A got a series of texts from him complaining that my son would not wear a mask. My 10 year old told this old atheist that viruses are so small that they can easily pass through the weave of a mask. The relative didn't like this because he believes in "the science" and "the science" says wear a mask or people will die. He darkly hinted that if he or his wife became ill, he wouldn't blame the child, he would blame the science-denying parents. As i mentioned, this was about a month ago. Neither he nor his wife died of a common cold. I don't even think they caught a cold. (Surely they would have complained about it to us.) Out of nowhere, his recent text ranted about how my religion, politics, and, yes, lack of mask wearing are bad and lead to unhappiness. But his atheism, politics, and mask wearing make him happy. He didn't use the word "joy," but given his slavish devotion to democratic party propaganda, I couldn't help but connect this new tactic of his with the new propaganda.

For the past two decades at least Hollywood has put out tripe portraying men as violent drunkards and domestic abusers, sexual predators, unrepentant lotharios, narcissistic arrogant jerks, or controlling and domineering tyrants. My coworker and I got on this very subject about a Christian nation and I said, “Do you think we’re modernizing the constitution too much? Like, freedom of “Religion” was solely written with the idea of any Christian dogma and nothing else?” We both came to the conclusion, yes, we are. To expect any large scale moves from the Right, applied to political ends, is pretty much a lost cause. We are lucky if we can even get an honest & educated person to run for any office. But if even if they do, there will be something about them, that half of our party just cannot bring themselves to vote for. With Mit Romney, it was "but he's a Mormon" which all of evangelical Christianity could not bring themselves to vote for. With Trump, it's "but...he said pussy in a private conversation18 f-ing years ago". Do you see what a pathetic party we are, doomed to fail at anything that requires much of a consensus?
A youtube-like platform would require too much cooperation, investment, and the interest and dedication of too many people, and our side just doesn't have that.

About a month ago, my son was visiting with him and complained of having a cold. (He had a minor case of the sniffles. No runny nose. No sneezing. My son was fine.) A got a series of texts from him complaining that my son would not wear a mask. My 10 year old told this old atheist that viruses are so small that they can easily pass through the weave of a mask. The relative didn't like this because he believes in "the science" and "the science" says wear a mask or people will die. He darkly hinted that if he or his wife became ill, he wouldn't blame the child, he would blame the science-denying parents. As i mentioned, this was about a month ago. Neither he nor his wife died of a common cold. I don't even think they caught a cold. (Surely they would have complained about it to us.)
Out of nowhere, his recent text ranted about how my religion, politics, and, yes, lack of mask wearing are bad and lead to unhappiness. But his atheism, politics, and mask wearing make him happy. He didn't use the word "joy," but given his slavish devotion to democratic party propaganda, I couldn't help but connect this new tactic of his with the new propaganda.

It’s the same way in media. For the past two decades at least Hollywood has put out tripe portraying men as violent drunkards and domestic abusers, sexual predators, unrepentant lotharios, narcissistic arrogant jerks, or controlling and domineering tyrants. This occurred at the same time that feminism overtook Hollywood. Or, if they don’t portray men as villains, they portray them as sniveling cowards or fools who need women to rescue them. The movies show some random guy walking by on the street slapping a woman on the behind and that just never ever happens. I have never seen a man in my life intentionally slap a random woman walking by on the behind. And yet if any of this behavior is reversed, in cinema or real life, it is just a big joke or no big deal. A woman can punch a man in the face in a sitcom and immediately it is followed by the laugh track. If a man reports abuse by his wife, the police will ignore it or disbelieve it. If a woman grabs a man’s behind or crotch, it can’t possibly be sexual harassment because apparently men don’t care about that or ever have a problem with it.

As an Australian I watch the RNC, I was touched and it seemed to represent to me the America I grew up seeing, faith, love of country and respect for the flag.
