sig Rose 9mm for CC. Stav’s videos gave me the confidence to do this. Thank you.
I just came to your page looking for this exact information!! Thank you!
I know you have done a similar video previously but now I don’t have to scroll! Haha
Watching this video and going shopping!
Thank you for this video. My small setup is by my bed. I like to start out with my Rock Island Armory VR80 then move to my LWRC SMG 45 ACP or AR-15 whatever it is a situation calls for. Finally a 45 pistol & knife as backup last resort.
Great post! Always like Mac's delivery of information. Stay safe and vigilant 🙏🫡🗽🔫🇺🇲
.... Great info Mac ...
Good Job Mac! Great looking Stash!! 😮😮
Well said! I feel the same way.
Ladies and Gentlemen.
Buy in three's! Three .22's (concealable 22 pistol if your state allows), a target/plinking .22 between a 4 or 5 barrel, and a. 22 rifle.
Three 9mm's. One micro 9, med 9mm (this is optional if you choose one for a target/competition, duty gun), and maybe a 9mm carbine?
With more experience using handguns. You're definitely buying a 1911!
As to long guns. Shotguns are going to bump you. Practice, practice, practice, practice, and more practice!
Rifles, if legal, definitely an AR platform. The rifles chambered in 223/556 have extremely light, controllable recoil. If you're unable to buy one, try these; Ruger Mini-14, Ruger Ranch Gen2 bolt action, some type of bull-pup 556 rifle if legal in your state. Henry Rifle company just came out with a lever action rifle that takes AR magazines.
Here's another option for you.
A 6 shot .38/.357 medium-sized revolver for starters. If you have larger hands. S&W 686 or a Ruger GP-100.
Consider a .357 lever action rifle to pair up with the revolver. As time and experience go on. Look into a J-frame size revolver for concealment. However, with this size of revolver. One must practice diligently. They're not hard to shoot. They shoot hard! Practice, practice, and more practice!
One big note Mac said on the video. They both love the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 .380. That's another great option for deep concealment!
Having a pistol for your protection is a personal choice with a deep commitment to self-control and discipline! Having a gun is to get yourself out of trouble, not in trouble!
Now, back to our hostess and host. Thank you! Have a good night, everyone!!
Great video sir! Very informative
wow, great vid. super practical stuff that your experience with firearm training/coaching and law enforcement hammers home. "ego" doesn't matter when the sh*t happens. but gun love matters, too, go wheel guns.👏
excellent video ty sir!
Great content thanks Mac
For home defense it’s either a 12 gauge bullpup with alternating rounds of slug and 00 buckshot, or it’s the 300BO SBR with hollow points - just depends on where I am in the house.
Unless you have a BIG house, at CQB distances the 00 and slug will pretty much make the same hole - but I like your thinking 😂😂. 300BO SBR with a low back-pressure can, that’s the way…
Great video. Very informative.
I carry all the time even when I’m at home and I switch off between my Glock 23 40 cal and SIG P 365 and I also use them for home defense
Thank you for excellent information!
Good information. Thx.
awesome info! thank you!
Excellent explanation. It might save a life!
Good information Mac. So your carry weapon is good in your home until you can get to your long gun. Got it!
thank you
Thanks for Sharing
I have the 10mm and 9mm both of them are springfield xdm 4.5 and i do concealed the 10mm and have the 9mm for home defense because it has a 21 rounds magazine.
Great informative video. Nice to see you Mac. This is off topic. How do you teach your sons about guns. What advice would you offer parents?
300. BLK supressed is the king of home defense.
30 rds. Great terminal ballistics.
Not so noisy.
I carry comfortably at home all day….Glock 48.
Good video!!
I’m a Glock and M&P guy when it comes to pistols. G43x or Shield Plus for concealed carry and a G45 and AR pistol for home defense
I was a Glock guy until I came across the Steyr M9A2
As a smaller person myself this 11-87 sounds interesting. What type of ammo would work best in it that has been consistent? Should it be cleaned before using it? I’m not finding too many recent videos about this gun. It seems to be picky about what ammo works best with it. Are there other smaller types of guns like these to compare to? Just starting to look at options. On a side note, any thoughts about a Byrna as a non-lethal option? Thanks!
I personally would not go near the bryna as a self-defense option. The Remington 11-87 youth model featured in this video has always worked great for us. Stav uses it for pheasant, Turkey and deer hunting trap and skeet shooting as well as home defense. We use #2 #3 or #4 buckshot as our home defense load. Mossberg makes some great youth model shotguns as well and stoeger does too.
Mac....
Great to see you Mac. Recently purchased a Beretta FS for home defense to compliment my S&W EZ for EDC. The two guns are similar and I’m hoping the difference can be compensated for by training, and last go to gun is a 12 gauge Ithaca 37 shotgun loaded with 1 shell of birdshot followed by 4 double 00 buck. What gun do you use on duty? I’m betting you’re using an automatic.
Very good video.
Thanks, Mac.... appreciate your (and Stav's) time & expertise!! ✝️❤❤✝️
My OG CC was the S & W model 915....(yes, dating myself with that one!), but I love it and shoot it very well.
Over the years, I decided I didn't want to carry that much weight around all day every day....
Have transitioned to a micro .380 as my EDC...
Still have other larger frame semi's for home defense, but favorite HD is my 870 Wingmaster with 18" barrel, and a new favorite, my S&W M&P 9mm FPC..just over 5# and comes with (2) 23 round and (1) 17 round magazines
..VERY COOL!!🥰
Safe travels, friends ❤❤

Great video and advice. Thanks Mac! What 20 gauge loads do you use for defensive purposes in those shotguns?
