    flew with the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation last year in Charlotte. My GF and I got the right door-gunner's seat. It brought back so many memories.. Much of the time I had tears in my eyes. My apologies to the crew chief for hopping out as soon as the skids hit the ground.. It was a pavlovian reflex. I am not used to the birds actually landing in the LZ! Lord, it is good to hear that sound again! Retired Marine grunt

    what a great video. I was a mechanic /crew chief from 1977 to 1980. watching this bring back emotions and excitement from that time. what a rush!

    I am retired Army and was a 67N Mos(Single Engine Rotor Turbine) basically a Crew Chief on a Huey. Will never forget the sound of those Huey rotor blades. A wonderful, life-saving sound in Nam. Served in the 145th Combat Aviation Bn 67 & 68.

      Yep. The sound is amazing. Have served the soviet army on the boarder with West Germany in 1980-x.

      And do you know what makes most of the poping sound, it's the tail rotor.

    • @leerilea1709
      @leerilea1709 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      remowil55 no sir. The tail rotor buzzes. The whop whop is the main rotor.

    • @ThomasDimond173abn

      @@leerilea1709 , Correct, actually, it's the tips of the main rotor , breaking the sound barrrier.

    • @leerilea1709
      @leerilea1709 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Dimond didn't know that. I thought it was from the wide cord of the blades.

    Awesome bird and great crew, the one crew member kept talking with the child on the flight and I am sure this experience will be something he remembers for a lifetime.

    Was a Crew Chief on several of them. Was in charge of the entire Huey squad at the 507th Trans company at FT Campbell in the late 70's. Went to Korea. Guess what, My babies (Heuys) were there. Then shit went down hill. This was about 1981'ish.. I so much want one more ride. 61 years old now, any one know where I can take that "one last ride?".

    My cousin was a "Dust-Off" Huey pilot in Nam in 1965-65 but was killed in a crash of November 1969 on his last tour. Sorely missed!!!! But he was a hero in Dust-Off and one a few Black Dust-Off pilots and A/Cs in Vietnam. Miss you Capt. Robert Lee Cottman.....

    Would've liked to see the faces of the people sitting in the gun wells during the tight turns. ;)

    Amazing they have no idea what they are boarding on. The Huey is a magical helicopter. In fact it’s to helicopters what Harley is to motorcycle

    it saddens me in a way that everytime i see a video of people goig for a joy ride in a huey i dont think they truly realize what they are encompassed in.... this helicopter has flown troops into battle, picked up wounded, and was a lifeline for many soldiers during vietnam.... for me it would not be a joy ride.... it would be almost silent.... thinking about the men that made many rides like this into battle.... and many that didnt make the ride back.... my heart will forever go out to the men that fought in vietnam and the valour they deserve....

      Probably not but the ride $$$ goes toward keeping Army Aviation Heritage Foundation alive. They're a living museum that's dedicated to educating the public about Army aviation. Great crew too, those guys are Vietnam and Desert Storm vets, outstanding people. It's a pretty good win for everyone. Don't be saddened! Great video!!!

    This brings back memories . . . my being with Detachment 7, 37th Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron . . . Minot AFB, ND. Sans the aerobatics, of course ! Been 30+ years now. We had the UH1-F & the HH-1H while I was there. 🇺🇸
