oh wow Jordan! This is great. Love this movie and always wondered where exactly in Colorado it was filmed. I remember watching this in the theater and the music and the big screen meadow scene was epic! I was 9 years old and I've never forgotten it.
Nice video. I was fortuanate enough to visit Ridgway when it still had dirt streets...looked more "western." Wow, they fixed up the Ross house. Five years ago, the porch awning was hanging on by one corner and the whole house looked very aged. Looks like they bleached/cleaned the whole house. (bit of trivia: that house was last lived-in in 1959, when the owners moved into town...both dead now). Up at Deb's meadow, you can tell they chopped down all that wetland meadow growth when they filmed. Have been to all the filming locations that were done in Colorado. My wife and I are going down there again to view the fall colors. Will only be doing Last Dollar Road and Owl Creek Pass, but will still get to see a few of the filming locations againg. Thanks for the video.
Posted about a year ago. Been to this area many times. Getting ready to head down to True Grit country again in two more weeks. My wife and I love the area. Last year we did the Last Dollar Road and and Owl Creek pass. We won't make those remote filming areas this time...I'm getting too damn old. During the scene at Deb's Meadow where the Duke did his thing, Glen Campbell and Mattie Ross were actually filmed at Camp Bird, about 15 miles away (as the crow flies). Yep, the stable where Mattie had her dealing with Stonehill is now a U.S. Post Office. The courthouse in Ouray is magnificent. Deb's Meadow was indeed, groomed (plants cut down) for the film. At the end of September/first of October, the colors look about right as they were in the film. Your video did the area/film justice. Thanks!
Fantastic video, Jordan! True Grit is one of my favorite movies and I absolutely love John Wayne! The meadow scene is such a great scene in the movie. It looks as beautiful now as when it was filmed over 50 years ago. Thanks again for the great memories!
This was great! This is our all time favorite John Wayne movie. I can't believe you found the meadow but so glad you did. Stunningly beautiful there. Thanks Jordan & Katie for a fun vlog.
This was great video I had so much fun watching and My father loves john Wayne and this movies of all time and Jordan and Katie I thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you Jordan and Katie. As I've mentioned on other posts, I have done/held a host of jobs and have traveled extensively in my sixty three years on terra firma. Yet, you consistently have me kicking myself in the butt and asking: "How in the hell did you miss that? You passed through there....lol Thanks for the wonderful vlogs and your willingness and time to give in depth background stories...Most travel vlogs are severely lacking in that department. It's clear they're thrown together as quickly as possible, with the hope of an easy payday. Mark K
Fascinating video! I think Katie is an excellent co video partner; because you are focused on great video; and can’t look about, as she can! 👏🏼👏🏼 Love how you show the movies from the past, when you are showing the location! Thanks! Safe travels!!!❤
Wow 🤩 !!! This was so cool to see. And the personal family video of Debbie & the kids there in Debbie’s Meadow, was so incredible to see. It was moving 😢❤ loved it so much
This is great! I saw True Grit as a kid. John Wayne is still one of my favorite actors so it is appropriate that he is Vloged by my favorite Vloger! We have visited Monument Valley and hope to make it here someday. Another great Vlog! Thanks!
Such a great video, Jordan. Im a huge John Wayne & Debbie Reynolds fan, so it was so nice to see the filming locations for True Grit & how beautiful Deb's Meadow is. The little film clip of Debbie in costume with her little kiddos was truely special...Thank You, Jordan & Thank You, Todd!!! Jordan & Katie, awesome video!!! 👍👍
I never saw the movie "True Grit" but this was a wonderful blog. Thanks for sharing it. I never watched a lot of Wayne movies but I did like Glen Campbell. My dad was a big John Wayne fan. Your vlogs are great Jordan!
Jordon, you out did yourself on this one! Incredible vlog! What a magical place Deb's meadow is. I believe those were wild horses' hoof prints! Loved True Grit! Actually saw it at the movie! How the West was Won was CINERAMA! The theaters had to have special screens and projectors to show it! My uncle was the manager of the Indiana Theater in Indy! The premiere was such a big deal! I have photos used for the newspapers from the event! Our Uncle took us on a tour of the equipment installed in the theater! The filming process was done to draw the viewer into the shot. Incredible shots of the mountains! I can still remember the bison stampeding over the railroads tracks! The shot made you feel like you were under the tracks! Debbie Reynolds was awesome in that movie! Incredible voice as always! She was such a trooper! John Wayne had an incredible body of work!!! What a treat it was to see all this! Thank you, again wonderful effort to follow the filming locations! Appreciate you and Katie so much!!!
John Wayne is my favorite actor of all time. My of current favorite is Robin Williams and his entire career I was blessed to have seen what a great actor and comedian he did everything very well which is unheard of today's actor's both actor's gave you everything they had as actor's and I love them ❤️ because of that.
