Really glad you reacted to this. This was around the era when Mariah unfortunately suffered a mental and emotional breakdown. It was obviously a very sad and lonely time for her and the lambily but she was so strong and pushed through it.
This was after her "breakdown".
I don't really think she had/has a breakdown due to what some people say. I think she was completely exhausted and with all the pression of Sony, the cancelled contract with Virgin, the recording of the soundtrack and the movie of Glitter with its issues, what Tommy made to harm her career, her lack of rest, everything made her explode. And after that, Glitter with its soundtrack and movie kind of flopped, being released in September 11th 2001.
Ok let me clear some facts up. Mariah gave up sleeping for 9 days until she collapsed, she was unaware sleep deprivation could kill her. Mariah switched gears after 9/11 u can see the twin towers thru her windows from the cribs episode. Mariah saw the aftermath. She went on several telethons to sing for pledges and this was the last one specifically for foster kids. She released several singles and donated the money to the kids and families of firefighters from the 9/11 attacks. Never Too Far, this medley, There For Me - they were all donated.

I just looove that you kept listening to her speech for a while at the end. I do respect your attitude towards Mariah 'cause a lot of people like to make fun of her. Thanks for your reaction. Never Too Far is a song written by Mariah and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to her soundtrack for the movie Glitter (2001). Hero was written by Mariah and Walter Afanaiseff (1993). Mariah did this short tour to promote this single that she put it out first to her Greatest Hits (2001), and participated into a lot of charity events.

It's weird to think that this is his first time ever hearing Hero - see as how big the song was back in the 90s. It's also weird because this is pretty much her "signature " song. Makes me feel old.

This is so weird, but when I was younger I'd listen to Mariah Carey sing her whistle notes and they'd just sound like amazingly high notes to me. Now that I'm older I hear she's actually pronouncing words in that register!!! WOW

In your first commentary, I believe the correct term for what you were trying to express is that Mariah never wavers in her pitch or key. Her resonance is astounding. Tone is the timbre in someone's voice meaning Mariah has a unique and rich tone where as Toni Braxton or Lalah Hathway have a dark contralto tone. Tone is unique; it's how people identify voices.

Mariah is famous for being able to change the texture of her whistle tone in order to exemplify the feeling she is trying to convey, but technically speaking her whistles in this performance are really weak and in this Glitter era they were always like this, however her belting in this performance was very smooth so in my opinion she did the whistles this way on purpose. This was a B side. Hero was released in the album Music Box in in 1993 and Never too far iwas released that year in 2001 part of the Glitter album then she recorded a medley