#2 #3 or #4 buckshot....mac
I give the vid., a 9 out of 10. You lost 1 point because, as we all know, pistols should be Glocks and shotguns should be Berettas. Nice work. P.S. I find green lasers very useful on all my home defense firearms.
Such great information! Thank you! I missed the name of the model of Smith & Wesson that Mac suggested for home defense if you carry a Shield. Can you repeat that, please and thank you! :)
I think you're asking me about the shield plus carry comp....Mac
Mr. Mac, another excellent video, all sage advice, as one would expect from someone of your experience!
Have to ask, what's with the Joseph Stalin 'stache? (Lol) Blsgs to Miss Stav and you and your families, gg🙏🙏✝️🙏❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋☝️☝️☝️
We do a no shave November and no shave December at work so we can all grow beards, then in January we are no longer allowed to have beards but we are allowed to have mustaches. So to salute that silly policy a bunch of us grow mustaches. It's funny on shift when we all show up on a call with staches....Mac
@bobmacquarrie That's great Mr. Mac! Sounds like a fun tradition! Appreciate all FRs and LEOs!! Thanks for responding.
BTW, catching up on some of the older videos from Miss Stav and yourself, really good stuff! Blsgs, gg 🙏🙏✝️✝️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋☝️☝️☝️
I like Ruger's LC Carbine in .45 ACP for home defense. It's a subsonic round so it's not going through 3 walls and shooting your neighbor. Being a rifle it has less recoil and greater accuracy.
A stabilizer kit wrapped around the carry gun would offer increased points of contact, accuracy, control, and mounting options for light and laser and dot, nearly 2 for 1 features wise
@@eriknelson2559 I did add an HK muzzle brake on it to lower recoil to better reacquire targets.
In my apartment, I have an 870 12 gauge, and an AR in 5.56.
I keep a Mossberg pump in the bedroom but my 9mil is on me all the time.
I am 68 years old and I cannot focus on the gun sights due to needing reading glasses. I have been converting to guns that accept red dots. I can simply place the red dot over whatever I am aiming at and can hit it. You and Stav never talk about red dots. Can you give us the pros and cons of using guns with red dots? Your comments would be appreciated.
Red dots are great and once you train your eye to pick them up you can probably be just as fast with a red dot as you can with iron sights. That transition might take a little while to get that fast but I think it can be achieved. The biggest problem would be when the Red Dot fails whether it be a battery problem or it gets hit or something bad happens. Other than that they're pretty cool.
Mac
.. 70 yr old here ,, also use reading glasses (for close small printing) a red dot might help (some come magnified) but with standard sights get a hi vis night sight on the front ,, many today come with a night sight from factory ,, I prefer XS Big dots ,, and only focus on the front sight ,, mid section ... if needed ,, a shot high or low won't matter (within reason , of course) ,, it's not target shooting , you don't have to hit a bullseye ....... and practice "Point shooting" ,, in a home scenario your probably 10-30 ft distance .... even with limited sight , and a little practice ,, two handed ,, one handed and even from the hip (cowboy gunfighter style) ,, most people can hit "close enough" to stop an attacker/intruder .. without taking the time to "aim"... which may be too much time if the intruder is armed ... Same with a shotgun ,, shoot tucked to body side , from the hip ,, you may not have the room or time to shoulder a long gun ..
........ Adding point shooting to your practice not only increases your skills ,, it's fun .. and a skill we all hope to never need .... Stay Safe ...
Well Said and Articulated Mac... (Hello to Stav ';-) )
Hi, I know you guys are in Massachusetts. I am too. I was trying to find the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 in Mass but I thought they weren't compliant yet in this state? Are they available? How did you get one? Thanks
Very good video. I live in a free state so my owning a m&p 45 with 11 rnd mag, equalizer with the 10,13 and 15 rnd mags isn’t a problem. Can a citizen in the communist state of Massachusetts own these without being a law enforcement officer?
I have guns staged in different areas of my house. What I go for depends on where I'm at when an intruder breaks in.
Correction 870 .
Excellent job! Thanks for hijacking her channel.
20 ga is powerful home defense w #4 buck shot.
You're in Massachusetts, how do you carry 15 round mags? Serious question.
Police officers are generally exempted from restrictive firearms laws. FWIW.
@ .. not their wives
Is Stav old carry gun a shield plus or regular shield? I seen it was 10rds
Shield plus most recently. She carried a normal shield years ago too. Mac
Mac , what is your duty gun ?
M&P 2.0 4.07" 9mm
Actually she can't have a high capacity mag in Mass, unless her copper husband is breaking the law!
Except for the shower and prohibited places... All day, every day.
One gun (type) one holster, all the time
- John Bianchi
I am curious about the flashlight mount for the shotgun
I've been looking for something like that but apparently I suck at web searches 😂
Also if I recall correctly the one malfunction you had with The Bodyguard was while using flat nose FMJ
Is it cycling that reliably now? Or did you just quit using that in that particular firearm?
ph 6:11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
That stash has to go.. I don't know why some are going for the 70's look🥸
Any concerns about the sig p320?
Dozens of court cases are pending nationwide involving allegations that the P320 fired without an intentional trigger pull.
The Marble Falls Police Department in Texas abandoned the P320 as a duty weapon after two shootings involving the gun.
.. Might want to follow their lead ,, problems you don't want .... There are plenty of great firearms out there today ,, it's a hard choice if you can only have one ...