Glad to see you made it to Colorado! I've lived here all my life. Would have been cool to meet you and shake your hand. I'm so glad to see that filming location hasn't been changed. Love that the rock is still there! Looking forward to your other vlogs from here!
This is so cool Jordan 😍 love Deb's meadow and the old family movies there 😊 ❤ True Grit is such a great movie. They just don't make movies like that anymore 😢 Another one of my favorite John Wayne movies is The Cowboys❤
That was surreal, glad to see that the meadow is still open and looks identical. I wonder if someone maintains it to keep the trees from taking over. Thanks for sharing!
Great job, Jordan! I did something similar to this a few years ago and since then have been to the ferry scene location and the dugout scene location. Still don't know where the rattlesnake scene was shot.
This is a great video Jordan. Beautiful scenery. When I left Southern California in 2008 I moved to South Carolina for five years. I am part Muscogee Creek Indian and I was going to an all tribe Native American Bible study at some peoples house and Jay Silverheels son Steve Silverhills was a chief and pastor at the time and he would come and lead the Bible study with his sweet wife every so often driving down from North Carolina. I don't even know if he's still alive I would have to research since he and his wife were getting up there in age back then in 2009-2010 when I was going to the Bible study. They were the nicest people. I have a picture of my twins with him back then it's a really nice picture in fact I think I might even have it on my phone. It was when the group put on a little powwow it was so much fun. My twins were in a movie called Andrew Jackson that was filmed between 2007 and 2008 and it came out on the history channel in 2009. And I remember seeing John Wayne when I was 12 years old in Westminster California when Ford and Carter were running against each other for the presidential election and my parents were for Ford and John Wayne was for Ford also. I found a stock picture of it online one time when I was researching it. I think I was about 12 I think it was in 1977 or so I had a blast that day I just remembered John Wayne was super tall and then after it was over with we went down the street and ate Chinese food before driving back home to Huntington Beach lol. And back then it was more peaceful when people were voting people could still be friends and be from different political parties
Jordan you guys should come North to montana and do some vlogs here, see Clint Eastwood thunder bolt and lightfoot or Yellowstone ranch .if you could afford it you could rent the bed and breakfast place at the ranch. Common Katie deserves it. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA.....
Hi, Jordan and Katie..., Excellent video and very informative, and thank you for sharing the video ! ! Excellent video... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana P.S.: I decided to view a few more of your videos and decided to "Subscribe" to your excellent channel... :)
I didn't know that Jay Silverheels was one of the prisoners to be hanged. What awesome trivia you share. Now I've got to watch it again🙂 I loved when John Wayne said in his Oscar speech " I should have worn the patch 35 years ago"! Thanks Jordan & Katie. Well done!👍
Very scary to me. Very narrow, with no guard rails, amd big fall offs for 45 min straight. If heights or nervous situations bother you while driving, you will have a hard time. I was getting panic attacks while driving it
I did this same thing in 2019 and went as far as the no trespassing sign after the big mansion and turned around. Wish I could have made it to the meadow. Sure is a beautiful area. Also went and saw the Dennis Weaver earth ship house
Stuff like this with JW is always a great idea! I came up with a Western Shoot Out character of JB Book's brother, DB or Daniel Banes Books. The vengeful brother type, like Max, went off the deep end.
Brilliant vlog. Thanks for another great adventure, Jordan and Katie!
I love how you visit so many cool and nostalgic locations and have a lot of background knowledge about it!
How great to see scenes from True Grit. One of my favorite movies. Thanks Katie and Jordan.
Thank you Jordan, for showing where John Wayne True Grit movie! I love John Wayne movies. He was a great actor!!!

Loved this trip down memory lane! Thank you Jordan and Katie ❤
Congratulations to both you and Katie for this wonderful vlog to see where a great movie was made Thanks
The scene in Deb's Meadow won The Duke the Oscar.
It's one of my fav all time scenes in cinema.. to say I was excited to see it was an understatement..
Wow. That sure was an incredible vlog, Mr. Jordan and Katie. Great Western movie history!

WOW! I aways thought that area looked familiar, I live a couple hours a way from Ridgeway
legendary john wayne
That was great, we were planning going there on our summer trip but I got sick. We will do it next year! How bad was the road to the meadow?
Very scary to me. Very narrow, with no guard rails, amd big fall offs for 45 min straight. If heights or nervous situations bother you while driving, you will have a hard time. I was getting panic attacks while driving it
@DazewithJordantheLion Maybe renting an ATV in Ridgeway is what I'll do. They aren't as wide. Sounds like you said, "white knucle". Same way back?
I did this same thing in 2019 and went as far as the no trespassing sign after the big mansion and turned around. Wish I could have made it to the meadow. Sure is a beautiful area. Also went and saw the Dennis Weaver earth ship house
